Canada is a country in North America. Its ten provinces and three territories extend from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean, covering 9.98 million square kilometres (3.85 million square miles), making it the world's second-largest country by total area. Its southern and western border with the United States, stretching 8,891 kilometres (5,525 mi), is the world's longest bi-national land border. Canada's capital is Ottawa, and its three largest metropolitan areas are Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.
Indigenous peoples have continuously inhabited what is now Canada for thousands of years. Beginning in the 16th century, British and French expeditions explored and later settled along the Atlantic coast. As a consequence of various armed conflicts, France ceded nearly all of its colonies in North America in 1763. In 1867, with the union of three British North American colonies through Confederation, Canada was formed as a federal dominion of four provinces. This began an accretion of provinces and territories and a process of increasing autonomy from the United Kingdom. This widening autonomy was highlighted by the Statute of Westminster 1931 and culminated in the Canada Act 1982, which severed the vestiges of legal dependence on the British Parliament.
Canada is a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy in the Westminster tradition. The country's head of government is the prime minister—who holds office by virtue of their ability to command the confidence of the elected House of Commons—and is appointed by the governor general, representing the monarch, who serves as head of state. The country is a Commonwealth realm and is officially bilingual at the federal level. It ranks among the highest in international measurements of government transparency, civil liberties, quality of life, economic freedom, and education. It is one of the world's most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations, the product of large-scale immigration from many other countries. Canada's long relationship with the United States has had a significant impact on its economy and culture.
A highly developed country, Canada has the seventeenth-highest nominal per-capita income globally and the sixteenth-highest ranking in the Human Development Index. Its advanced economy is the tenth-largest in the world, relying chiefly upon its abundant natural resources and well-developed international trade networks. Canada is part of several major international and intergovernmental institutions or groupings including the United Nations, NATO, the G7, the Group of Ten, the G20, the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement, the Commonwealth of Nations, the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, and the Organization of American States.
I am a first year engineering student and was wondering what average GPA's are compared to other universities. I attend a university in Canada which uses a percent based system and the college of engineering sets the average first year at a low 60%.
Hey everyone, I'm a really confused undergrad willing to do anything it become a medical physicist in Canada.. But there are many questions I have in my head and I'm really hoping to get them answered! Thanks a lot in advance

Hi everyone,
I'm starting Co-op next winter and I'm looking for a job in Montreal. I'm not sure what kind of physics opportunities there are in the city. I know that Bombardier is in the area and that they may have jobs related to physics. There may also be opportunities at the universities...
My job search is going poorly and I am considering returning to school to do a Ph.D.. I have an M.Sc. in condensed matter (CM) physics and a B.Sc. with a focus on soft matter physics. I am hoping to enter industry in an R&D setting, but as I live in Canada my opportunities to do R&D in CM are...
I'm brand new to the forum, but have read all medphys treads I could find before signing up. I'm Canadian, with an MSc in medical physics from a CAMPEP accredited program, also residency and CCMP certification, plus more than five years experience in a large university hospital.

Hey guys, I really want to be an aerospace engineer but there isn't many jobs for aerospace engineering in Canada(unless I'm wrong)
so let's say i get an aerospace engineering degree can i use it to apply to other jobs?
Hey everyone,
This semester I felt like I would be overwhelmed with my courses so I ended up taking a "bird" course as one of the five courses... but ironically it is currently my lowest mark.
I am debating dropping it (last day to drop without penalty is in 2 days) but before I do that I...
Hey, I'm at McGill in 2nd year Joint Honours Mathematics and Physics. I want to apply for a research award (I haven't done so before) in either maths or (preferably) physics. I had a tough bunch of classes to start with and have a 3.14 out of 4.00 GPA. It looks like an NSERC USRA is out of sight...
im looking to become a theoretical physicist and i think i might want to do a program in mathematical physics for an undergrad. does anyone know which are best in Canada? i know the obvious ones, (i think) U of T, Waterloo, UBC, McGill, but can anyone be more specific please?
Hello,
I am looking into university applications and I am wondering where to go. I am in love with mathematics and the theoretical side of physics, and I am wondering about universities in Canada that would be a good choice for me. I am also in a pretty bad state finance wise (single mother...
My neighbor recently visited Northern Canada on a hunting trip. He took a great many photos. Upon review, I noticed they have very tall and skinny pine trees with very full tops. He described the soil as very thin, perhaps less than 12", and solid rock below.
Accordingly, I'm wondering if...
I just wanted to see what is the scope of medical physics in Canada. Program websites on university webpages write so rosy picture of jobs(one leading university website predicts atleast 30 new jobs per year inside Canada). I find that ridiculous because when I go to medphys.ca and other career...
Hello,
I am from Israel (English speaker, so don't take it in account) looking to study towards an undergrad degree in Canada.
Eventually my dream is to become a theoretical physicist. I am NOT looking for a so called "re-known" university. Don't understand me wrong, I am not a slacker looking...
Hi,
I just graduated from electrical engineering from University of Toronto. I am interested in Hardware and robotics mostly. Most of the courses I took are in Analog and digital hardware and a little bit of power. I was wondering about job perspective in Western Canada where the jobs have...
I’m a math undergrad at Caltech. I’m applying to grad school soon and since I’m a Canadian citizen I’ll be applying to grad school in Canada. I’ll also be applying to some top programs in the United States, but I’m very unsure of my chances.
The thing is, due to a combination of personal...

I was wondering if anybody knew about when I should hear back from PSI? I realize the chance someone will be able to give me an answer is small, as it is not stated on their site and the course is only about 3 years old so few people have experience with it, but I was thinking that it's not...

What is the difference between
Theoretical Physics under the department of applied mathematics
and
Physics under the department of physics
?
Thus, does UWO have a strong (theoretical) physics programme?
In terms of culture, politics etc...I think many Americans have this idea that Canada is some sort of Europeanized country but to me, it seems that Canada is much more similar to the U.S. Maybe Quebec is an exception but certainly no can argue that Alberta is like Europe! I live in Canada but...

A devastating night for Canadians. Especially since 1) the stadium was 90% composed of Canadians, and 2) the tickets were $500 each.

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone from Canada has ever ordered a (scientific, so that it fits the subforum ) book from abroad (US, UK), and if yes, how much were the handling and duty fees? All in all, what's the cost of all of that stuff on top of the price of the book and shipping...
Hello, everyone! I have a question here and I am really looking forward to hear your advices.
