Masters athletics is a class of the sport of athletics for athletes of over 35 years of age. The events include track and field, road running and cross country running. Competitors are bracketed into five-year age groups (which promotes fair competition). For international events the first age group is 35 to 39. Men as old as 105 and women in their 100s have competed in running, jumping and throwing events. Masters athletes are sometimes known as "veterans" and the European Masters Championships, for instance, is known as "Eurovets." This and other high level events including biennial World Championships cater largely to elite-level athletes, but many masters athletes are novices to athletics and enjoy the camaraderie offered by masters competition at the local, National and International level. Most National governing bodies for track and field hold annual Masters championships. Prestigious National meets such as the Penn Relays and the United States Olympic Trials (track and field) put on exhibition events for top masters athletes. Masters athletics is growing Internationally with over 6000 athletes competing at recent World Championships. World; National and Regional records are maintained for each age group.
In the United States, USATF (USA Track & Field) hosts various Masters events including National Championships for Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field and Cross Country. USATF adds the age divisions 30-34 as Sub-Masters, and 25-29 as Pre-Masters to give athletes just past college age more opportunities to compete.
After taking a couple classes on programming (I know, CS isn't just programming) and an upper division intro to combinatorics, I'd like to get more into the area of discrete mathematics. I hope to pursue a PhD at some point, but I'm not sure how strong of a school I can get into since currently...
I'm interested in what the possibilities are for physics grads regarding masters studies, specifically for those not continuing with physics. I know that engineering is an option, but that's a bit vague. It's such a big field and I would like to specialise anyway (part of my reason for giving up...
Hi I would be grateful for some advice
I graduated two years ago from Cambridge with a Pass (nowhere near high marks) in PartIII and I finished my Bsc with first class honours. I've tried getting a PhD placement at several universities in the UK with no success. I am thinking about trying...
Dilemma? -- Am I cut out to pursue masters in physics
I'm in my life at a juncture where i have eagerness and enthusiasm to pursue masters in physics but due to prior experience I'm a bit reluctant. I enrolled for masters in physics 2 years back but dropped out in the final year due to...
Greetings PF.
I was thinking about going for a dual masters degree with one in physics and one in mathematics. Note that I'm not American, I'm currently in Europe and as such I'd guess it's almost like a double major. To me it felt like such a couple of degrees were a natural choice, but...
Hi,
I've recently started a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering. I've never taken on a research project before and I've been recommended to look into the area of Metal Additive Manufacturing as it's an area that's quickly developing.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a...
Hello friends..I'm an electronics engineering student from India and I would like to pursue masters in theoretical physics(particle physics) in a good university abroad...what are my options??Does my engineering gpa matter for physics masters admission??I hope to get a reply soon...
hello friends, i am an indian student with a 3 year BSc in physics interested in pursuing research in theoretical physics. I want to do masters from abroad. What are the countries/universities which recognise a three year bachelors degree? please guide...
While browsing through one of the AIP's relatively recent publications (written in 2012 concerning the classes of 2009/2010) I found some information I thought was out of line with the common conception that masters-only students are rarely if ever funded. According to the publication (see page...
I am a senior math major and my goal is to get into a top 20 PhD program. Right now I do not feel competitive enough to get into those schools, so I am pursuing a masters degree first.
I'm applying to these schools:

Hi,
I am into my pst graduation in Physics. And I would like someone to guide me in ho w to master this subject from basic level to the advanced level. What are the main topics one should know very well to start over this subject. It's applications as well.
Thank You!
hey all
ill make this quick. i am planning on going to graduate school for aerospace engineering but am faced with a dilemma: do a specialize in fluids, controls, or fluids?
i ask you this question because i honestly enjoy all of these areas about the same, so it seems logical to go into...
So I am currently going to be entering my 3rd year of an Applied Math BS at Fresno Pacific University (I know its a nobody school but I am there for athletics). I have always wanted to do engineering but my school does not offer it. I was wondering if having an Applied Math BS and getting a...
I have a question. If one decides to enroll in a terminal masters program (such as one designed for students with a full time job), then later leaves industry to pursue a PhD, how would that look on a PhD admittance committe vs taking the usual route of getting a masters with thesis first? Is...
I understand that a graduate certificate is a lot less involved and expensive than a Masters degree. What would be the difference in holding a masters in mechanical engineering verse a graduate certificate in mechanical engineering? How would the pay offs compare in salary and employability...
I recently graduated with a bachelors in Mechanical Engineering Technology and I want to pursue a masters in an actual engineering discipline (not technology) or possibly physics. I know that a large majority of physics majors go on to work as engineers but they also have other options like...
I have done my Undergrad in Electrical Engineering and I have close to 8 Years of work experience in PCB design and mostly in Validation. I have done Signal Integrity and bit of Power Integrity validation for boards.
I would like to move towards Signal and Power Integrity field. In that case...

I'm a biomedical engineering student interested in computational neuroscience, "the neural code" and systems neuroscience to be more concrete. The problem is in my country Mexico, master's degrees either focus in the mathematical side or the biological. What would be better to study a master's...
I would like to get my Masters in EE, but I would just like to make sure that I can get a job in the field with a bachelors in...microbiology. Or would employers think of this as a deficit, preferring to see a solid foundation with a BS in EE instead?
Thanks
Looking at some German/Swiss masters programs (mainly computational mechanics in Stuttgart, München, Lausanne) but having a tough time figuring out the admission process for international students. Do they generally only look at your bachelor's degree GPA and nothing else or does other stuff...

Hi,
I am interested in getting a Masters in Physics at a US graduate school. I always thought that getting a Masters was an incidental event on the way to getting a Ph.D., but apparently it is possible to just go for the Masters. Does anyone know anything about this? Are there lists of...
Has anyone here done a masters in computational physics?
I am doing a double major in computer science and physics and it was always my intention to combine both fields for a career.
I am basically finished with my CS degree and I have a very valuable internship at a large IT company doing...
It seems to me, and correct me if I am wrong, that someone with a masters in physics has just as much concrete knowledge of physics as someone who has a PhD (generally). After you get a masters you have pretty much taken all the courses one could take right? The next step is to APPLY the...
Hello, I'm nearing the end of my first year as an undergrad in physics at a Russell group university. I'm currently registered on the Bsci course, straight physics. I'm interested in theoretical particle physics, and if (as I hope to do) a phd I think that's what I would like to do it in.

I'm in the 3rd year of my BSc Physics degree in the UK and have decided that I think I'd like to do a Masters too. For background info, I should graduate with a solid First (+70%) and I probably won't go on to do a PhD.
My options at the moment are either switch to the 4 year course at the...

If you were getting a PhD in either pure math or physics, with the intention of becoming a professor, does one first need to get a masters degree before their PhD, is it different for the two fields?
I am currently a sophomore in college majoring in Physics. I was wondering after my undergraduate can I skip my Masters and move onto my PhD ,if so how much of a risk would it be? I honestly don't want to end up teaching as a career ,but rather be researching instead. All I really know right now...
