Hi,
I need the compressibility of diesel, depending on density, pressure(0-200bar) and temperatur.
Do you know where to find these values?
Thanks

With Heat exchanger, Exhaust Calorimeter (water and gas) temperatures along with dynometer readings for each temperature reading, is it possible to calculate the pressure coefficient of the engine?
If so, what formula would be required?

A diesel engine which drives a generator has an output of 60 hp operating at a n=31%. Then generator has a n=79% and supploes a load circuit at 240 V. The diesel engine uses light fuel oil (LFO) with a calorific value of 19,600 BTU/lb.
Calculate:

I wonder is what are the legal and application area difference between "Tier","EPA" and "California" Emission Standard in U.S (I am not asking the allowable emission levels).
Also, Is there any difference in on-road and off-road standads(again, I am not asking the emission levels)?
Thanks...
Could a 10 HP diesel engine be made as fuel efficient as say a 100 HP diesel engine, that is (work done/fuel used). Does thermodynamics prevent a smaller engine from being more efficient?
Thank you for your time.
Hallo,
I'm looking for explanation for the fact that in many diesel engines we have two springs supporting the piston valves such that one is exterior and the other interior and they have opposite helical direction. Also if anyone have a link or any information it would be very helpful.
I am currently designing a water distribution system to be installed in Honduras and have run into a small problem. We plan on using a 1.5hp pump which runs at 115 v and 17 amps but the startup requires 106 amps. So to run the pump we need a 2kW diesel generator but to start we need at least a...
I am working of the Diesel Emission Project, however i have some problem in evaluating the filtraion power of the Particulate Remover Unit. The following is my question:

Hey every one.
I have problem in caculating the soot content in (gram of soot)/(1 liter of exhaust gas).
Euor 4 emission standard of PM emission for HD diesel Engine is 0.02 g/kwh (from wikipedia)
So, If I have an engine rated 200kw, the PM is also 0.02g/kwh, Exhaust flow is 1000CFM
then...

hey guys i rebuild diesel engines and i am a facing a very serious problem as i am required to increase a diesel engine hp by at least 20% without adding a turbo charger i tried changing the fuel pump but it only increase 5% which is not enough do you have any idea what i should do ?

Hi, everyone.
Again...I meet some problem in my work.
My boss want to reduce the exhaust soots from a Euro 0/1 engine.
Here is the problem:
1. If I use conventional DPF, how can i know the radius and the length of the DPF filter required for the engine? (The exhaust gas CFM is known)...
I want to compare the Ideal Diesel, Otto and Dual cycles with constant specific heats. I am interested in knowing the relationship between r (compression) and nth (efficiency). I am unable to determine the common inputs to all three which can give me the efficiency for all the cycles. r with...

I must find temperature at each state, for starters.

I have done a little research on this, but i can't find any depth information on what is the major difference between an Aero and Auto diesel?

Hey, my first post so be nice if i have got it in the wrong forum =)

I am looking for a few things, but Chalorific...

The figure shows the thermodynamic cycle of a diesel engine. This cycle differs from that of a gasoline engine in that combustion takes place isobarically. The compression ratio r is the ratio of maximum to minimum volume: r = V_1 /V_2. In addition, the so-called cutoff...
Hi all, new guy here. I am trying to understand the laws that govern a diesel motor. I know it compresses air at about 17 to 1 to ignite the fuel and I think that fuel will expand the air in the chamber at about 5 times the volume consistently (from tdc to end of stroke). I am trying to figure...
I have an application where I am bubbling N2 into diesel at the bottom of a storage tank to register the head pressure.
I want to calculate at what depth (head pressure) the nitrogen gas would go into solution instead of creating a bubble at the bottom of the tank. Could you explain or...
I went to a traveling carnival a few weeks ago, and I noticed that the carnival had several generators to power the rides. My guess is the generator ran off either diesel or gasoline in order to make electricity, although the electricity from the generator might have came from a battery.
Can...
Hello,
Anyone know where I can get fluid properties (specifically kinematic viscosity) of the combustion exhaust form a diesel generator (i am designing an exhaust system and I need to calculate fluid flows). I am not sure the exact chemical makeup of the diesel fuel. An estimation would be...
Which would that be?
I hear diesel engines are always heavier than equivalent gasoline ones. I saw some portable electricity generators the other day, and the truly portable ones were all gasoline-based.
What's the lightest diesel-based electricity generator you know?

The pressure and temperature at the beginning of compression in an air-standard Diesel cycle are 95 kPa and 300K. At the end of the head addition process, the pressure is 7.2 MPa and 2150 K. Assume variable specific heats.
I'm not going to list the parts because all...
Let me start off by saying that I understand conservation of energy and the laws of thermodynamics. I know you can't use water for fuel, and you can't power a vehicle soley on hydrogen produced by an onboard electrolyzer.
But... I have read quite a few claims that using an onboard...
hello, my name is Jesse and I'm new to the forums. I'm in 10th grade chemistry and i have a question.
what is the chemical formula of diesel fuel? i searched it on google and found something about hydrocarbon and i have no idea what this is. please help
Does anyone know the answer?
I have read about Passat (and Touareg) 2004 but the article said they were going to be discontinued in 2005. Has that happened?

Hi,
I'm looking into making a simple steam-engine. For that purpose I need a Diesel burner which should be as efficient as possible, both with regard to oil-consumption and pollution, which I guess is to say that it should provide as complete and stoichiometric a combustion of the oil as...
Hi,
I'm not an engineer. Unfortunately, my irrepressible brother has somehow coaxed and cajoled me into tinkering with alternative energy - à la vegetable oils, ethanols, etc - and now I'm hooked. I'd love to have one of those Lister Cold Start twin cylinder stationary diesels to play with...
I need to do some head loss calculations for pumping diesel fuel or No. 2 fuel oil from a storage tank to an emergency generator. I see in many places that diesel fuel is specified to have kinematic viscosities of 1.3 to 4.1 cSt at 40C. However, under worst case scenarios, this fuel is likely...
First let me say hello and give an introduction.

Need help to find a way to capture waste heat from diesel electric generators (45 KW) to heat water for small hotel use (45 rooms + kitchen). Exploring all options: jacket water, oil, exhaust. Anyone please help.
I'm starting this up in Engineering, but if it starts to go that way then perhaps Russ or Enigma could move it to the Politics forum? Before that happens I'd first like to bottom out technical issues.
The question:
What would it take to convert the US (and Canadian) automobile markets to...
hey all, so we all know bio diesel works, and I am guessing that most of us know what it is and even how to (basicly) make it. you obviously have to use it in diesel engines, thus the name. This must mean that it has a low octane, high cetane make up. my question is, is it possible to just mix...
I'm trying to put together something that can go ~50mph, weighs ~150-175lbs, and gets ~400-500mpg. After poking around a bit, I've seen that a few smaller gas engines like Honda's GX22 used on a road bicycle can result in excellent mileage (~300-350mpg) and speed (~30mph) when set up...
Does anyone know if there have been any posts on the vegetable oil to diesel conversions. I am very interested in the topic, but couldn't find anything yet. I guess if there is nothing yet posted, this could be the new post.
I'll try and get some of the info that I have and post it.
