Masters athletics is a class of the sport of athletics for athletes of over 35 years of age. The events include track and field, road running and cross country running. Competitors are bracketed into five-year age groups (which promotes fair competition). For international events the first age group is 35 to 39. Men as old as 105 and women in their 100s have competed in running, jumping and throwing events. Masters athletes are sometimes known as "veterans" and the European Masters Championships, for instance, is known as "Eurovets." This and other high level events including biennial World Championships cater largely to elite-level athletes, but many masters athletes are novices to athletics and enjoy the camaraderie offered by masters competition at the local, National and International level. Most National governing bodies for track and field hold annual Masters championships. Prestigious National meets such as the Penn Relays and the United States Olympic Trials (track and field) put on exhibition events for top masters athletes. Masters athletics is growing Internationally with over 6000 athletes competing at recent World Championships. World; National and Regional records are maintained for each age group.
In the United States, USATF (USA Track & Field) hosts various Masters events including National Championships for Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field and Cross Country. USATF adds the age divisions 30-34 as Sub-Masters, and 25-29 as Pre-Masters to give athletes just past college age more opportunities to compete.
After I finish my bachelor studies (Physics in general) I will have to choose a two-year Masters course. Sadly, I cannot continue in doctoral studies, mainly because of money... I will need pretty much money, so working in a finance world may be good for me after finishing school. Changing my...
I am curious to know if someone from a physics Masters program at a state school (high GPA, excellent research) has the the same chance of admission to Harvard, Princeton, or MIT PhD program vs someone with similar stats from undergraduate. How hard is it to get into top 10 schools from Master's...
I am a second year engineering student currently enrolled in an undergrad dual degree program in BITS Pilani , India. I'm doing M.Sc (Hons.) Biology and B.E (Hons.) Chemical engineering which constitutes a 5 year long course. I am really interested in pursuing a masters degree in physics in the...

Hello everyone!
Being new to the community, this is my first thread...
What i need to inquire is that which US universities offer a terminal
masters program in physics?
Thanks in advance.
Abhishek
I graduated with a degree in civil engineering in Dec 2010, but only after realizing a year prior that I would rather study physics, so now I'm considering going back to school. I'll be honest, the only CE class that interested me was fluid dynamics and I put as little effort into my other...
Significance of "En-route" Masters?
I am a first year Ph.D. student in Optical Science & Engineering. I have a B.S. Physics (Honors). I started doing research in Jan. of 2009. I started the Ph.D. program in Jan. of 2011. Currently I am still doing research for the same Prof. I started with in...
I'm an undergraduate biomedical physics major going into my senior year. I've been really interested in going the medical physics route, but was only interested in doing that for two years to get my master's rather than Ph.D. Now with all the CAMPEP accreditation and residency stuff, I've...
how much money did you receive for graduate funding
are you in math or physics/masters or phd
are you in Canada or the United States or somewhere else
and what do you think is average, below average, above average for a domestic masters student per year?
how do they make the decision...
Good afternoon everyone. I have done a little forum searching, and have not been able to find an answer to my question. I am currently pursuing my B.S. in Physics and am trying to plan out my future a little bit more. I truly love Physics, it is my passion, but I have also come to really love...
Aside from chemical engineering or biophysics, to what extent do physics and engineering masters programs require you to have had a second semester in inorganic chemistry? Thanks.
i'm committed to getting a phd but my undergrad career is lackluster (~3.7 gpa, pure math major physics minor, no research experience, peace corps math teacher, yet to take either gre) so i was thinking about getting a masters and doing research while completing the masters. i know people have...
I'm debating pretty heavily with myself whether to continue with my education. I really would like to but the main problem is my age and that fact that I'm a woman with a body clock to consider. It will have taken me 8 years to get my B.S. in Physics minoring in Mathematics in Spring 2013. I...
Hey
I didnt know where to put this
so the masters projects we can do for next year came out ..
but I am not really interested in any of them
However we can propose projects
So i was thinking if anyone could lead me in the right direction
Im want something in either COSMOLOGY or...
In the UK, following the Bologna process, any undergrad degree taking 4 years, assuming sufficient amount of credits is obtained, one is awarded a Masters degree. A 3 year course results in a bachelors. Why is it that in the US, one is awarded with BS after 4 years of study? Is it because of the...
Ok I posted a rather lengthy question yesterday which hasn't been responded to yet lol so I'll summarize. I got a BSMET from RIT in 2007. After working a few years, I've realized the career direction I want to take. I'm incredibly interested in the aerospace industry, and also entertaining...
I am thinking about applying for grad school in the US (Chicago to be exact) and I have some questions.
First of all, some background. In 10 months I will have a masters degree from University of Iceland. A masters degree here is one year of graduate level courses (60 ECTS) and one year of...
Hai, am doing final year B.Sc physics hons from Delhi University. I have got 70% in the first two years. What are my chances of getting into good foreign universities in Europe and also at NUS. I am also interested in computational physics. Please help.. Thanks in advance
I am an undergraduate mathematics major considering two different options that would lead me to complete a PhD degree in mathematics. I would like advice on my considerations.
Option 1) Complete a MS degree, then apply for a PhD program at a better school.
(I understand that by not applying...
I wanted to be more specific in my title, but the space was limited, my question is can one get a masters or a phd in an engineering which is different from the one they got a bachelors in?
For example up here in Canada i think 2 schools offer an aerospace engineering program at the bachelor...
I'll have a masters in applied physics this summer. I have a bachelor's in bio-medical physics. I've recently started getting interested in medical physics. Is it possible to get into the field with this masters. I wouldn't be averse to taking some extra courses if it was necessary.
Thanks
Hi everyone. Straight to the point: this summer I will finish my BSc studies in Physics and so I need to choose specialty to study for my MSc degree. (University of Tartu, Estonia, EU, it's 3 years for BSc and 2 more for MSc). Unfortunately I don't seem to have a certain field of interest. I...
Can one apply to the US grad school and skip masters level courses to start working on PhD in the first year? Because in Europe, masters degree is usually obtained instantly after undergrad, whereas PhD level studies are separated. One really wouldn't want after obtaining masters and getting...
Hi,

