Hi, I'm not so well informed on plastics and chemistry to them but I need help finding a plastic that will fit the purposes of my need and uses.
I'm looking for a plastic that is clear and elastic(doesn't have to be very elastic), or is the word I'm looking for plasticity, I'm not really sure...
Plastic thing that will spin only one way!? Wtf?
Has anyone a clue how this works?
In the video, the guy demonstrates a piece of plastic that will spin only one way. Just look at the video, you will see what I mean. It's really impressive, and I must know how it works!
It's at about 4...

when it comes to determine if a material is hydrophobic or hydrophilic, from what I know it is determined by the nonpolar or polar properties of the molecule. water is polar which as there is no neutral electron balance
between atoms and one side of H2O is negative charge...
plastic conductor?
I just tooned into the end of a segment on "daily planet" about this guy who found out a way to create a plastic conductor. He says it conducts electricity as well as a metal wire and is very light weight (and will literally change the world of electronics).
Anyone have...
Should disposable plastic shopping bags be banned in New York - they get stuck in trees and all over the place? Wouldn't it be better for the environment if we were all made to bring our own reuseable bags to shops - just like we did years ago?
How well does ABS plastic stand up to the elements? Normally I would not choose this for outdoor use but I am unable to find the type of enclosure I want in anything except ABS.

Our teacher wants us to construct a speaker that can provide sound (that can be heard from anywhere within the classroom) when connected to wires that are hooked up to some sort of device. I'm unsure of where to start and where to get the supplies. Since we are on the magnetism course, I know...

A very thin sheet of plastic (n = 1.45) covers one slit of a double-slit apparatus illuminated by 570 nm light. The center point on the screen, instead of being a maximum, is dark. What is the (minimum) thickness of the plastic?

My hottub has a leak in its high pressure plastic plumbing. I've replaced what parts I can but am having trouble locating the leak since I have to drain the tub completely to examine it.
Can anyone suggest a dye or something that will allow me to locate the leak even after the water is...
I've been looking for some kind of strong transparent/translucent Silicone RTV to make some small strong plastic prototype parts.
So far I've only found stuff like smooth-on, but there should be something stronger out there.. I think..
Does anyone know a material that would fit my need...
Why is plastic flow promoted by large algebraic differences in the principal stress components, whereas fracture is promoted by a large algebraic sum of these stresses?
Greetings,
Earlier this afternoon I managed to ruin a perfectly good plastic container in a microwave oven by unwittingly deforming it. I curious as to why it happened.
All I did was warm it (and the chilli inside it) for about a minute with the lid firmly secure. I've been told this was a...
I was doing some research online, about making plastic, and I came across a tutorial explaining how you can use milk and vinegar to make plastic.
I basically want to be able to make sheets or molds of objects.
I don't really know what questions to ask, I don't really have any background in...
Why is it that when I fill my plastic pure water drinkbottle with chili water from a drink tap, the whole bottle becomes a little wet even if I did not spill water onto the bottle?
A plastic pipe has an inner radius of a = 35.00 cm and an outer radius of b = 71.00 cm. Electric charge is uniformly distributed over the region a < r < b. The charge density in this region is 30.00 C/m3
A)Calculate the magnitude of the electric field at r = 0.44 m.
B)Calculate the...
At my work the students are supposed to keep their student IDs on them at all times and show them to whom ever is at the entrance when they come through so we know that they are students. Now my boss doesn't seem to really care whether or not we know they are students, he wants us checking...

Does anyone know a good product that will glue plastics back together? The plastic is... well... pretty much the kind you'll find on, oh, let's just say, my mothers computer case. It also needs to set somewhat fast because i'd have to hold things in place
And while we're at it, does...

the reason i ask is that i will be getting some tools cryo'd and am wondering if it will affect the plastic and rubber?
im thinkin i should also take out springs as it may make them too stiff?
any help would be great!
I have some crystallized sodium hydroxide drain cleaner that I want to use on my bathroom sink drain, but I just put in a plastic drain and the trap is plastic as well. The clog is past the trap, somewhere deeper. So will the NaOH be alright with the plastic? Not sure exactly what kind of...
Dear all,
I got a problem to justify the stacking height of bottles crates where locate at the public area.
As you may see the attached photo and draft as reference. The pattern of stacks like 4x10, 4x9, 4x8...(horizontal placement) or 2x10, 2x9, 2x8... (vertical placement)...
can a radar detect a plastic object? could the uhf and microwave signals be reflected by the target if it's made of plastic material? please give justifications
thanks.
1.Will a charge be induced on a plastic-made object if a charged metal is put near it?
2.Is the sharing of charge between two conductor(placed on a insulator) is considered as a current?
I think charge can be induced similar to the way in which charged is induced in water. But, I am not...
Recently i got an offer from a company which asked for finite element analysis
and design of ultrasonic welded plastic parts. I didn't know that but nevertheless i want to study that. Can anybody help?
Ok,
I was getting ready to go fishing the other day, when i noticed that my plastic sinker container was melted, but i didn't know how. I then noticed a type of artificial bait (powerbait to be exact) seemed to be the culprit. I did not know how this could have happened, being that i didn't...
This is for my Hard SF world so the questions aren't limited to today's technology level, just someday.
How plausible is a plastic explosive 50 times more powerful than C4?
Is C4 even the strongest chemical explosive per amount?
What does the speed of the burning of the explosive have to do...
I wasn't sure whether to put this in bio or chem, so I put it in bio.
Environmentalists always argue that plastic takes thousands of years to break down, so is there any way to turn large amounts of plastic into something that doesn't harm the environment? Are certain bacteria able to break...

I am designing a machine called a Ring Expander. Simply put, it's a machine used in metal forging operations to stretch metal rings (15 x 15cm cross section, 30cm inside diameter, 60cm outside diameter) by about 20mm on the diameter. It does this by forcing a cone through a set of jaws, which...
What are some of the more unusual planetary compositions you can imagine? I envisioned a planet embodying exuded, colorful petro-plastics - like a "Lego Land." Earth itself is pretty strange with its lifeforms. I guess science fiction is replete with creative orbs.
Hi, I'm doing a project where I need to find the velocity after penetrating a certain thickness of polycarbonate. What equations do I use to find this. Thanks
I remember learning that in mixtures if the particles were small enough light would go through and make it trasparent, my question is how/does this relates to things like glass or trasparent plastic? What at the molecular level makes something transparent?
Hello!
I'm making some home-made capacitors for an up-coming lab, and I was thinking of using Market Basket/DeMoulas' plastic kitchen bags as a dielectric. I'm really hoping to use it because the packaging info includes the thickness of the bag (19 micrometers), which should increase the...
You go to the store, make a purchase, proceed to pay and what does the clerk do? They take out a pen and "mark" your twenty, or ten, etc. Makes you feel like a criminal. Plastic money? HMMMM, I am not really a fan of it. It is easier in some respects using your debit card, etc. The problem...
A question,
I have a plastic disc with a coil wound around is axis of rotation. The coil carries current I. Now the disc carries charges at its circumference. Now the current flowing in the coil is brought to 0 instantaneously. This creates Electric Field to be produced that travel in...
