In summary, the speaker is building a computer with an AMD 5950x for simulation purposes. They have found that overclocking all cores limits the tip frequency of high performance cores, but the ASUS AMD AM4 Strix X570 has an "auto" function that limits it on its own. They are asking for recommendations for other motherboards that allow manual voltage changes and suggest checking websites like Tom's hardware for recommendations.

TL;DR Summary
I am building a computer with AMD 5950x. looking a motherboard
I am building a computer with an AMD 5950x which I will be using ONLY for simulation purposes. I've been looking at youtube videos and have found that overclocking all cores limits the tip frequency of high performance cores which his undesirable. ASUS AMD AM4 Strix X570 is the exception to this as it allows you use some "auto" function which limits it on its onw.

My questions are many...

Are there any other motherboard that allow you to change the voltage manually (automatically through software)? Are there any motherboards you would recommend?

FAQ: AMD 5950x: Best Motherboards for Simulation

What makes the AMD 5950x a good choice for simulation?

The AMD 5950x is a top-of-the-line processor with 16 cores and 32 threads, making it an ideal choice for complex simulations. It also boasts a high base clock speed of 3.4GHz and a boost clock speed of up to 4.9GHz, providing fast and efficient performance for simulation tasks.

What kind of motherboard is recommended for the AMD 5950x?

The AMD 5950x is compatible with the AM4 socket, so any motherboard with an AM4 socket will work. However, for optimal performance, it is recommended to pair the processor with a high-end motherboard that supports PCIe 4.0 and has a robust power delivery system.

Can I use a budget motherboard for the AMD 5950x?

While it is possible to use a budget motherboard for the AMD 5950x, it may not provide the best performance and could potentially limit the capabilities of the processor. It is recommended to invest in a higher-end motherboard to fully utilize the power of the 5950x.

Are there any specific features to look for in a motherboard for simulation tasks?

When choosing a motherboard for simulation tasks, it is important to look for features such as multiple PCIe slots for graphics cards and other expansion cards, sufficient RAM slots, and support for high-speed storage devices. Additionally, a strong VRM design and good cooling capabilities are important for sustained performance.

How do I know if a motherboard is compatible with the AMD 5950x?

The AMD 5950x is only compatible with motherboards that have an AM4 socket. Additionally, it is important to check the motherboard's specifications to ensure it supports the processor's power requirements and has the necessary features for your simulation needs.
