can i say normal force acting on the object perpendicular to the surface is the frictional force??
because if the normal force is great enough, the object will not slide down...so, can i say frictional force is normal force?
help me...thank you

So, this particular plane is angled so that a certain object will roll at a constant acceleration of 2 m/s each second. The object's initial velocity will be zero and in one second its velocity will be 2 m/s, but will only have traveled 1 m during that duration between zero and one seconds. Is...

I'm pretty sure I did this correctly, but my answers are different from those given in the back of the book (which our TA warned us were frequently incorrect), so I thought I'd ask you guys if I made any obvious mistakes.

This isn't really a numerical question, just a conceptual questoin. I wanted to know why if you have an object rolling down an inclined plane, you can just choose to put the pivot point anywhere.
This is because I see problems where one thing is solved using F*R=I\alpha
And I also see when...

Hi guys,
I need to model a ball rolling on an incline plane, and i would like to be able to calculate acceleration due to gravity for a given angle.
Currently i have:

f = m*g*sin(angle)
a = g*sin(angle)
I am aware this does not take rotational motion into account, which is what...
