Recombination Freq.: Genetic Mapping Hwk Problem

AI Thread Summary
The recombination frequencies between genes Q, Z, and R are 23.5%, 10%, and 13.5%, respectively. It is determined that statement B, claiming gene Q is between genes R and Z, is not true. Statement D is confirmed as true since the recombination frequency between R and Z is higher than that between R and Q. The discussion clarifies the relationships and distances between the genes based on their recombination frequencies. Understanding these relationships is crucial for accurate genetic mapping.

Homework Statement

The recombination frequency between gene “Q” and gene “Z” is found to be 23.5%. The recombination frequency between “Q” and a third gene “R” is 10%. The frequency of recombination between “Z” and “R” is 13.5%. Which one of the following is NOT true concerning these three genes?
Choose one answer.
a. Gene “R” is closer to gene “Q” than gene “Z”.
b. Gene “Q” is in between gene “R” and gene “Z”.
c. Gene “R” is closer to gene “Q” than gene “Z”.
d. Crossing over is most likely to occur between gene “R” and gene “Z” than between
gene “R” and gene “Q”.

Homework Equations

Q-------------------------------------Z
Q----------R
R--------------------------Z

The Attempt at a Solution

B is not true but for D i thought that crossing over would most likely occur between R and Q than between R and Z?

You are correct that B is not true. D is true because the recombination frequency between R and Z (13.5%) > the recombination frequency between R and Q (10%).

Thanks for the explanation!

I don't get how to argue it. i can prove: evolution is the ability to adapt, whether it's progression or regression from some point of view, so if evolution is not constant then animal generations couldn`t stay alive for a big amount of time because when climate is changing this generations die. but they dont. so evolution is constant. but its not an argument, right? how to fing arguments when i only prove it.. analytically, i guess it called that (this is indirectly related to biology, im...
Thread 'How to find the pH of a galvanic cell (MIT OCW problem set)'
This is the final problem in this problem set from MIT OCW. Here is what I did to try to solve it The table cited in the problem is below We can easily spot the two redox couples that are in the electrochemical cell we are given. The hydrogen-based electrode has standard potential zero, and the silver-based electrode has standard potential 0.22. Thus, the hydrogen electrode, with the lower potential, is the reducing agent (ie, it is where oxidation happens) and is the anode. Electrons...
