AI Thread Summary
The quenching process is influenced by multiple factors, with carbon content being one of them, but not the sole determinant. Other alloying elements significantly affect how materials like CK45 steel and ST-52 respond to quenching. Understanding the quenching response requires knowledge of isothermal transformation diagrams and metallurgy principles. The topic is complex, often necessitating a deeper study, such as a college course in steel metallurgy. This knowledge is essential for hardening materials used in the manufacturing sector.

Hello friends,

For example; While the carbon ratio in CK45 steel is between 0.42-0.50, the carbon ratio in ST-52 material is 0.22. Is the important factor in the quenching process the carbon content? In here, can we make quenching to CK45 and ST-52?
In other words, which types of materials can we apply the quenching process? What is the important factor that affect the process?

Thank you.

Carbon content is only one variable that affects material response to quenching. Other alloying elements have a major effect on quenching response. The response to quenching is shown in isothermal transformation diagrams. Be warned - it's not a simple subject. A full college course in the metallurgy of steel will get you a basic understanding of the process.

Absolutely you are right. That is a huge field. I'm just investigating on this topic for basic knowledges. Because, we need to harden the material as it is used in manufacturing sector. Thank you so much for respond. As you told me, I will take a look isothermal transformation diagrams and will try to find much more information.

Here's a video by “driving 4 answers” who seems to me to be well versed on the details of Internal Combustion engines. The video does cover something that's a bit shrouded in 'conspiracy theory', and he touches on that, but of course for phys.org, I'm only interested in the actual science involved. He analyzes the claim of achieving 100 mpg with a 427 cubic inch V8 1970 Ford Galaxy in 1977. Only the fuel supply system was modified. I was surprised that he feels the claim could have been...
TL;DR Summary: Heard in the news about using sonar to locate the sub Hello : After the sinking of the ship near the Greek shores , carrying of alot of people , there was another accident that include 5 tourists and a submarine visiting the titanic , which went missing Some technical notes captured my attention, that there us few sonar devices are hearing sounds repeated every 30 seconds , but they are not able to locate the source Is it possible that the sound waves are reflecting from...
