Computer science is the study of algorithmic processes, computational machines and computation itself. As a discipline, computer science spans a range of topics from theoretical studies of algorithms, computation and information to the practical issues of implementing computational systems in hardware and software. Its fields can be divided into theoretical and practical disciplines. For example, the theory of computation concerns abstract models of computation and general classes of problems that can be solved using them, while computer graphics or computational geometry emphasize more specific applications. Algorithms and data structures have been called the heart of computer science. Programming language theory considers approaches to the description of computational processes, while computer programming involves the use of them to create complex systems. Computer architecture describes construction of computer components and computer-operated equipment. Artificial intelligence aims to synthesize goal-orientated processes such as problem-solving, decision-making, environmental adaptation, planning and learning found in humans and animals. A digital computer is capable of simulating various information processes. The fundamental concern of computer science is determining what can and cannot be automated. Computer scientists usually focus on academic research. The Turing Award is generally recognized as the highest distinction in computer sciences.
i put engineering as my primary choice for university application and computer science as my second.
however, I am afraid that my grade might not be high enough to get into the engineering school, and I am hearing a lot of negative things about computer science.
i have been thinking of other...
what's the differences between these fields? i am intrensted in computer hardware. i am not sure whether i am interested in software or not as i am not exposed to java , C++ SQL, ... i am not sure what's these things. What the computer science guys do actually?
Hi everyone,
I have just started learning about DFA's and I have to solve the problem from the thread title with
Σ = {a,b}.
My attempts so far are in the attachments.
I am struggling as to what to do with the words in state 2 that have a b*a*b* substring before getting their second "aa". Can...
Hello,
I would like to get your opinion on moving into programming. Basically, I want job security and the ability to work just about anywhere there are jobs. I've considered taking a job as a programmer, but I would like to know what you suspect the job prospects are for such position? From...
I am a senior right now in high school and am pretty much deciding the beginning of the rest of my career right now. Ultimately, I would love to study both physics and computer science with either a double major or with computational physics. I love learning about mathematics, physics, computer...
I am in grade 12 and very interested in computer science, however I noticed that I do not have as much mathematics "under my belt" as I would like.
I am simply wondering which type of math I should do on my own (in order to best prepare me for computer science).
Thank you!
A very brief history about myself: I was an undergraduate student for one year at a four year university in an engineering major. I applied for engineering mainly for its employment prospects. I didn't do well that year due to emotional problems. I did so poorly that I got dismissed from the...
What Magazines or Journals a Computer Science student must read, In order to be in touch with recent research work in Computer Industry. Should I get a subscription of IEEE Xplore Digital Library or some other website like it.
So a year ago I tried an accelerated paced computer science course when I had no experience programming and I ended up hating it and dropping due to never understanding what was going on. Now I finally decided to take a intro to programming class that is pretty cool, but still no where near as...
Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum, so please let me know if I have made any mistakes in my posting location.
As mentioned in the title, I am returning to school for a second undergrad degree. My first degree was in Business Administration - which did not satisfy my academic needs (to say the...
The question gives the code for MATLAB to solve Hill equation with 5 different values of distance x, which will generate 5 plots on same axis. But the plots will be Force versus time. The question ask you to interpret the relationship between X and F(t).
How do I know this plot represents...
Can i work in IT security if I have a sealed juvenile record of petty theft?
I was 16 when i was caught shoplifting items worth $200 in total. Now 21 and studying Computer Science, I have to choose a concentration of Computer Science to study. I'm wondering if a SEALED juvenile record of...
Hello everyone,
I am currently graduating this December with a BS in Computer Science with a concentration in Systems. However, I want to switch to either Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering for my Masters. Is this possible, and If I am able to get admitted to an EE program would I...
Hello,
My name is Charlie and I'm a computer science here in Southern Texas. Currently I'm taking courses on Newtonian physics. I have an interest in general relativity and non-Euclidean geometry, and hope to eventually take courses on plasma physics. I have many questions that only physics...
Hi, I'm currently a computer science student in my third year. I'm thinking about switching to applied math since I've ended up more interested in math, but I'm not sure whether this will limit my opportunities in the software industry.
I've taken almost all of the computer science classes for...
I'm quite interested in computer science and that's why I'm taking several courses in it. However, my interest in computer engineering is very little, apart from computer architecture/compilers.
