Which of these first quarter 2008 papers/presentations do you expect to contribute most to future research?

This is Rovelli's report at the March 2008 Zakopane...
Where are you from
Sorry for the mess. This one will be correct.
Let's do it like that. As the poll is not public anymore I suggest that IF you post where you are coming from in this thread, I'll collect your names and mae a list which I edit in into this post.
Here goes the list (including...
I'm getting to that age where I have to get a prostate exam. would you rather have a member of the same sex but with big hands or a member of the opposite sex with little hands as a doctor?
*** CLICK HERE TO VOTE ***
So, for the last few years I've been doing this "Game of the Year" poll with this voting script I made. This poll is different from most polls you've seen-- in normal polls like this you have maybe five or so options, and you pick the one you like best. This poll...
Not sure where exactly this belongs, so I thought I'd try GD. Note that I have no clue as to the actual answer is, but I"m interested in what people's opinions are.
What mp3 system (hardware/software) do you have?
What mp3 system (hardware/software) do you recommend?
My criteria and (possibly unfounded) concerns, in case you want to address them:
- some systems (such as iTunes) might be propietary, forcing me to "lock in" to the software - and...
Here are the forecasts we made in September about the Smolin/string salesrank ratio as of noon on 1 October (pacific time).

The prediction of Hurk4 (which seemed quite unreasonable to me at the time) turned out to be right after...
The previous attempt had a couple of glaring omissions. Here is a corrected version of the third quarter Most Influential Paper forecast. I missed the Aastrup Grimstrup paper when it came out in 2006, so am including it now as better late than never.

What's your pick for the most important paper from among second quarter 2007 non-string quantum gravity research? This short list was narrowed down from a larger number of paper which were flagged by several PF people this time, including Francesca, Jal, and myself. Papers that appear in latter...
I am working on research project on the topic of the quality of education in Canada and the U.S. I was hoping to collect some raw data from university/college students so please answer the poll as honestly as possible. All information will remain anonymous.
I will be posting 3 polls, this is...
I don't know about the demographics of those who voted in this poll, but it appears that 87% want Bush to be impeached. I hope it isn't set up so people can vote twice or more. That would be too much like the 04 election.

