The discussion focuses on the optimal arrangement of five smaller circles within a larger circle, emphasizing the most compact configuration. Participants request additional configurations for various project needs, including linear arrangements and equal spacing around a central point. Suggestions for alternative layouts are welcomed, indicating flexibility in design requirements. The conversation highlights the importance of both compactness and adaptability in circle arrangements. Overall, the exchange fosters collaboration on geometric design solutions.

What is the most compact way of arranging 5 circles inside 1 large circle. If possible, show it by drawing a picture.

@Greathouse

u r truly great, can u suggest some more configurations? I need them for my project.
thanks

I showed the most compact way, any particular restrictions on the others? Examples: 5 circles in a line, or equally spaced about a point.

I think that should work..thanks for the help! :)

Here is a little puzzle from the book 100 Geometric Games by Pierre Berloquin. The side of a small square is one meter long and the side of a larger square one and a half meters long. One vertex of the large square is at the center of the small square. The side of the large square cuts two sides of the small square into one- third parts and two-thirds parts. What is the area where the squares overlap?
