Masters athletics is a class of the sport of athletics for athletes of over 35 years of age. The events include track and field, road running and cross country running. Competitors are bracketed into five-year age groups (which promotes fair competition). For international events the first age group is 35 to 39. Men as old as 105 and women in their 100s have competed in running, jumping and throwing events. Masters athletes are sometimes known as "veterans" and the European Masters Championships, for instance, is known as "Eurovets." This and other high level events including biennial World Championships cater largely to elite-level athletes, but many masters athletes are novices to athletics and enjoy the camaraderie offered by masters competition at the local, National and International level. Most National governing bodies for track and field hold annual Masters championships. Prestigious National meets such as the Penn Relays and the United States Olympic Trials (track and field) put on exhibition events for top masters athletes. Masters athletics is growing Internationally with over 6000 athletes competing at recent World Championships. World; National and Regional records are maintained for each age group.
In the United States, USATF (USA Track & Field) hosts various Masters events including National Championships for Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field and Cross Country. USATF adds the age divisions 30-34 as Sub-Masters, and 25-29 as Pre-Masters to give athletes just past college age more opportunities to compete.
what eng?
Hey I am from Australia, and I am second year doing science going to major in maths(possible applied or whatever will help me most with the engineering i pick), and i was wondering what eng masters i should do? I liked civil but i heard there's not much maths involved. i wouldn't mind...
I am a second year AE major. I am also doing a minor in CS. I want to do masters in either AE or CS..and I am seriously not sure about which one to pick and need some help in deciding.
The questions are
1] How well do these 2 subjects [AE and CS] interact with each other
2] Will I find a well...
I'm looking into programs for my Master's in Aerospace Engineering, and have noticed that I could do a non-thesis program where I would need to pass an oral examination. Has anyone done this option, and if so, what type of questions are asked? I would guess they would need to be theory based...
I have just started my freshman year at the University of Texas at Dallas.
I had the opportunity to go to Northwestern but turned it down for financial reasons.
I am starting out in Pure Math. Currently, I hope to go into grad school to get a PhD, as I want to do research and tremendously...
Which Subjects will benefit me more:
-Mechanics (Extensive, sound foundation in mechanics)
or
-Further Pure Maths (If I take all the units, likewise, I will have a better understanding of mathematics)
Or can I do it while I'm starting my last semester or so?
And if the answer is yes, would it hurt my chances?
The plan right now is to graduate with a Computer Science degree in summer 2010, and I'd like to start studying for a Masters in fall 2010 if possible. Thanks for any help. :)
I dropped out of an Electrical Engineering major in my old school, and now I'll be studying Computer Science in another school.
Does this pretty much leave me stuck in CS for a Masters? I didn't even finish the basic EE stuff in my old school, like the introduction to circuit analysis stuff...
I've decided that I want to pursue mechanical (automotive) engineering as a career, but unfortunately my school (Emory) doesn't offer engineering. How educationally/vocationally feasible is it to major in math for undergrad, and then go onto a masters MechE program?
Hi Everyone,
I graduated from MIT in June as a double in physics and ChemE, but with a GPA of 3.1/4. I'm published and I have research experience, but my GPA still doesn't measure up to what I've seen other physics majors compete with. Add to that I'm in the navy and won't be able to start a...
I will be graduating in a year with a B.S. in Mathematics, and will likely go into industry working with computers. I know how to program, and am fascinated with the mathematics of computer science (combinatorics, graph theory, algorithm analysis, etc).
I came across a masters program...
Hey, I would like to enter grad school and complete my Masters and PhD. Eventually I would like to work for the R&D dept. of a company.
Photonics was one of the choises that I had as I am interested in the new tech. that integrates photons in I.C.'s. Unfortunately I cannot find a lot of...
I've been going through some of the Masters in Physics programs offered by various US universities and none of them seem to offer financial aid for the masters level program - however, all the Ph.D Physics programs seem to be financially covered. Is this the norm for all US universities? Aren't...
Are the standards lower for being accepted into a master program rather than a PHd physics program or are the standards about the same? I was thinking about applying to a master's program in physics if my grades were not high enough to be accepted into a phD program.
