AI Thread Summary
Outlook Express is launching links in Firefox instead of Internet Explorer (IE), despite IE being set as the default browser. To resolve this, users can navigate to IE's Tools, then Internet Options, and check the option for IE to verify if it is the default browser. After confirming, a dialog box will appear the next time a link is clicked, allowing the user to set IE as the default. However, some users report that this fix does not work specifically within Outlook. Alternative methods include checking the Internet Connection Settings under Options in Outlook and ensuring the default browser is set correctly in the Program Access and Defaults section of the Start menu. The discussion touches on the preference for tabbed browsing in Firefox but acknowledges the comfort and familiarity of using IE.

Grr. This is still bugging me.

Outlook Express insists on launching any links in Firefox rather than IE. I cannot find the switch to change this.

Easy fix. Just go to IE Tools, Internet options, programs and check the box that says the IE should check to see if it is the default browser. The next time you click on a link, a dialog box will pop up asking if you want to make IE the default - just say yes, and you'll be set. Just for curiosity's sake, why would you not want links to come up in Firefox? The tabbed browsing is very handy for following related links without losing the original page...

Mm. Did not work.

My default browser *is* IE (if I click on a .HTML link in a folder it will come up in IE), it is just in Outlook that it does this.

I found it in Options :: Connection :: Internet Connection Settings :: Change :: Programs

There's a checkbox that tells IE to check to see whether it's the default. I even logged off and on.

Hm. OK, I'll try rebooting.

Yeah. Much as I despise supporting MS, it's what I'm used to, and the overhead for getting used to FF is just not on my radar right now.

Well, the date has now passed, and Windows 10 is no longer supported. Hopefully, the readers of this forum have done one of the many ways this issue can be handled. If not, do a YouTube search and a smorgasbord of solutions will be returned. What I want to mention is that I chose to use a debloated Windows from a debloater. There are many available options, e.g., Chris Titus Utilities (I used a product called Velotic, which also features AI to prevent your computer from overheating etc...
I've been having problems for the past few weeks with the display on my Dell computer. I bought the computer new back in 2019 or so, which makes it about 6 years old. My monitor is a 27" HP monitor that I bought for another computer (an HP Pavilion), recently demised, back in about 2012 or 2013. As far as I can tell, the computer, which is running a 10-core Xeon Scalable processor, is functioning as it should. The first symptom was that the screen would go dark, which I would attempt to...
