Hi,
I will be a 2nd year EE student as of next september and I need to choose a stream (I am in a 3 year program and I'm from europe). There are 3 main streams but I already ruled the Electrical Power stream out as it doesn't seem for me. The 2 streams left are the Electronics stream and the...
Hello All,
Lately I have been pushing myself to learn how to learn better, and more effectively. I have been reading books, and listening to audio for help on this. Some of the stuff is sticking and I am trying to put my learning's to work. I want to learn Electrical Engineering concepts and...
Engineering that is indispensable for society or improving peoples life?? maybe EE?
Well I enjoy physics and math, but not to much chemistry becouse i suck at it. I want a career that really make an impact in peoples life, but not in a superficial way. I was thinking in Electrical Engineering...
Hi guys,
I'm looking at potentially dropping my computer engineering degree from my dual degree plan (EE is my other degree). I would still maintain an emphasis in computer engineering for my degree, but do you think by doing this I will be harming my chances to be employable after...
Devry University online has a Master's program for Electrical Engineering. The degree is not yet ABET accredited. I talked to someone at Devry and they said that ABET was going to evaluate the program and possibly put the stamp of approval on it (become accredited).
Has anyone heard about this?
Hello. I want to work with Photovoltaics and with the renewable industry. Electric motors, boats, cars. Is EE a good choice? I was thinking first in ME but looks like you see more of solar energy in EE. Please i need urgent advice i only left like 2 moths to make a choice.
Hello =). I know that this is what i like: clean/renewable energy ,electric/green vehicles. But i don't know what career will be better, Mechancial Engineering or Electrical Engineering or go for both. Wich one will open more gates to this field? Can you go for both and its good?
Aloha!
I'm entering my Junior year at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and I'm considering transferring to another school. When I applied to college I never really considered schools too carefully and ultimately settled at UH, my fall back. It's a decent school, and we have some amazing...
Hello, I am an electrical engineering student and i am wondering what classes would be handy to take that are NOT required in the curriculum? I've thought about linear algebra but I'm not sure if it would just be a waste. I want something to give me an edge over the others whenever i enter the...
Hi,
My final year of my undergraduate career in Engineering Physics (essentially a physics degree with a few engineering-specific courses thrown in in the first two years) begins in the Fall and I'm now looking ahead to graduate school. Based on my work experience thus far, my ultimate goal...
Hey all. So I think I want to go back to school after taking some time off. One option I am thinking about is to get a masters in electrical engineering. Although I've technically only ever taken one class in EE, in which I aced every test, through physics I've become pretty adept at both...
I was wondering if it was possible to do physics BS then MEng in EE without making up too many courses?
My goal is to end up working in the industry, so that's why I'm thinking about doing the MEng in EE (I also enjoy analog part of EE, as well as the solid-state device design). If I plan to...
EE Research Topics? (Undegraduate)
Hello all!
I've just recently applied for undergraduate student research award, and if I do end up winning I will have to discuss with one or several professors my interests and the possibilities of them having a spot for me within one of their labs.
The...
I want to work in the medical industry. Biomedical engineering is a pretty broad, multidisciplinary field, so I'm sure they work in teams including EEs.
It's really the biomedical engineering type projects that I want to work on, now I'm just trying to decide which role I want to take on in...
hello everybody, I am going into my 3rd year as an EE major, usually between semesters ill either prep or try to learn more tools for my tool box. my question is this: are there any tools (languages, certifications, subjects, etc.) that would "really" aid me when i enter the workforce...
Hello, I'm currently studying electrical engineering and going into my senior year this fall. I've always had a fascination with physics since I am the type of person that likes to ask "why?". My main concern is that with a physics minor, I may have to stay an extra semester or two (not too big...
Does it make sense to pursue a BS in Chemical Engineering, and then go into graduate school for a MS or PhD in EE? Or does that pathway make little sense.
Hi,
I am an EE student and I'm nearing the end of my first year from a 3 year course. I am quite sure that I want to continue studying after I obtain my degree, however I'm not sure what I want to study just yet. Is this normal for someone at my stage? Or should I already have a clear picture...
I once heard that the number of physics majors is always in direct proportion to those of electrical engineering in the same school, is that true? Here at U Texas El Paso the ratio has been:
7% (2005)
5.4% (2006)
4.7 (2007)
3.4 (2008)
.
This is of interests because what I heard was that...
I'm torn between C and D, can anyone explain which answer is which and WHY?
Also, I don't know whether the answer to this is "in" or "out", however I'm quite sure it's out. Does the direction of a magnetic field have to be North to South?
Hi, i am in the process of trying to transfer to EE from EET. before i do i really want to know the big diffrence between this two fields. i am a hands on person, but i also do not mind having calculus as part of a more complex concept. and how big of a jump am i trying to make? thanks
urgent!
Note: I learned German while I lived in Switzerland for 2 years. I'm studying to be an EE right now.
From your professional experience in the industry, would German be a very useful language to know? Is there much of a demand for bilingual engineers? From my experience in Switzerland, almost...
I have a degree in physics and would like to progress to the EE field . I have love faradays law and maxwells laws of electromagnetism. I am interested in their application so I am thinking of going for an Msc in Wireless communication. I am considering two uni.
Univeristy of greenwich and...
