integral (dx)/(x^3+x)
i tried solving it with partial integration and got stuck when i got find B and C...this was what i did
= integral (dx)/[x(x^2 + 1)]

=> 1 = A(x^2 + 1) + (Bx+C)(x)

can someone help me set up this problem. it asks for the partial fraction decomposition of:
(7x^3 - 2)/[(x^2)(x+1)^3]
i thought you put A/x^2 + B/(x+1)^3 and solve but it doesn't work that way.
If we're asked to expand an irrational partial fraction, we need to rationalize it first, right? I've forgotten (well not totally) how to perform polynomial division. Here are a few examples:
1. (1000x +1000000)/(.4x + 200).
For this one I got 50000.
2. (500x + 60000)/(x+100)...
I've been looking all over the net since yesterday for a PROOF of a theorem called the "heaviside method" it involves partial fractions and itegration of such. If anyone could show me a proof of it or send me a link of it I would gladly appreciate it, thanks!
how do I make:
20(x + 20) / ((x+10)^2 + 400)
into a fraction like (x-a)(x-b)...etc / (x-c)(x-d)...etc
where a b c d are constants. The 400 is really stumping me.
Hi all!
how would you do this partial fraction problem?

The answer is \frac{1}{2s}+\frac{1}{2(s+2)}-\frac{1}{s+1}-\frac{1}{(s+1)^3}

Hey eveyone,
trying to determine the partial fraction decomposition of:
(22x^2+60x+58)
(s+1)(x^2+4x+5)^2
I got values for my unknowns A, B, C, D,E are:
A=5
B=-1777/29
C=-6143/29
D=-570/29
E=840/29
If anyone out there can double check these for me.
what are alternative ways to do partial fraction?
other than the normal method of mulplying the whole term over and comparing coefficient which is super headache method
i heard of "cover-up method", gets the answer real quick
anyone have details to this?

Use partial fraction decompostion to find:
\int_{a}^{b} \frac{2x-1}{x^2(3x+1)(x^2 + 1)}
is this partial fraction set up correct?
\frac{A}{3x +1} + \frac{Bx + C}{x^2 +1} + \frac{Dx + E}{x^2} = 2x - 1
If this is correct i can solve the integral.
Did I do this right? I'm relying on a formula the teacher gave us in class, without quite understanding it intuitively. So I'm just rewriting the formula to solve for my unknown and plugging in numbers.

hi everyone
i have a proplem with this excercise:
f(t)= (t+1)/(t^2 + 8t + 16)
Here what i started:
(t+1)/(t^2 + 8t + 16) = (t+1)/(t+4)^2

i am stuck from here, anyone please help me, thanks first
Hey guys,
I'm working on this project for my research and I am having trouble reducing a fraction. The fraction is:

I need to find the partial fraction expansion of the integrand z/[(z-2i)(z+i)]
Just doing 1/(z-2i) + 1/(z+i) results in (2z-i)/(z-2i)(z+i).
It seems easy, but I can't figure out what to multiply by to get the correct numerator.
As part of finding the integral of z/(z^2 -1), I'm stuck on getting the partial fraction for it. 1/2 [(1/(z-1) - 1/(z+1)] gives 1/(z^2-1). What should I do to get the z in the numerator. Any hints welcome.
