Some time ago I used to scan text from books, edit the text, and then post the text ... often in the middle of my typed input text ...

Health worries forced me to cease posting ...

Happily i am now returning to posting on the physics forum ...

Can someone please help me regarding posting text and images from books and academic papers ...

(Just a note ... I used to make extensive use of IrfanView by I have forgotten how i used it ...)

Hope someone can help ...

FAQ: Scan Text from book ... edit text and then Post the edited scan

What is the process of scanning text from a book?

The process of scanning text from a book involves using a scanner or a scanning app to convert printed text into digital format. This typically includes placing the book on a flatbed scanner or using a mobile device to capture images of the pages. The scanned images are then processed using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to convert the images into editable text.

What tools can I use to edit the scanned text?

You can use various text editing software tools to edit the scanned text, such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or specialized OCR software that includes editing features. These tools allow you to correct any errors that may have occurred during the scanning and OCR process, format the text, and make any necessary changes.

How can I ensure the accuracy of the scanned text?

To ensure the accuracy of the scanned text, it is important to use a high-quality scanner and ensure that the book pages are flat and well-lit during scanning. After the OCR process, carefully proofread the text against the original book to correct any errors in recognition, such as misread characters or formatting issues.

Can I share the edited scanned text online?

Yes, you can share the edited scanned text online, but it is important to consider copyright laws and permissions. If the book is still under copyright, you may need to obtain permission from the copyright holder before sharing. If the book is in the public domain, you can freely share the edited text.

What are the potential challenges of scanning and editing text from books?

Some potential challenges include dealing with poor image quality, especially if the book is old or damaged, which can lead to inaccuracies in the OCR process. Additionally, formatting issues may arise, requiring extra time to ensure the text appears as intended. There may also be legal considerations regarding copyright, as mentioned earlier.