I'm currently an undergrad in EE and was just wondering if it was needed to get a Master's degree to find a good job. I want to specialize in electronics and computer hardware. I don't want to be a programmer but rather would work alongside them in design and such.
I haven't even really...
Hello all. I am new to the forum and have already learned a lot about the academics and career choices facing scientists and engineers. I believe I have a somewhat unique situation, and need some opinions from people in the field.
Basically, I am a Junior in college who has just found out...
I'm in my second year of EE at my university right now, and I'm going to have to pick what I want to specialize in. That means I should now have some sort of idea of what I actually want to do once I graduate.
The class that I've enjoyed the most thus far has got to be one called Digital...
I hope some of you can provide me different opinions regarding the dilemma I face now. I am about to begin life as a graduate student majoring in Electrical Engineering; my goal is a PhD. Of the schools that I have been accepted into there are two schools I am trying to decide between...
I'm a math major having taken 1st yr physics, programming, lab electronics, and a EE minor of 4-5 courses on signal processing and linear systems (including couple grad courses). I'm also doing medical imaging research w/ the EE dept this summer. I didn't major in EE b/c I've no interest in...
I am trying to nail down what exactly the difference in jobs are between a Electrical and Computer Engineer. I think I have a relatively good idea of what to look for in CpE since I am a bit more familiar with what kinds of work they do and know of a good website to browse representative jobs in...
Say I enter PHD w/ an outside MS. What percentage of coursework can I usually transfer? How many semesters classes need I retake?
I'm thinking of an MS in signal processing in EE, if that makes any difference. thanks.
im a sophomore but almost a yr ahead. I've 2 options:
1) bs math + ms coterm ee (signals or controls)
- already close to a bs math
- takes 2 more yrs so gets covered by my undergrad finaid.
2) (bs + coterm ms) ee
- bs ee requires almost a yr more of classes than math
- takes 3 more...
In preparation for my PhD Qualifying Exam I've prepared a series of lectures on SPP Dispersion Relations , Boundary conditions; Magnetic Field, Transmission Lines Part 1, and Reflection Transmission Normal Incidence Part 1 among other things. My YouTube page can be found at:

I am in the middle of an EE graduate program and I have been taking courses in device physics and semiconductors process technology. I am starting to think that this isn't the area I am truly passionate about. I haven't really been doing all that well in the classes. Which areas of EE are...
Hi All,
I am a computer programmer who has studied computer science and electrical engineering .It is my desire to combine my programming skill and EE background to design systems that potentially constitute mechanical parts( controlled by circuit and firmware...) .The problem is ,I have no...
Hello,
I haven’t frequented this board in long while but right now I need some advice.
I’m currently a third year electrical engineering student (on an irregular course sequence) and quite frankly, I’m becoming disillusioned about the field I’ve chosen. It’s not that electronics or power...
I want to be an electrical engineer. It sounds fascinating, but I honestly don't know much about it at all. It's about time I learned. I start college this fall but right now I have a LOT of free time and I want to get a head start now.
What could I spend the next few months doing before I...
Hello, everyone. I am currently in an EE program with an expected graduation date of June 2012, and I am getting a better idea of what I want to be doing later down the road. I have decided that I want to pursue graduate studies with Nanotechnology. I am mostly interested with nanotech...

Hello everyone,
My name is Dave. I live in Louisiana and am currently attending a community college in the town that I live in. I am looking to transfer to a larger school in order to work to obtaining my E.E. degree. I cannot afford (not do I really wish) to go into a large amount of debt...
First of all, sorry if this is posted in the wrong area. I thought that this pertains more to a career than anything (also because I do indeed view my education as the first step of my new career...)
I've found myself in a situation that is quite the opposite of what I'd envisioned for...
This is going to be a bit verbose, so prepare yourself :)
I asked this same question a while ago on this forum and the responses I got indicated to me that I did not ask my question properly and that I did not give enough background information for anyone to understand what my goals actually...
Hey there everyone, I'm new to the forums! I just finished my first semester in college as an electrical engineer. I didn't really take any "engineering" courses per se, but I was introduced to programming via Matlab. Next semester I'll be doing more math, more programming (C++), and an...
I'm a sophomore EE student in US. When I was little, I imagined myself creating robots and other cool stuff, and that stuck through high school and into college. And now, I have been thinking about dropping EE and going with physics, which is what really interests me. I guess I've been a bit...
Physics ---> EE
Hello all,
I am currently a Physics major in my 2nd year having second thoughts about my major. After taking my physics III course on E&M I have found myself pretty interested in electricity. I am highly considering switching over to Electrical Engineering for a more hands...
I really believed that I had my mind made up on the direction I wanted to go, but as the time draws near for me to begin my academic adventure I realized I have been operating on an assumed belief... That it is easier to get a job with a BA in Electrical Engineering than with a BA in Physics...
Hey, I am a junior at the University of Central Florida. This past summer I switched from a MIS major to electrical engineering. I had to take trig this semester in order to take calc 1 this coming semester. Because calc 1 is a prereq for almost everything, the only other classes I can take next...
OK, so I'm in a real tough decision right now. I am a freshman in college right now, and am about to register for the spring semester. I originally declared as an EE, but to tell you the truth, it really does not interest me, and working 60 hour weeks does not seem like fun. My school has a real...
