30 degrees N of E is interpreted as 30 degrees east of north. The discussion clarifies the directional notation, emphasizing that one should start from the north and then measure 30 degrees towards the east. This interpretation aligns with standard conventions in navigation and vector representation. The community confirms this understanding, providing reassurance for those new to the topic. Clear communication of directional angles is essential in vector discussions.

Rule: start from the left-hand side:

North, then 30º … oooh  … which direction? … ah! … East.

I do not have a good working knowledge of physics yet. I tried to piece this together but after researching this, I couldn’t figure out the correct laws of physics to combine to develop a formula to answer this question. Ex. 1 - A moving object impacts a static object at a constant velocity. Ex. 2 - A moving object impacts a static object at the same velocity but is accelerating at the moment of impact. Assuming the mass of the objects is the same and the velocity at the moment of impact...
