Masters athletics is a class of the sport of athletics for athletes of over 35 years of age. The events include track and field, road running and cross country running. Competitors are bracketed into five-year age groups (which promotes fair competition). For international events the first age group is 35 to 39. Men as old as 105 and women in their 100s have competed in running, jumping and throwing events. Masters athletes are sometimes known as "veterans" and the European Masters Championships, for instance, is known as "Eurovets." This and other high level events including biennial World Championships cater largely to elite-level athletes, but many masters athletes are novices to athletics and enjoy the camaraderie offered by masters competition at the local, National and International level. Most National governing bodies for track and field hold annual Masters championships. Prestigious National meets such as the Penn Relays and the United States Olympic Trials (track and field) put on exhibition events for top masters athletes. Masters athletics is growing Internationally with over 6000 athletes competing at recent World Championships. World; National and Regional records are maintained for each age group.
In the United States, USATF (USA Track & Field) hosts various Masters events including National Championships for Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field and Cross Country. USATF adds the age divisions 30-34 as Sub-Masters, and 25-29 as Pre-Masters to give athletes just past college age more opportunities to compete.
Hello,
I am studying in Canada and I am about to graduate with a competitive GPA.

Hello PF,
So in my country (Lebanon), we have this French system of education where masters come after Bsc. and then you can consider the Ph.D. position. Apparently, this is not the case in the US and one can get into a graduate program with just the Bsc.
I know they are equivalent but if...
I graduated a few years ago with a Biology Major and Physics Minor. After completing a M.Ed. I have decided to apply to physics masters/bridge programs and have been discussing it with old advisers who were very encouraging. I was hoping someone else had switched fields and could give me some...
Hi all.
I was wondering if anyone out there in the PF community, themselves or knew someone who is working on a masters degree in Applied Physics, online, from Johns Hopkins.
I've never heard of upper level physics classes like the ones listed, being done online. Thoughts?
..in a taught masters (UK).
My undergrad project was a literature review on general relativity
The topic of my project this summer (3 months) will be modified theories of gravity & cosmology.
How do you go about doing some original work at this level?
- would the first step be to identify a...

Greetings All,
So I've received my first round of rejections from schools, and I must admit I am a bit surprised.
This is my second degree, with my first being in EE from 12 years ago. At that time I had pretty
severe (and documentable) mental health issues, and this really held me back...
Hey everyone,
At present, I'm trying to determine whether I should pursue a masters degree in health physics vs medical physics in pursuit of a career in radiation safety. From what I've seen in RSO job postings, requirements can vary rather widely depending on the institution, state...
I'm looking at Civil and Architectural engineering for the 2 bachelors in dual degree fashion. But would the graduate degree most likely civil/structural be better suited or do the 2 degrees compliment each other enough? At my school (OkSt) there is 3 different focuses for architectural...
I’m looking into enrolling in a part-time online data science-related masters program, and am looking for suggestions/feedback on which ones to consider. Some might consider those a waste of time and money and I can just self study, but given that, I would like to still pursue this to get a...
Hello,
I always had in mind to complete a masters program with the thesis option in civil engineering.
However, I have become skeptical of this option as I am not sure how relevant it will be in terms of design in the "real" world or how the research I will do is ever going to be used by...
Hello. So, I went to school and got my BA in a degree not at all related to science. I graduated in 2012 and have been working in my filed since then. I enjoy the work mostly but have recently been feeling a lack of satisfaction in my profession.