Regarding Masters program. Guide me :)
i am a physics graduate from India and would like to opt for master program in physics, i m
unable to chose the field for masters, i have a rough idea where i m interested in, blending theoritical and practical physics :blushing:. Albeit heard about...
Masters degree?
One of my friends has a B.S in physics, and a masters in mechanical engineering. He did it all in 6 years.
Now surely an appreciable amount of physics relates to mechanical engineering, but is it typically that easy to complete another "separate" major like that?
If I do 4...
Hi,
I would like to get into a good physics graduate program but my undergraduate background is probably not good enough to achieve that. So, I was wondering if it is advisable to get a terminal masters degree at a middle tier school as a stepping stone for getting into a better school's PhD...
I'm almost finished my undergrad degree, and was trying to find a job with it, when I discovered that a mathematical physics degree isn't the most employable (in science/engineering/technology) outside of academia. For this reason I am now considering going for a masters degree. I was hoping...
how favorable is an accelerated ms/bs program sound to an employer, as compared to a regular 2-2.5 year MS? (finish my BS and MS in 5 years... start taking grad class in senior year)
also, I am thinking about going the MS-project/exam route, than a thesis. What do employers think of this...
Hello,
Firstly, I'm technically a senior working towards my Bachelors in Mathematical Science. I chose a physics concentration for my math degree. However, working with my advisors, I've taken several special topics classes (such as particle physics) to beef up my physics background.
At...
All the admissions decisions are in, and I got rejected from most of my schools but I did get into one of my top choice's...Masters program.
So I called this school's math department today and I got the rundown of being in the Masters program. I made it clear that it is not my intention to...
My Plan
I plan on applying to the Univeristy of Washington's and Washington State Masters program (terminal) Although the program is not designed such that one could move on to a PhD in the process. I was thinking of getting a Masters in Physics (condensed matter) with a final Thesis, and If I...
Hi
so i recently decided that i waned to become an applied physicist, and i hoep to end up one day w/ a Ph.D.
Im actually a senior in college right now and will graduate soon with a liberal arts degree. so i had a change of career faily late.
Should i go to a state school and get a...
i'm working on my BE in mechanical engineering right now (and I've still got a ways to go) and I'm really interested in the aspects of physics that we don't really get into in the engineering program, so i started toying around with the idea of getting a masters in physics afterwards. i know, i...
How do these two compare to a tech (Apple, ARM, RIM, Asustek, etc) company? I ask this because I lost interest in doing computer engineering however working at RIM for coop has sparked my interest again. Where would I fit coming back to this company with a physics+CE masters? Would the engineer...
Being an undergrad in EE - I'm heavily leaning towards the MBA/MS finance route for future career options. Yet does this mean i should give up on EE henceforth after I graduate? What added career benefits do I get in the future with an Masters in EE?
P.S - If I was told again on choosing...
I'm trying to weigh my options early to decide whether it's best for me to go on to a PhD program after I finish my MS in physics or go into industry.
A little background: I'm in my first year (first semester, at that) of my MS program in physics. I'm at the same school I completed my BS in...
My new posts may seem similar to my past original topics I've posted in this forum. But in reality , this particular post is just an extension of the many questions I have on my mind about physics, as I transcend from my undergrad studies to hopefully my postgrad studies. Right now, as I...
Hi - I'm an undergrad EE thinking about graduate school: whether or not to attend after I graduate or later.
If I go to graduate school immediately after, I will have to pay. If I get a job with a reputable company with a decent tuition assistance program, they will pay. Obviously, we know...
Hi Everyone.
I thought I'd pose this question here since I've gotten much conflicting advice about this from pretty much everywhere.
My goal is to get a PhD in astrophysics. I am interested in both theoretical and observational cosmology. My undergrad degree is in physics. The reason why I...
most universities in US offer a terminal masters degree.
does enrolling for this degree mean, the candidate can't further pursue any other degree in the future?
like suppose if he/she changes his mind after the terminal degree, if he wants to do research is he barred from starting with a...
