This isn't really a problem at all. Have been working on some problems in Mary L Boas' textbook with some difficulty, but I have managed to solve the majority of the questions eventually. However, I've been stumped at how to arrive at the precise answers quoted in the book...
Homework Statement
let A=B+C where B and C are nxn matrices such that C^{2} = 0 and BC=CB show that for p>0, A^{p+1} = B^{p}[B+(p+1)C]I started trying to simplify both sides,
(B+C)^{p+1} = B^{p+1} + B^{p}C(p+1)
wanted to get rid of p so multiplied both sides by C
which gives
C(B+C)^{p+1}...

I am having problems understanding this. Could someone explain how to arrive at the answer for this problem . (-5/2)(x)(x+3)^(-3/2) + (5)(x+3)^(-1/2) Thank you
It says to factor and simplify. Express the answer as a fraction without negative exponents.This is where I get to...

Fraction is:
\frac{1-e^{-x}}{1-e^{x}}
and it's meant to go to:
-e^{-x}
I can't make it look like it needs to. I tried splitting it up but that goes nowhere.
What other strategies are there for simplifying fractions like this?
Thanks for any help.

I have gotten this far:
Using cos(2θ) = 1-tan2θ / 1+tan2θ From a previous question:
Let θ= arctan(x):
cos(2θ) = 1-tan2(arctan(x)) / 1+tan2(arctan(x))
=1-x2 / 1+x2
Where x2 cannot equal 0 or a negative number
Have I done this in the right way and if so is this as far as I can...
can someone show how to simplify \frac{12x+9}{x} = x+9 so that it is in the quadratic form: x^2 -3x -9 = 0
multiplying both sides by x, subtracting both sides by 9 etc. . doesn't give me the quadratic.
\frac{\beta^\alpha \Gamma(\alpha + 1)}{\Gamma (\alpha) \beta^{\alpha+ 1}}
= \frac{\alpha \Gamma (\alpha)}{ \beta \Gamma (\alpha)}

This is the solution. In trying to get the middle expression out of the first I quickly end up with a mess. How should I approach this?
Hi.
I have done this question multiple times and come up with a different answer each time.
Q. 1.) Expand and simplify
(3x-5)^2+(x-4)^2-10(x+4)(x-1)
So far I've gotten
= -72x +1
= 1 - 72x
And some others. Any help would be great.
I have to simplify this equation and express it as a radical at the end.

I can't seem to figure out how to simplify this!
n(n+1)/2 + n+1
which they were able to get (n+1)(n+2)/2 by simplifying that
and this
n(n+1)(2n+6)/6 + (n+1)^2
and they were able to get (n+1)(n+1+1)(2(n+1)+1)/6 out of this one.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

hello
i have to simplify this :
sin(a)sin(b-c) + sin(b)sin(c-a) + sin(c)sin(a-b)
I did simplify it and I got it equal to zero. But my problem is, I did too many steps in order to do that. Does anyone have a shorter way to simplify that ??
thx!