I seem to get mixed messages when it comes to the requirements one needs to teach at a college. I'm not talking about a research position at university. Like, at the smaller private colleges or something. I've heard that all you need to become a professor at such an institution is usually a...
I was wondering if anyone thinks it possible to do two masters degrees? Perhaps not at once but staggered by a year?
I was thinking of a masters in engineering and applied mathematics.
Friends, I have completed BE in automotive engineering recently and now planning to do masters in engineering from a university in Australia.
Will u please recommend me the fields that would be relevant with my bachelors degree and also as in good demand .
I am thinking on going for...

Masters in some sort of "Energy" discpline
Currently I am in the final year of a 3 year degree in Physics, and I have decided I would prefer to do something much more practical.
I would like to get into the energy industry, as such I am looking to apply to universities offering Masters...
Hey . I am a first year engineering student at BITS pilani , India. I've had this gnawing concern for a while about the scope for pursuing a masters in physics(Ideally , in the states) with a B.E in mechanical engineering(or electrical, haven't decided on my engineering stream yet) and an MSC in...
What degree would provide me more job offers and have more potential? A second bachelor's in electrical engineering (I have a bachelor's in pure mathematics) or a masters in applied physics (where I would have to take a few undergraduate physics classes in order to get me up to speed)?
Thanks!

So I am currently studying BSc Physics. I am going to study MSc Financial Mathematics. But what I want to know if it looks bad if I have a masters and a bachelors from the same university on my CV rather than having two universities? i.e. will it look better to employers if I have done a masters...
is this a bad practice? if my GPA does not look high enough for grad school, I may stay and get my masters at my undergrad university, and then look to get a PhD elsewhere.
I am a student doing Bachelors studies in Physics at a reputed university in India. I am presently in 5th semester of my course and I desire to do my masters course in the same subject in Germany. I will be obliged if someone helps me out in this matter by suggesting the names of competent...

What should I get my bachelor's degree in if I want to major in physics? I plan to get my masters degree in physics, and probably a phd in physics after that. Should I major in math or physics? Or something else?
(On a side note, how much money do physicists employed by the government make...
I am interested in studying mechatronics in my masters level. Please, how can I go about it?
I learn't that machatronics is studied as a course under aeronautics. How true is that.
I stay in Nigeria, and here, we don't have aeronautic engineering, let alone mechatronics, nor robotic...
Hi all,
I got my BS in EE 2 years ago. I started working for this company but I feel that I'm going nowhere. All I do is test and I hate it. I was thinking of going back and getting my Masters in EE because ultimately I would like to do design. I made the mistake of not taking any...
Hey all,
I'm currently facing a difficult decision about the next step in my academic career and I was wondering if anyone here might be able share any insights or perhaps explain how they got through a similar situation.
Sorry in advance for a long post, no need to read the whole thing...
Hi all,
I've made a few topics about my future master. Now the time has come for me to really decide and I still don't know. It's either nuclear physics of cellular biophysics. I'm very interested in both of them, but it's a huge decision I'm making and as always with big decisions I'm...
So next year I am graduating with a BSc Physics. Just wondering if having a masters in Mathematics will actually help employment prospects? Or would a phD be more worth while?
Thanks
Hello,
My name's Konrad (don't let the username fool you! haha). I'm currently a junior in Aeronautical Engineering (Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University) with a minor in Air Traffic Management. I was planning on just ending school with a Bachelors and going right out to work. However, I've...
Is it possible to do 3 masters degrees at the same time if they are all mutually relevant and the courses overlap enough? I am finally going to college after 3 years of being out of high school. In that time, I've learned enough about undergrad physics, chemistry and math so I'm safe for the...
Noob questions on behalf of my daughter, who graduates with a BS in Physics from a research uni next semester and has a decidedly deer-in-the-headlights approach to post-graduate career path. 3.3 GPA in a program with a fair bit of chemistry/biochem/biophysics experience (contemplated MD/PhD...
