HELP Unit-Impulse Response for Discrete System problem

AI Thread Summary
The discussion revolves around solving unit-impulse response problems for discrete-time systems. Two specific equations are presented, with participants seeking help to compute the impulse responses and identify correct answer options. One user reports successfully solving the second equation but believes none of the provided answers are correct, which their teacher has confirmed. The conversation emphasizes the method of replacing variables in the equations to find the impulse response and expresses confusion about the next steps after calculating initial values. The thread highlights the challenges faced in understanding and applying impulse response calculations in digital filters.

HELP!Unit-Impulse Response for Discrete System problem

Please help me solve these problems. Thank you so much for all your help.

Compute the unit-pulse response for the discrete time system

1) y[n + 2] + 1/2 y[n+1]+1/4y[n] = x[n+1]-x[n] (for n = 0, 1, 2)
For number 1) the options for right answers are:
a. 0, -1, 2
b. 0, -1, 1/2
c. 0, 1, -3/2
d. 0, 1, 2

2) y[n + 2] + 1/4 y[n+1]-3/8y[n+2] = 2x[n+2]-3x[n](for n = 0, 1, 2)
For number 2) the options for right answers are:
a. 0, -1, 4
b. 2, -1/4, 1/2
c. 0, -1, -3/2
d. 2, -1/2, -17/8

I am completely stuck if you could at least give me the right answer still it will be helpful.

Show us what you've learned about how to calculate the impulse response of a digital filter, and then we can help you.

Hey I already figured out the second one. None of the answers are right. But and I told my teacher about it and he agreed with me. I am confortable doing impulse response but not this one.
Generally in impulse response we replaceY[n] with h[n] and x[n] with delta[n] and put the n values as given 0,1,2 and find the values for the value of h[n]. first we re arrange the equation for h[n] and then find it. but after finding those values what should I do ? I am stuck right there.
Thanks

I used to be an HVAC technician. One time I had a service call in which there was no power to the thermostat. The thermostat did not have power because the fuse in the air handler was blown. The fuse in the air handler was blown because there was a low voltage short. The rubber coating on one of the thermostat wires was chewed off by a rodent. The exposed metal in the thermostat wire was touching the metal cabinet of the air handler. This was a low voltage short. This low voltage...
Hey guys. I have a question related to electricity and alternating current. Say an alien fictional society developed electricity, and settled on a standard like 73V AC current at 46 Hz. How would appliances be designed, and what impact would the lower frequency and voltage have on transformers, wiring, TVs, computers, LEDs, motors, and heating, assuming the laws of physics and technology are the same as on Earth?
Thread 'How Does Jaguar's 1980s V12 Dual Coil Ignition System Enhance Spark Strength?'
I have come across a dual coil ignition system as used by Jaguar on their V12 in the 1980's. It uses two ignition coils with their primary windings wired in parallel. The primary coil has its secondary winding wired to the distributor and then to the spark plugs as is standard practice. However, the auxiliary coil has it secondary winding output sealed off. The purpose of the system was to provide a stronger spark to the plugs, always a difficult task with the very short dwell time of a...