I am not a Bush fan...
Hello!
Just for fun I thought I would ask what everyone's opinions are on what the most useful 4 year degree is nowadays. Let's say any 4 year b.s. arts or science, doesn't matter. Most useful meaning: well, you could take in account most jobs, or most pay, if that's what you think is most...
What mass will the lightest Higgs found in the next three years have?
No Higgs found in next three years,
Below 114 GeV
114-130 GeV
130-150 Gev
150-180 GeV
180-220 Gev
220-360 Gev
Above 360 GeV
Notes:
1. MSSM Higgs predicted less than 130 GeV, non supersymmetric SM Higgs probably...
I want to take an unscientific poll on the number of students in the technical fields now vs. the recent past. This is engineering and the sciences (please indicate which field of engineering or science).
If you all would be so kind, could you indicate the relative number and quality of...
This is the follow-up question.
Assuming that there is a warming trend, please give your opinion as to the human contribution to this trend. Once again, I would hope that the opinion is informed and not fanciful or political.
Sorry if none of these match your true opinion, but please choose...
I am seriously curious as to our collective opinion on this "devisive" issue. I am hoping people will vote according to their informed opinion (rather than what they hope is true, or what the pundits of their political persuasions are saying). The poll comes in two parts. This is part one.
Do...
poll: define 'forgive and forget'
This is a poll - but I can't make the answers fit into radio buttons. i.e. I'd like as many responses as possible, even if they're very short.
What is your literal understanding of the intent of the phrase 'forgive and forget'? What do the words in the...
This poll presents these options "I experience life as a physical phenomenon" and "I experience life as a non - physical phenomenon" and will include the obligatory third option of "all of the above" and the 4th choice "I experience life in a way other than physical, non-physical and not...
It's almost midterms again, so we might as well start looking forward to the '08 primaries. As the poll asks: which of these candidates would you least not dislike to vote for? In other words, which one are you most likely to support opponents of?
What's Your Linux Distribution?
I have just started learning the ropes with Ubuntu, and haven't yet tried others. If you're a Linux user (home/work/uni/wherever), which 'distro' is your favourite?
If you use a variant of a particular distro (for example, Kubuntu), please say so. You can also...
This is amazing, why has his approval rating suddenly jumped up?
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President George W. Bush's approval rating has rebounded to 44 percent, the highest level in a year, in the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, the newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Bush's approval rating...
Ok guys, this is the poll. Is there only a very small minority of educated people that are AGW skeptics? Global warming skeptics? I think most of us here are aquainted with the subject's aire de academia, but, please vote only if you know more than what was served to you on a silver platter...
the third quarter is July thru September
by the end of this month we will have some perspective on the non-string QG research posted this quarter--or at least we'll know what was posted.
What research do you think should be nominated for third quarter "MIP" ("most influential paper") so far...
First off, let me put my little disclaimer out there:
There are thousands, if not millions, of factors which influence approval ratings/poll numbers. I am not saying that this effect, if found to exist, is decisive. Additionally, this is not a political potshot or dig against anybody. Poll...
A poll to see what your gas milage is.
I will start:
Car: 98 Accord 4-door
Engine: Straight-4
Gas milage (when it was gasoline): ~25mpg.
Gas milage (now that we have 10% ethanol) ~21mpg.
I lost roughly 4-5 miles for every gallon now that we are using 10% ethanol in our gasoline...
Just pretend I'm from another planet and am learning the basics on Earth.
If you buy head lettuce from the grocery, do you rinse it before putting it on your bread? What you do with it in other circumstances (such as making a whole salad) is another matter.
the results in this case are very simple. Over a dozen of us guessed
as to whether (understood "in a reasonable time") Loll's team would be able to extend the sum-over-topologies result from 2D to 3D and ultimately to 4D.
Of the 12 people who registered a forecast, and are still forum members...
Just wish to draw your attention to what some of us in Hong Kong think about the protocal blunders on the part of the White House in its reception of Hu.

Please post suggestions for what could turn out to be "Most Influential Paper" that you see between now and June.
We just had a 1st quarter 2006 M.I.P. forecast poll and 11 people responded by indicated which of 6 papers they predicted to be the most valuable for future research. Those were 6...

Did you understand the "work for no pay" poll?
Russ is saying you didn't understand what I was asking. I think some of you didn't, but most of you did.
So did you? Private poll, answer yes or no.
Ok here's the situation:
You live next door to couple that has 2.3 children, 2 cars, etc etc blah blah normal people right? Let's say that you notice the wife/woman has bruises on her a lot and you always hear screaming coming from the house. You know the man is an alcoholic as well. How...
So I thought I'd start one here. This is where all the fun is anyway.
Hmmm... what's a good poll question.
OK... This is modified from the internet. Google is my friend.

that is essentially in the first two full months (aug and sept) that it was posted it would...
In this thread, I got a lot of different replies on exactly how to interpret Bell's theorem. Some suggested relativity must be wrong; others suggested Bell's inequality might not disprove locality, but some other assumption Bell made (such as an assumption based on the existence of a reality)...
Was the 2004 US election rigged?
Specifically, do you think the machines could be and were tampered with, in order to skew a result in favor of Bush.
This is not a question about other forms of vote - tampering (disenfranchisement, etc).
I am also curious for the correlation between your...
I saw this question on Swordfish (awesome movie!) and wanted to ask a variation of it here.
If you had the chance to permanently cure all diseases, but the price of doing this was that you had to kill a child, would you? How bout 100, how bout 10,000?
[Poll] Should highly biased art be placed in US government buildings
So what do you think? Should partisan artwork be allowed in government buildings such as court houses, libraries, and the DMV (or as its more popularly known as, hell).
And to clarify, artwork that would be considered a...
