Anyone in Industrial Engineering/Operations Research?

There are not many posts relating to IE/OR in this forum, so I started this thread with the hope that current graduate students/doctorates in the field can share some general advice for me (and other IE undergrads).

I am in my junior year, expecting to graduate with first class honors in IE and with a minor in math. I do not study in an American college but hope to do so for postgrad. As far as I know, MIT, Cornell, Purdue, Northwestern and GATech are the big names.

How are the prospects in this field? Any trends in the industry or research to look out for?

What are the major companies that recruit IE/OR graduates? Is there a certain skill set I should focus on while I am still in undergrad? Companies are looking for strong problem solving skills, attention to detail, analytical thinking, and project management skills. In terms of skills, I would recommend focusing on developing an understanding of optimization, simulation, and analytics. Additionally, having a strong foundation in mathematics and computer science can give you a competitive edge when applying for jobs. Finally, it is important to stay up to date on current trends and technologies related to IE/OR.
