Career counseling is a type of advice-giving and support provided by career counselors to their clients, to help the clients manage their journey through life, learning and work changes (career). This includes career exploration, making career choices, managing career changes, lifelong career development and dealing with other career-related issues. There is no agreed definition of career counseling worldwide, mainly due to conceptual, cultural and linguistic differences. However, the terminology of 'career counseling' typically denotes a professional intervention which is conducted either one-on-one or in a small group. Career counseling is related to other types of counseling (e.g. marriage or clinical counseling). What unites all types of professional counseling is the role of practitioners, who combine giving advice on their topic of expertise with counseling techniques that support clients in making complex decisions and facing difficult situations.

I really need some guidance on what to do with my life. I'm going to do my best to organize my thoughts into an understandable manner, but forgive me if it sounds like I'm merely venting, as I have a lot on my mind.
Basically I started out college in Mechanical Engineering, and after about a...
I am in the process of choosing the topic for my thesis. Originally I came from a more theoretical branch of physics but I realized that I do not see my future in university research, but more in the industry. I want to do research with more direct applications, but now I am not sure what my...

Hello everyone, I'm facing a bit of confusion. I am currently in high school, taking a college level Calculus class and a college level Algrebra-Based Physics class. I am not sure whether it's because of the class, or if it's because of the math itself, but i seem to enjoy Calculus much more...
Hello everyone,
Little back story, so when I began college as a freshman I thought I wanted to become a doctor. My sister already being in med school it seemed like a challenging and rewarding career which could ultimately make me a lot of money.

Hi everyone. I know there are some medical dosimetrists and physicists in this forum who have provided useful advice. I still have some questions, if you don't mind.
Basically, my background consists of a B.S. and M.Sc in physics with not so stellar grades (~3.0 GPA). I graduated almost 7...
I'm in my junior year of college of a major in physics, and I'm already considering my job oportunities. In a country like mine (i live in Colombia, by the way) is kind of hard to get a job as a researcher if you don't want to be a professor (my case) and the global landscape doesn't seem very...
Hello World!
I want to know if it's posible to do (this combo):

I am a senior in high school and currently deciding on what I want to do with the rest of my life as many others are. I have always enjoyed optics. I enjoy reading up on optical physics and up and coming optical technology (and of course playing with lasers). My question is would I enjoy optical...
I am emotional!
I am working as a software engineer for a Belgium steel company. Joining the industry as I see takes me far away from my area of expertise. Perhaps I am still unable to see it that much or it is likely that I am on the right track to take a leave of the current profession for a...

Right, I'm currently unsure of what career path I want to take.
I'm currently in undergrad math taking all the possible physics modules.
Here's the thing - I find doing experiments boring. I find doing pure math problems very boring. I'd probably find research pretty boring too.
However, I...
Hi All,
How do I begin with this long and complicated story? I am a forth year college student majoring in physics. I began college as an architecture student, made some life-altering realizations during first year that it is not truly progress at all, just a rehashing of shapes/art school...

I am extremely good in architecture and structural engineering and absolutely love them.
But, I heard you have to take a civil engineering course beforehand?
I'm kind of confused... Could anyone clear this up and help me select a path?
(I am currently in high school, taking AP classes in...
I just finished my REU in solid state physics and must say that it was a little disappointing. I did some theoretical, but mostly experimental work. Though the theory behind it sounded very interesting when I first heard about the project, it turned out that our progress went very slowly, much...
