How can I prepare for the challenges of high school?

AI Thread Summary
Eighth grade is progressing well, but there are significant concerns about transitioning to high school, particularly the fear of losing friendships and having to start anew. The pressure of advanced math courses, such as Algebra II, is daunting, especially after skipping to algebra in seventh grade. Struggles with the algebra placement test add to the anxiety, compounded by the feeling of having made choices that seem regrettable, like joining a class for someone who is no longer a positive influence. Despite these challenges, there is a glimmer of hope that high school could offer new opportunities for friendship and personal growth, emphasizing the importance of adapting to new environments and forming connections.

Eighth grade has been going well so far but I'm horrified for high school. I'm probably not going to go to the same school as my friends and then I'll have to start all over again and then they'll all drift away from me and all of this will have been worth nothing. Also I skipped to algebra in the 7th grade which means I'll have to do algebra II as a freshman. I can't do it. Then imagine pre-calculus or trigonometry ??? I'm so done for omg. I'm already struggling now, I guess on the algebra placement test and only decided to join the class for a boy who hates me now so I ruined my life all for nothing. All honors class are gonna suck too :/ The only good thing about school rn is Flowers for Algernon.

As I was growing up, my family moved from one school district to another about five times before I reach High School. Perhaps the most important thing you will learn is how to turn new strangers into old friends. I suspect High School will be an adventure that you will love.

Just ONCE, I wanted to see a post titled Status Update that was not a blatant, annoying spam post by a new member. So here it is. Today was a good day here in Northern Wisconsin. Fall colors are here, no mosquitos, no deer flies, and mild temperature, so my morning run was unusually nice. Only two meetings today, and both went well. The deer that was road killed just down the road two weeks ago is now fully decomposed, so no more smell. Somebody has a spike buck skull for their...
Thread 'In the early days of electricity, they didn't have wall plugs'
Hello scientists, engineers, etc. I have not had any questions for you recently, so have not participated here. I was scanning some material and ran across these 2 ads. I had posted them at another forum, and I thought you may be interested in them as well. History is fascinating stuff! Some houses may have had plugs, but many homes just screwed the appliance into the light socket overhead. Does anyone know when electric wall plugs were in widespread use? 1906 ad DDTJRAC Even big...
