Programs Good Math Major, Bad GRE Quant score?

AI Thread Summary
Concerns about a low GRE Quant score of 161 are prevalent among test-takers, especially when their academic background, including a strong GPA and relevant research experience, suggests otherwise. The individual expresses anxiety over their performance, particularly due to test anxiety and time management issues during the exam. There is a discussion about the potential impact of retaking the GRE and the upcoming Subject GRE, with the belief that a high score on the Subject GRE could mitigate the effects of the lower Quant score. Recommendations include analyzing the reasons behind the poor performance on the General GRE and addressing test anxiety before the next exam. Overall, the focus is on improving test performance and the possibility of compensating for a low score with a stronger showing in the Subject GRE.

Hey all,

So I took the General GRE, and I did rather poorly in the GRE Quant score (161). However, most of my resume and the likes would point otherwise (typical stuff like graduate coursework, two REUs, 3.9 GPA, etc.)

How concerned should I be about this? Should I retake it? I'm taking the Subject GRE in about 9 days. If I do really well, would it make up for it?

I'm at the point where I'm slowly freaking out haha.

Have you identified what happened in the GRE that made your quant score so low?

I dunno. I sort of freaked out for the first section, and actually eve nran out of time. Then the next two sections I did went fine, just...I don't know. It's scary.

Well, maybe you need to focus on figuring out what went wrong with the first general GRE and try to fix it before tacking on the subject one ( For math?) Look up stuff for test anxiety (I can't spell :P ) good luck to you mate!

Also, I would asume a high Subject GRE would replace the bad quant score on the general (just assuming)

TL;DR Summary: What topics to cover to safely say I know arithmetic ? I am learning arithmetic from Indian NCERT textbook. Currently I have finished addition ,substraction of 2 digit numbers and divisions, multiplication of 1 digit numbers. I am moving pretty slowly. Can someone tell me what topics to cover first to build a framework and then go on in detail. I want to learn fast. It has taken me a year now learning arithmetic. I want to speed up. Thanks for the help in advance. (I also...
Hi community My aim is to get into research about atoms, specifically, I want to do experimental research that explores questions like: 1. Why do Gallium/Mercury have low melting points 2. Why are there so many exceptions and inconsistencies when it comes to explaining molecular structures / reaction mechanisms in inorganic and organic chemistry 3. Experimental research about fundamental Quantum Mechanics, such as the one being followed by Hiroshima university that proved that observing...
guys i am currently studying in computer science engineering [1st yr]. i was intrested in physics when i was in high school. due to some circumstances i chose computer science engineering degree. so i want to incoporate computer science engineering with physics and i came across computational physics. i am intrested studying it but i dont know where to start. can you guys reccomend me some yt channels or some free courses or some other way to learn the computational physics.
