Hello, I am looking for FDEM software that can do poroelasticity and has a hydraulic solver besides a mechanics solver.
Thank you for notifying me :-)berkeman said:Paging @FEAnalyst
The Finite-Discrete Element Method (FDEM) is a numerical simulation technique used to model the behavior of systems that are composed of both continuous and discontinuous materials. It combines the finite element method (FEM) and the discrete element method (DEM) to accurately model the interaction between solid particles and their surrounding environment.
FDEM software is specifically designed to handle the complex interactions between continuous and discontinuous materials, making it more suitable for simulating systems such as rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and geomechanics. It also allows for the incorporation of fractures and faults, making it a powerful tool for studying geomechanical processes.
Some important features to consider when choosing FDEM software include the ability to handle large deformations, the ability to model complex material behavior, and the ability to incorporate fractures and faults. It is also important to look for software that has a user-friendly interface and provides accurate and reliable results.
Yes, there are several open-source FDEM software options available, such as Yade, LIGGGHTS, and PFC2D. These software packages are free to use and can be modified and customized to fit specific research needs. However, they may have a steeper learning curve compared to commercial software.
Some popular commercial FDEM software options include 3DEC, FLAC3D, and UDEC. These software packages are widely used in the industry and academia and offer advanced features and technical support. However, they typically come with a cost and may require a license for use.
