Sir Roger Penrose (born 8 August 1931) is a British mathematician, mathematical physicist, philosopher of science and Nobel Laureate in Physics. He is Emeritus Rouse Ball Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford, an emeritus fellow of Wadham College, Oxford, and an honorary fellow of St John's College, Cambridge, and University College London.Penrose has made contributions to the mathematical physics of general relativity and cosmology. He has received several prizes and awards, including the 1988 Wolf Prize in Physics, which he shared with Stephen Hawking for the Penrose–Hawking singularity theorems, and one half of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics "for the discovery that black hole formation is a robust prediction of the general theory of relativity".
Nobel prize winner Roger Penrose has proposed a model for the faith of the universe. When the dark energy has broken up (this is not the correct term, I know) the universe into only photons, time, as proposed by Robert, no longer exists and therefore, space no longer exists. The universe then...
Sir Roger Penrose, famous for his numerous contributions to mathematics and physics, is approaching 90 but still pretty active. In this thread I'll post some of his most recent and best interviews.
The interviews tend to be a mixture of him talking about some new idea of his, his prior academic...
Just started reading this book as an introduction to physics with a background of electrical engineering. It is absolutely fascinating and being new to the forum I'd appreciate it if anyone had any suggestions for further general learning.
Thank you all for inspiring me to learn more physics...
Hi, I've been reading Roger Penrose's Road to Reality during my free time, and I am trying to do all the proofs I possibly can, although I am quickly reaching my limit.
Would somebody help me prove this?
h(x)=0 if x ≤ 0
h(x) = e-1/x if x > 0
Thank you in advance :)
Roger Penrose’s http://press.princeton.edu/titles/10664.html']Fashion,[/PLAIN] Faith and Fantasy in the New Physics of the Universe
"Arguing that string theory has veered away from physical reality by positing six extra hidden dimensions, Penrose cautions that the fashionable nature of a...
Roger Penrose, of course, needs no introduction.
At 85 he is as productive as ever, publishing papers, giving guest lectures. He also has a new book on the way and a kid currently in primary school.
Here is a somewhat recent interview detailing a few aspects of his life.
Happy birthday to you...
Note: This is a question on a particular cosmological scheme, mainly Conformal Cyclic Cosmology.
In Cycles of Time, Penrose says that Black Hole Information Loss causes the entropy to decrease in a way that doesn't violate the 2nd law. I think his analysis is correct, IF it was the case that...
My questions arose when reading an article about artificial intelligence, and the argument of Penrose that says that humans can see the truthfulness of statements that machines cannot. But it doesn't say what those "Godel sentences" are...

What does Sir Roger know that others do not.
Sir Roger Penrose calls string theory a "fashion," quantum mechanics "faith," and cosmic inflation a "fantasy." Coming from an armchair theorist...
I've heard a lot about fine tuning but Roger Penrose on this website
http://www.ws5.com/Penrose/
which is an excerpt from his book the Emperor's New Mind
claims that the phase-space volume must be accurate to within 10^10^123. I can't understand the following lines. If someone could make...
I was wondering if anyone had read this book and if it was a good book to read if you are not familiar with physics. I looked at the book at a bookstore and it seemed lengthy and filled with formulae. However the preface painted a very different picture so I was just wondering what other thought...
Roger Penrose suggests in his new book that the schrodinger cat paradox is an indication of the largest fundamental flaw in science as it now exists. He arrives at the conclusion that the particle/wave duality is not acceptable as a valid reality. Is anyone familiar with any of this? Does anyone...
