How hot is the fire caused by burning Vegetable Oil?

In summary, the conversation is about the temperature of fire from burning vegetable oil and how it changes when water is poured onto it. The person asking the question has tried to research it but only found information on flash points and cooking. The response suggests that flash point for vegetable oil is around 600-700 degrees Fahrenheit and that the temperature can theoretically be increased until the molecules dissociate. A link to further information on adiabatic flame temperature is also provided.

I actually would like to know two things...

How hot is the fire from burning vegetable oil straight up? (like in a bowl)

and

How hot is vegetable oil fire when a bowl of oil is on fire and then water is poured onto it? (big fire)

I googled but only found flash point info and how to cook lol.

Which oil?

Generally Flash is 600-700 Farenheit, and that means boom in your face, which scatter the oil, thus diminsihing the heat.

In theory you could heat oil to any temp you want until the molecules dissociate.

FAQ: How hot is the fire caused by burning Vegetable Oil?

1. How does the temperature of a vegetable oil fire compare to other types of fires?

The temperature of a vegetable oil fire can reach up to 700 degrees Fahrenheit, which is similar to other types of fires. However, the exact temperature can vary depending on the type of vegetable oil and other factors such as ventilation.

2. What makes vegetable oil fires dangerous?

Vegetable oil fires can be dangerous because they can quickly spread and produce thick, black smoke. Additionally, the high temperature of the fire can cause severe burns and damage to property.

3. Can vegetable oil fires be extinguished with water?

No, water should not be used to extinguish a vegetable oil fire. This is because water can cause the oil to splatter and spread the fire even further. Instead, a fire extinguisher specifically designed for oil fires should be used.

4. Are there any precautions that can be taken to prevent vegetable oil fires?

Yes, there are several precautions that can be taken to prevent vegetable oil fires. These include keeping a close eye on cooking oil while it is heating, not leaving it unattended, and keeping flammable materials away from the stove.

5. Can the temperature of a vegetable oil fire be controlled?

Yes, the temperature of a vegetable oil fire can be controlled by adjusting the heat source and using a fire extinguisher. However, it is important to exercise caution and never attempt to extinguish a large oil fire on your own.
