How Does Thickness Affect Phase Change in Thin Film Interference?

Click For Summary
Thickness significantly influences phase changes in thin film interference by altering the path length of light waves reflecting off different surfaces. As the thickness of the film varies, it can lead to constructive or destructive interference, depending on the wavelength of light and the refractive indices involved. The exit phase of light is affected because the additional distance traveled by light in thicker films results in a phase shift. Understanding this relationship is crucial for applications in optics and materials science. For a more detailed explanation, resources like HyperPhysics provide valuable insights into the underlying principles.

I basically understand the idea of the changes in phases of interference in thin films but i was hoping for a better explanation. i understand that the thickness of the lens effects the the exit phase but i don't know why PLEASE HELP! Thank you
