In electrical engineering, a switch is an electrical component that can disconnect or connect the conducting path in an electrical circuit, interrupting the electric current or diverting it from one conductor to another. The most common type of switch is an electromechanical device consisting of one or more sets of movable electrical contacts connected to external circuits. When a pair of contacts is touching current can pass between them, while when the contacts are separated no current can flow.
Switches are made in many different configurations; they may have multiple sets of contacts controlled by the same knob or actuator, and the contacts may operate simultaneously, sequentially, or alternately. A switch may be operated manually, for example, a light switch or a keyboard button, or may function as a sensing element to sense the position of a machine part, liquid level, pressure, or temperature, such as a thermostat. Many specialized forms exist, such as the toggle switch, rotary switch, mercury switch, push-button switch, reversing switch, relay, and circuit breaker. A common use is control of lighting, where multiple switches may be wired into one circuit to allow convenient control of light fixtures. Switches in high-powered circuits must have special construction to prevent destructive arcing when they are opened.
I am a new user of Multisim and I am trying to make a buck converter. In other softwares, such as pspice I was able to control the switching frequency by editing properties but in Multisim, most of the switches are user interactive. I want to set frequency of 50 Hz in a switch. Kindly help me...

Good day , could someone please point me to a device that would have say two wire terminals and could interrupt the flow of current between them when a dangerous temperature is reached?

I need a switch that will alternate the flow of electrical current between two diverging wires at a decided rate. Are there switches that function this way? What are they called?
I was installing a new bulb with a switch in my house. There was two different ways to connect the bulb and the switch as shown in the picture.
Which one is better and Why?
Hi,
I'm working on a project where I need to use a couple of relays to send an input signal back to the controller. I'm using the 24V supply voltage from the controller to power a spdt switch, but I noticed that if I keep the switch powered for awhile, it gets hot to the touch.

Hello, for a project I'm working on i need a magnet that is attached to a spinning wheel to trigger a magnetic reed switch that's about a cm away every time that the wheel makes a rotation.
I don't know which parts to buy because if the magnet is too weak or the switch too hard to trigger it...
So I'm planning on making the seat belt to work as a kill switch for an automobile using a Reed switch and a magnet. But I'm confused as to whether I should buy or make one. If I should buy it where should I go? Please give me your suggestions as I have to find the most efficient way and I have...

Hello.
Please look at the attached figure first, which is cut image from transistor section of HyperPhysics.
In this circuit, I only need to know base current or base voltage, IB. In order to know this VB must be known but it is already given as 0.6 V. How this value is obtained? I don't think...
Hello,
I'm a non-science major who took a few math classes and has a lot of science AP credit. I was wondering what a career switch to engineering might involve (2nd bachelor's? master's?). What are some ways I could find out more about what it's like to work as an engineer (volunteering? where...

Hi,
I want to apply in Germany for MS in the area of switch mode power supplies design. Any good idea which university offer much courses in this area in English language... I want to apply in university where there is no tuition fee or a very minimum.
I want to switch either a standard AC socket or a USB outlet on and off on a programmed cycle. But although there are many consumer-ready timers available to do this at set times of day, programmable to the minute, I want to be able to randomize the cycles and have it programmable to the second...
In my computer textbook, on one page, its given that switches can't stop traffic from traveling to all other LAN segments.
On the next page, it says that switches send traffic only to appropriate connections.
On a YouTube video, it says both will happen. First it send the packets to all...

I said: A>D=F>B=C>G>H=E
I assumed higher resistance would lead to higher readings. However here are the answers:

Can someone explain to me why this is? As you can see H=E which combined gives a total...
I want to supply some LED's and a motor from an outside source of electricity (i.e. a battery pack, wall outlet, batteries in series, etc.) and want to use the Arduino to be able to "switch" on and off these sources so that I am able to control long strands of LED's with the Arduino (for like a...

Hi, as we all know, the FLRW metric has 3 types of spatial curvatures, spherical, flat, and hyperbolic. I understand that of course due to homogeneity, this curvature must be spatially everywhere the same and so can not depend on the spatial coordinates. However, I can't recall what is the...
