Creationism is the religious belief that nature, and aspects such as the universe, Earth, life, and humans, originated with supernatural acts of divine creation.
In its broadest sense, creationism includes a continuum of religious views, which vary in their acceptance or rejection of scientific explanations such as evolution that describe the origin and development of natural phenomena. The term creationism most often refers to belief in special creation; the claim that the universe and lifeforms were created as they exist today by divine action, and that the only true explanations are those which are compatible with a Christian fundamentalist literal interpretation of the creation myths found in the Bible's Genesis creation narrative. Since the 1970s, the most common form of this has been Young Earth creationism which posits special creation of the universe and lifeforms within the last 10,000 years on the basis of flood geology, and promotes pseudoscientific creation science. From the 18th century onward, Old Earth creationism accepted geological time harmonized with Genesis through gap or day-age theory, while supporting anti-evolution. Modern old-Earth creationists support progressive creationism and continue to reject evolutionary explanations. Following political controversy, creation science was reformulated as intelligent design and neo-creationism.Mainline Protestants and the Catholic Church reconcile modern science with their faith in Creation through forms of theistic evolution which hold that God purposefully created through the laws of nature, and accept evolution. Some groups call their belief evolutionary creationism. Less prominently, there are also members of the Islamic and Hindu faiths who are creationists. Use of the term "creationist" in this context dates back to Charles Darwin's unpublished 1842 sketch draft for what became On the Origin of Species, and he used the term later in letters to colleagues. Asa Gray published a 1873 article in The Nation saying a "special creationist" who held that species "were supernaturally originated just as they are, by the very terms of his doctrine places them out of the reach of scientific explanation."

Is cosmology an attempt of the church to highjack science? Is this cosmology the beginning of a new breed of "science" where belief is protected and taught under the name of science?
control creation time of light "particles"
Ok, I got this program called FileDate, which allows me to change the creation date and time of a file. Then, a question struck me: What if you were able to control the creation time of light "particles", or light photons? Don't ask me why I'm trying...
I'm a little bit confused in general about what an eigenstate is. So say we have something like: H|n>=hw(N+1/2)|n>
|n> is the eigenket, hw(N+1/2) is the eigenvalue, but what exactly is an eigenstate?
The entire question asks if there are eigenstate to the creation operator and to prove it...

Show that the creation of an electron-positron pair (or any particle-antiparticle pair, for that matter) by a single photon is not possible in isolation, ie, that additional mass (or radiation) must be present. (Hint: Consider the reaction at threshold, then apply...
I have a question regarding anti-matter in which ways can it be created? I got into a heated argument with someone last night. He's a first year university student and he was trying to tell me that we can create it by accelerating particles to the speed of light and making them collide. I know...
Again Hello
I’ve been reading threads on here about what is physical and matter and such like that, also about a possible creator be it god or some alien being of some sort. So this thread is sort of a mixture…not to mention a bit matrix-ee. I’ve been thinking about how unreliable our senses...

Hi again,
I was doing some experiments on heat of combustion of various fuels and determine which fuel is better by creating a calorimeter. And its simple and straight forward but i started thinking what happens to the water created by burning the fuel, as an example i was doing methanol and...
Hi! A question from a beginner in quantum physics... If the quantum field randomly produces an electron-positron pair, and the pair annhialate, a gamma ray photon is produced. The net result of this process is gamma ray photons coming out of the quantum field at random. This means the...
Hi! My exams are coming up soon and I'm revising some of the notions of electromagnetism. What intrigues me is the way electric field is created/distributed within a wire. I've been thinking about it for some time and have come up with the following "hypothesis", idea:
When a conducting wire...

The aim in a particle scattering event is to let an electron and a positron collide and annihilate each other to form a Z-particle. The (rest) masses of these particles are given by:
m_e- c^2 = m_e+ c^2 = 0.511 MeV
m_Z c^2 = 91.187GeV
There are two ways the experiment...
Dirac's theory of the electron predicted that there were identical
particles of equal mass but of negative energy.
He appealed to the Pauli exclusion principle and proposed that there
was a negative energy 'sea' of electrons that was full up to -2mc^2 in

Hey,
I am calculating the expectation value of the position x. I have the wave function
psi(x) = |1> + |2>
so I use the equation <x> = <psi|(a+a^+|psi> to calculate the mean value. So I get
(<1| + <2|)(a+a^+)(|1> + |2>)
which I reduce to
<1|a|1> + <1|a|2> + <2|a|1> +...
Ok so I mixed alum (aluminium potassium sulfate... I think), flower, and cornstarch in a 1:1:1 ratio, and put that in a covered pot and heated it till it produced no more smoke/fumes. This was an attempt to make a rapidly oxidizing powder in air. It was very blind science, I am sorry to say. It...
In beta decay, an antibuetrino or an positron is emitted from the nucleus. how is this possible? how can antimatter come directly from matter? This is pizzling...
"Esoteric" forum creation?
Hello, although this is a scientific forum, i would like to know your opinion about creating a sub-forum about "esoterism" (paranormal phenomenon and all that )  to discuss these subjects. o:)
One of the great theories of physics is the theory of special relativity.
This theory is based on two concepts: -
1. The speed of light is constant.
2. The laws of physics are the same in any inertial frame, regardless of position or velocity
Given the validity of these concepts...
I've posted a similar question to the high energy forum.
As I understand it, LEDs emit photons when electrons and holes have sufficient energy to cross a particular "well". I'm sure this explanation is lacking in many key ways. Why can't we "tune" the gap to create electron-positron pairs and...

Hello,
I just have a quick question, if people would know the exact mechanics of the universe, by all means, would it be possible to also derive the exact theory of creation of the universe? I think no, but I'd like to hear something from you, as you're more educated in this.
Thanks,
Hello,
Haven't been here in a while. Does the Linear Combination of Atomic Orbitals (LCAO) method of developing a basis set imply tight-binding ? Is there a way of using this basis set for not so tigtly bound (there is appreciable overlap) atomic orbitals and still maintain orthagonality...
I'm interested in synthesizing complex waveforms using sine waves.
I know that when two sine waves which differ slightly in frequency from one another are summed, amplitude modulation (AKA "beating") with a frequency equal to the difference in frequency between the two sine waves ensues. This...
I am curious as to whether quantum particle-pair creation could be responsible for cosmological inflation.

In Chapter 6 of M. Kaku's book (QFT), he wrote (p184) "...by rotating the diagram around, we can convert bremsstrahlung into pair creation." Bremsstrahlung, as far as I know, involves atoms. Does this mean that when bremsstrahlung with >1.2 MeV strikes an atom we will get an electron and a...
All right, so what I don't understand about the big bang theory is that when it describes the creation of atoms, does it mean that the particles were already in existence and the explosin only made the particles come together? or were the particles actually created by the big bang? If the...

Intelligent Design is a neat little trick developed by creationists that uses the scientific method to present a possible theory that implies a creator.
My Question has to do with the apparent creation of energy;