How much will my lack of understanding of computer engineering harm me in learning computer science?
Does anyone know of any research being done to control gravity and weather systems through computer science and directed programmatic control leveraging energy?
There's a rumor on the 'internets' (as Bush would call it) that the senate recently discussed openly that HAARP and weather...
Hi,

Currently, I have a CGPA of 4.0 (and I have only four additional semesters to go)...
I have a sample exam in which the teacher provided the answers for, but I am not understanding these flowcharts. I understand actual parameters and formal parameters, but not how I would get the output. Can someone help explain this to me? I have uploaded one of the questions with the answers.
Hi,
I'm currently in grade 9 and I want to do the AP statistics and computer science exams in May. I go to semi-private computer classes on the weekends and the teacher there says he is going to prepare me for the AP computer science exam. Along with that I have a Barron's ap computer science...

So I want to major in Computer Science but the school I will be attending only offers BA degrees(even in the sciences) since they are a small liberal arts school. Will it be a problem for me in the future when looking for jobs if I have a BA in Computer Science?
Also,
A lot of people tell...
I haven't made my official major change yet, but I want some advice.
So I transferred from a local community college to go into Electrical Engineering. I went into it, and I sucked at "hands on" activities in EE. Building circuits just didn't seem like my thing. I mainly went into Electrical...
I'm currently a sophomore (finishing up my second year) and want to get some of your guys's opinions on this matter. I'm on track to finish a degree in CS while finishing premed requirements, and then head off to med school after graduating. The thing is, I don't like CS. I'm close to finishing...
Can I get a Phd in physics after bachelor in computer science I would like know if I'll be eligible for applying to physics or applied physics PhD programs? And if yes, do I have any realistic chance of getting into one?
I've been contemplating the possibility of pursuing a minor (or maybe even a dual major, but probably not) in Computer Science to go along with my Physics major. But I must wonder, is it worth it? Will it help me at all when I look for a job in tens of millions of years after getting a PhD...
I've always had an inferiority complex. In high school, i felt very insecure about my looks and now i feel very insecure about my intelligence.
When i was about 5 and learning to count, my parents told me that I sucked at math, so I am very insecure about my math ability, even though i know...
I am considering majoring in statistics. The school (a mediocre state uni, by the way) calls the major "statistics", but the curriculum is that of an "applied statistics" program, in that it requires you to choose an emphasis that you could apply statistics to. I'm going to choose science...
i am well aware that the job field may be narrower in view but would this be a smart move? i didn't do too well the past two semesters and I am being forced to switch majors. the reason i didn't do well was because of a complete lack of interest and effort on my behalf. I couldn't stand...
The thing is I love computers, and I think a degree in Computer science can amplify that passion. However, just this time, I began to have interest in Physics to which I have no idea that I have. I am sincerely considering taking a double degree in both of these areas. Unfortunately, I don't...
I am majoring in Computer Science and have wondered, is computer science a science? as in the physical and natural sciences or is more appropriate to call it engineering? If not is it proper to call someone that has a career in Computer Science a Scientist? I am dealing with the terms and...
Hi, I am a high school senior and I am really having a hard time deciding what I should major in. I absolutely love Physics and Computer Science, but I am worried about majoring in Physics, because many people tell me that it is only worth getting if you attend one of the big ivy league schools...
I'm a high school senior and I'm going to tech school in the Fall. I applied and was admitted as an EE major, but I am also interested in possibly getting a degree in computer science or Physics instead. I always thought that EE was cool, but I also would be interested in being a computer...
I'm not a physics student and haven't done any physics work since high school. I've since then forgot most of what I knew and although while researching this problem, everything looks familiar. It just doesn't fit together in my head. This isn't a marked piece of the coursework it's just...
Didn't know what forum to post this in..There are some brilliant people on this forum, just wanted to know your thoughts on the P vs NP problem in Computer Science? Do you think it will ever be solved? I think P != NP. That being said, I do believe it could be solved but not with normal...
What do you think about computer science? Do you think outsourcing could be a reason not to pursue this career? Online education is perhaps making it too accessible?
Thanks.
Hi, I would appreciate if someone can check my answers about three questions about computer science and if they are not, what it is missing.
