Quarky I feel I'm presently in your shoes.

Was supposed to get an invite to an interview but I haven't heard anything from them even on the date they said they would send the invite.

And I feel a bit distraught at not even getting a chance to be interviewed.
Do you think it'd be okay to ask the admissions team why I wasn't shortlisted for the interview?

If you have it in writing that they would send an invite by a certain date, I would wait three working days past that date (just in case it slipped someone's mind) and then ask your contact person what's going on.

What exactly does that mean? It seems a rather odd message to send - why not send the actual invitation?

It's getting very late. Offers usually are required to be accepted or declined by April 15.

FAQ: I haven't heard back yet about my graduate school interview

1. What should I do if I haven't heard back after my graduate school interview?

If you haven't heard back after your graduate school interview, it's generally a good idea to wait a few weeks before reaching out. After that period, you can send a polite email to the admissions committee or the contact person you interviewed with, expressing your continued interest and inquiring about the status of your application.

2. How long should I wait before following up on my interview?

Typically, it's advisable to wait about two to three weeks after your interview before following up. This allows sufficient time for the admissions committee to review applications and make decisions. However, if they provided a specific timeline during your interview, it's best to adhere to that.

3. Is it normal to not hear back right away after a graduate school interview?

Yes, it is quite normal not to hear back immediately after a graduate school interview. Admissions committees often have many candidates to evaluate and may take time to reach a decision. Delays can also occur due to scheduling conflicts or other administrative processes.

4. What are some reasons for the delay in hearing back after an interview?

There can be several reasons for a delay in communication after an interview, including a high volume of applicants, the need for committee discussions, logistical issues, or the time required to finalize decisions. Additionally, some programs may have multiple rounds of interviews, which can extend the timeline.

5. How can I express my continued interest in the program without being pushy?

You can express your continued interest by sending a concise and courteous email. Thank them for the opportunity to interview, reiterate your enthusiasm for the program, and politely inquire about the status of your application. Keep the tone positive and respectful to avoid coming across as pushy.
