Exploring Summer Job Options Before Electrical Engineering Undergrad

AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on seeking summer job opportunities related to electrical engineering for a student starting an undergraduate program in Fall 2008. The individual expresses frustration with previous summer jobs that involved manual labor and seeks positions that would allow for intellectual engagement, ideally in a field-related capacity. They have completed two years of Cegep, covering subjects such as electromagnetism, mechanics, calculus, and physics, which positions them for roles like lab technician. The individual is looking for recommendations on specific job types, companies to target, and resources for job listings, particularly in the Greater Toronto Area. Northrop Grumman's internship program is mentioned as a potential opportunity, although it requires completion of the first year of college. The overall goal is to find a summer role that aligns more closely with their academic background and future career in engineering.

In Fall 2008, I'm going to start studying for an undergrad in electrical engineering.

I'm getting tired of doing gruntwork for my summer jobs, stuff like painting, being a salesman etc... and I was wondering whether people know about any summer jobs that are somewhat field related that I could look into for this summer.

I realize that I don't have the knowledge to work as a an actual engineer, but I might be able to help with certain things. I'm not straight out of high school as I'm from Quebec and I will have gone through two years of Cegep already (Cegep is kind of like senior year and freshman year combined) so I will have taken E&M, Waves, Mechanics, Calculus 1-3, Linear Algebra, a few Chemistry classes as well as a Mechanical Engineering Physics class which basically involves learning moments, some fluid dynamics and some structural mechanics.

I'm wondering if there's any possibility as far as summer jobs go where I can use my brain a bit. It doesn't have to necessarily be electrical engineering related, but seeing as that's what I'm going into, it would be nice. Something like a lab technician would probably fit the bill.

I'm really just looking to know if anyone can throw out a few places that I could check out. I know a lot of companies have summer internships, or offer something similar to what I'm talking about, but I have no idea where to even start looking.

More specifically, I'm wondering exactly what jobs I might be able to do, what types of companies I should look for and if there are any places that have listings for this kind of stuff.

Northrop Grumman has an internship program for engineers. Their Integrated Systems Internship looks for students studying engineering in lots of disciplines. You need to have completed the first year of college though. Here's a link to their program: http://careers.northropgrumman.com/ExternalHorizonsWeb/college/intern_inte.html"

TL;DR Summary: What topics to cover to safely say I know arithmetic ? I am learning arithmetic from Indian NCERT textbook. Currently I have finished addition ,substraction of 2 digit numbers and divisions, multiplication of 1 digit numbers. I am moving pretty slowly. Can someone tell me what topics to cover first to build a framework and then go on in detail. I want to learn fast. It has taken me a year now learning arithmetic. I want to speed up. Thanks for the help in advance. (I also...
Hi community My aim is to get into research about atoms, specifically, I want to do experimental research that explores questions like: 1. Why do Gallium/Mercury have low melting points 2. Why are there so many exceptions and inconsistencies when it comes to explaining molecular structures / reaction mechanisms in inorganic and organic chemistry 3. Experimental research about fundamental Quantum Mechanics, such as the one being followed by Hiroshima university that proved that observing...
guys i am currently studying in computer science engineering [1st yr]. i was intrested in physics when i was in high school. due to some circumstances i chose computer science engineering degree. so i want to incoporate computer science engineering with physics and i came across computational physics. i am intrested studying it but i dont know where to start. can you guys reccomend me some yt channels or some free courses or some other way to learn the computational physics.
