Hi.
Is there a movement in some electrical engineering programs to favour programming skills over a more hands on/electronics approach (if I could call it that)?
If so, what is the motivation for this? Trends in skills demanded by industry/academia?

Hi all,
I got my BS in EE 2 years ago. I started working for this company but I feel that I'm going nowhere. All I do is test and I hate it. I was thinking of going back and getting my Masters in EE because ultimately I would like to do design. I made the mistake of not taking any...
What is the main difference between the two? They seem to be very, very closely related and I'm having difficulty deciding between the two.
Help me please~

Hi,
I'm going to join the bachelor's program in Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering at the University of Duisburg- Essen. I had to choose this subject because there is no bachelor's degree in Physics in Europe (excluding UK, Ireland) where the language of instruction is English.
But I've a...
So far, I've taken Algebra 1 and 2, and Geometry. I'm taking Functions/Stats/Trig next year, and there's a great chance I'll be taking calc 1 senior year. (high school, of course)
What other classes should I be taking, if I want to major in electrical engineering? I've heard calc is a BIG...
Hi all,
I've been looking through the forums trying to find out what exactly electrical engineers do but have had no luck.
I've read many people say that electrical engineering is a broad degree and there are a number of different types of jobs that they can do within the field (I'm not...

*I am using the conventions of circular polarisation according to electrical engineering , not the one used in optics*
Let us take a uniform plane TEM wave traveling in +z direction which is composed of two linearly polarised TEM waves , one whose electric field lies in X direction , the other...
I was wondering if anyone could give me some feed back on how much programming an electrical engineer does on an average week?
I've talked to my professors and have gotten mixed answers, the general consensus I got when deciding between computer and electrical engineering was go electrical...

I am currently doing my 2nd year A levels in chemistry, phys and F.Math. Finshd normal math in yer 1. I am undecided as to whether I should study EE or Mathematical physics.
The thing Is I have a great interest for math and applications of math but greatly dislike qualitative stuff. I hear that...
Hi all,
I have a big decision to make, and I'm looking for advice from those in the fields. I'm trying to decide whether to be a computer or an electrical engineer. For the moment, I have been dual majoring in both, but due to family reasons, I will be transferring to a new university in the...
Can anyone help me get started on the basics in electrical engineering or maybe sending me some of the threads that already exist in the forum that are related to the basics and introduction of EE.
Would be glad if someone helped, thnx!
I should have posted this here before. Oops. *gets a n00b hat*
I really want to go into engineering. Badly. And I always come back to electrical engineering. But I don't have enough room in my schedule next year to take electronics in high school. So, how am I supposed to figure out if I want...
With regards to the electrical engineering field, do you believe it is possible to maybe find some work before graduating, (i.e. before you have a full bachelors degree,) So that you can practice what you've been taught in college, in order to retain the skills, and to get experience also ...

I am in serious dilemma what to choose. I work as software profession till now for 5 yrs and I am already 30 yrs old.Lately I was thinking going back to school and apply for EE(signal procession or communication or RF) for phd. I got admission on them too but I am least interested onto it though...
Hello,
My name is Jack Brassens and I am currently a Sophomore in high school.
For the past few months I've been thinking a lot about my future and decided that Engineering is something that I really want to major in and live my life doing.
So without further ado, I have a few different...

So here's the rundown:
I just got into the electrical engineering department. However, I've already taken some intro EE classes (intro circuits, intro DSP, intro logic design) and even an advanced one (devices, transistors) and i really didnt like any of them at all.
However, i am also a...
Hey all,
I think what I'm looking for is pretty self explanatory. If this isn't the right forum to post this question in, feel free to yell at me and i'll post it elsewhere.
As some background, I am a senior electrical engineering major at a major university. I am in a senior design...
Hi.
This is to all the practicing EEs out there.
What are some of the challenges of electrical engineering work? Is it varied? What is your role (esp. wrt to EE technologists/technicians)?
Preferably, answers will come from various specialties and roles (please state them).
For example...
Hello,
I am very new to the forums, and I ran across another form discussing these two topics; however the previous thread was mainly discussing nanotechnology. I am interested to find out which carrier I should pursue: chemical eng. or Elec. Eng.?
I am extremely interested in both...
Dear Experts,
For convolution to work in any input signal we should be able to represent the input signal in terms of appropriately scaled and shifted unit impulses. This one holds good for discrete time system in which the input signal can be represented as sum of scaled shifted unit impulses...
I need to choose which area to specialize in by the end of the month and I need some help.

I'm already half way through electrical engineering undergraduate course (I have taken subjects like circuit analysis and electromagnetic theory), and I am thinking of reviewing these subjects. For this, I also need to review physics. However, I don't know which topic should I start from. I want...
I'm stuck between Electrical Engineering and Mechanical.
Mechanical does seem cooler as it seems to be more of a dynamic field, however, what would the job prospects be like for an Electrical engineer? It seems more and more high school students are playing around with circuitry... wouldn't...
Hi, I've recently finished school and have applied to study a combined degree in Physics and Electrical Engineering. I was just wondering what advantages (or disadvantages) this double specialisation would have for a career in physics as opposed to studying physics alone?
can anybody recommend a book for electrical engineering? i want to learn all the components and be able to read a circuit diagram.
something like this (geiger-counter)

Is C++ programming used in electrical engineering work, it really doesn't seem as though it would be,but what could it be useful for, some kind of possible scenario ? (E.E. encorporates the use of electricity to make things happen mainly, whereas C++ has to do with computer design)
and also, how practical is an applied math degree?
I love math and learning concepts, but I think it's also important to know you will always have a job.
I'm guessing that engineering trumps math in this aspect?
(I'll be attending the University of Texas at Austin next year)
Which degree is more employable? Anyone ever change from Physics to EE and not be disappointed? I'm just scared to major in Physics because I've never seen a job posting that says "Physics Bachelor's required." So it's a bit scary. Thanks.
This is my best guess, would this be correct? Electrical engineering is about physics and electronic circuits mostly, and quite a bit of math, and a little chemistry, a small amount of that. Does electrical engineering involve anything else?
Would an electrical engineer who earns a B.A. in Electrical engineering from around say 1998 - 2009 going to be taught different concepts than an electrical engineer who went to college say in 1950 or 1970 ? What are some of the differences?