I'm in my third year after bouncing around from physics, math, civil, and now mechanical engineering and find myself going through the motions on most of my coursework and projects. I spend my free time reading physics books like Planck's treatise on thermodynamics and in my classes only find...
I am in my first year of ME. I want to know If I can do masters in aeronautics after my Bachelors? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Abdullah
I am currently finishing up a list of schools I want to apply for a masters programs for fall of 08. My plan is to go through the masters program and if I make it through to apply to a PhD program. I have googled lists for masters programs in the United States but came up empty. I was wondering...
Is it possible to get a masters fellowship? If I don't get into a PhD program I plan on applying to 2 or 3 financial mathematics masters programs, some of them run up to $40,000-$50,000 for the duration of the program.
If there is no way to get a masters fellowship, is there anyway to find a...
I'll be finished my BS in mathematical physics next spring, and have been thinking about what to do after. One idea I came up with was to do a masters in Engineering (probably mechanical, aerospace, or electrical). Does anyone have any information on if this is doable? Will I have sufficient...
What are the fundamental differences in the nature of the work done in a master's thesis and a doctorate thesis?
I'm guessing there is less help provided by the advisor at the doctorate level and also that the "difficulty" level is higher at the doc level because the doctorate student has more...
Im currently working on my BS in EE. After I graduate, I would like to enter the field and see what it's like, then go for my masters. So, a few questions:
1) If I decide that I do want to get my masters, would it be feasible to get a MS in Aerospace Eng, with an EE background?
2) Let's...
Hi guys, I've just completed my first year at Florida Tech with a 3.78 GPA (and completed Physics 1 and 2, and Chem 1 and 2, as well as up to Calc 3 - all with A's except Chem 1 which was a B. I also took a technical writing course and got an A). I also switched from an Astrophysics major to...
Hi folks,
It seems like time has come for me to hunt a master's director and I wish to understand what the correct social dynamics is for approaching a professor before I go in a screw it up.
Tell me if this makes sense.
I look at the professors' profiles and eliminate those who are working...
Hey all
I just got accepted to KTH which i hear is one of the best universities in Sweden, unfortunately I'm in a dilemna. I have a great job and good salary and the company would soon become dependant on me after the main engineer leaves in the coming week and my salary can go as high as my...
I will shortly be able to acquire a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering. I am interested in designing aircraft as opposed to subsystems, but I am not enthusaistic about the various "system-of-systems" approach that essentially works to make new aero design codes(as opposed to new aero...
How do you feel about this? Good idea? Bad?
I pursued this option in the mechanical engineering depart for which I am majoring into simultaneously graduate with both degrees in 4 years of coursework. The idea was immediately rejected by the graduate committee. The physics department however...
In biology or chemistry I have always heard it is either PhD or B.S. degree that determines your career & responsibilities. If you get the M.S. you are considered not much different than someone with a B.S. and a few years of work experience.
However I want to look into masters that actually...
Hello people,
I am a physics major in Canada, and I was just wondering if its possible to make the switch to aerospace engineering after doing a bachelor's in physics. Will I just have to take a couple of extra courses? or will I have to get a bachelor's in Aerospace as well...
~~~~Guidance needed!~~~~
When someone applies for masters to any U.S. University, does it matters if he/she has written research paper(s) ? Does it makes a difference if he/she had worked on some ( or many ) technical projects which involved sort of research ? or both of them? Or just one of...
Option 1: BSc(with Honours) (4 years) ---> PhD(overseas)
Option 2: BSc(with Honours) (4 years) ---> MSc (1 year) ---> PhD(overseas)
Until now I was considering taking option 1, but when I talked with my supervisor recently he advised me option2 with his reasons being:
1. For someone...
I would like to teach math at a community college somewhere in the US, would getting a masters in pure mathematics be sufficient to get such a job? When I say job, I mean a full-time (year-round with or without summers) position. When I say sufficient, I mean would it be easy (or maybe I...
I've been doing research into the field as a possible career, and I usually see careers in the post-Bachelor and post-Master's catagories, but not post-Doctorate. Is a Master's degree what's usually required for the higher paying jobs in the industry, or do most require a Phd?
