INTRODUCTORY BOOKS TO "relativity"
hello everybody ..
I hope you are all okey.
i have seen a lot of discussions in what are the best introduction to the field of relativity
or the special theory of relativity be Albert ein.
MY QUESTION NOW IS WHAT ARE THE BEST INTRODUCTORY BOOKS TO THIS...

I'm still reading the paper, but this appears to be a http://arxiv.org/abs/0906.0022" on the students' response to two different curricula on teaching intro E&M at the undergraduate level. They did this at 4 different well-known universities in the US and arrive at a rather conclusive and clear...
I have a few extremely simple questions about thermodynamics... I'm trying to self study it, but a few things just don't add up... I'm currently working on the first law =/

However, it then states that, if the external...

I'm looking for some texts related to engineering of particle accelerators.
Found some texts which focus on the physics (which admittedly are beyond my skill level), however I need to focus more on the actual engineering of particle accelerators.
The type of accelerator is not so important...
Hello, I'm a grad student in computer sciences with a BS in math starting to do research in quantum computing. Can somebody recommend me some references on quantum mechanics? Right now I'm reading Leslie Ballentine's book "Quantum Mechanics: A Modern Development", and just finished reading...
The math part seems really interesting too, it is mainly based on linear operators on hilbert spaces. But, it seems to me that it only uses inner product (pre-hilbert) spaces, then why these authors (and also paper authors) refers always to hilbert spaces?
What is a very good differential geometry introductory text?
My only background is Calculus (spivak). however, I'm very interested in mastering differential geometry (at both the pure math and physics application level). Any recommendations?

Also l'hopital rule doesn't work...
I've started my own personal pet project in trying to suggest a possible revamping of the often dreaded intro physics lab. My philosophy here is two fold:
1. Teach skills in how we arrive at how things behave
2. The students shouldn't be encumbered with "theories" that they need to either...
Science Professionals: Master's Education for a Competitive World is a book published by National Academies Press. This particular one is available free in pdf format, but one has to register. I strongly recommend academics take a look at it.

Hey!
I know there are a lot of book recomendations in this site, but I thought my background
is sufficiently strange to ask for a special answer.
I've got my Calculus, basic Real Analysis and linear algebra OK.
I'm rather weak in geometry though, but I feel ok learning new stuff in maths.

Any body who knows a good free ebook on introductory level electromagnetism using vector calculus and introductory level quantum mechanics, please give me the link.
I actually just posted this in the physics subforum but realized that it is much more appropriate here.
So I've got a good deal of the summer in front of me, and I've realized that I've wasted all of my time doing nothing. As a result, I've decided to do something productive and teach myself...
Hey everyone,
I'm a rising junior scheduled to take a Methods of Mathematical Physics class this coming fall. I've heard that this class utilizes a lot of partial differential equations, and I'd like to get a bit of a jumpstart and familiarize myself with some concepts before the semester...
I've been getting into physics a lot recently and the really theoretical aspect of it has caught me so I've been studying astrophysics and chaos theory outside of school on my own. The thing is though whenever I try and get a grasp on Quantum Physics, whether through wikipedia (not the best...
I will apply the same cavaet here that I did to my earlier thread. I have only started taking an introductory QM course, and am still grappling with the subject matter(which is exceptionally counter-intuitive, as I'm sure everyone here would agree) so forgive me if the question seems inane to...

It may seem that I will be taking an analytical chemistry course for my major in Biotechnology, and I have never really taken an analytical chemistry course. I have probably studied the topics in regular chemistry courses but I am unaware as to what exactly this course teaches or the topic(s) it...
Greetings,
Note:I am in my eleventh year of school, thus not into 'real' calculus yet; or in university, for that matter.

I am looking for a book on QM to read over the break. I'm not sure what kind of math and science is required to learn QM, but I've only had math through linear algebra and differential equations, and I haven't studied any atomic physics yet. Also, I don't want a book that is too mathematically...
I've been reading a paper at the following link:

I'm currently a sophomore in High School, and have only just recently found a very strong interest in the workings of the universe. I've only taken up to Algebra (although I am pretty proficient with it) as far as math goes. I'm a relatively fast learner, and am interested in buying a...

I would like a text that is either upper division undergrad, or possibly at the graduate level. Also, are there any "classics" or bibles in the field?
