AI Thread Summary
The discussion centers on the concept that our universe might be a hologram, a theory supported by some reputable physicists like Leonard Susskind and David Bohm. The idea raises questions about the nature of reality and what it means for the universe to be a hologram. While some participants express skepticism, others point to recent scientific developments and simulations that lend credibility to the theory. The debate highlights the ongoing uncertainty in physics regarding the true nature of our universe. Overall, the holographic universe theory remains a complex and intriguing topic in contemporary science.

The whole hologram thing has always seemed like just unbelievable nonsense to me but there are reputable physicists like Leonard Suskind (who I think started the whole thing) who take it seriously.

Bohm certainly thought our universe was a hologram. Whether or not our universe is a hologram is currently highly unclear.

What does "hologram universe" even mean?

what is the current status of the field for quantum cosmology, are there any observations that support any theory of quantum cosmology? is it just cosmology during the Planck era or does it extend past the Planck era. what are the leading candidates into research into quantum cosmology and which physics departments research it? how much respect does loop quantum cosmology has compared to string cosmology with actual cosmologists?
