Summer research for graduating seniors?

In summary, the speaker is a graduating senior looking for opportunities to make the most of their summer. They are interested in internships, the peace corp, and other programs, such as the SULI program by DOE. They also mention their interest in traveling to another country, and their past experience at CERN. They have a strong academic record with multiple research experiences. Another potential option suggested is starting grad school early and working in a lab or with a professor before the semester begins.

Hi everybody:

I'll be graduating this year but don't want to just blow my summer away. I want to do something useful (get an internship, peace corp or something like that). I found the SULI program by DOE that accepts graduating seniors. What about other opportunities? I am willing to try something different before going into grad school (preferably traveling to another country :D)... I went to CERN last summer and that was awesome. It would be great if I can find something similar.

I have a solid record in academics with 3 summer+ research experiences.

Thanks for the help.

Have you considered starting grad school early? While they probably don't offer summer classes, they might be able to let you work in a lab or with a professor before the semester starts.

I highly encourage taking advantage of summer research opportunities for graduating seniors. These types of programs provide valuable hands-on experience and can help you stand out in graduate school applications and future job opportunities. The SULI program by DOE is a great option, but there are also many other opportunities available.

You mentioned wanting to try something different and possibly traveling to another country. There are several international research programs available for students, such as the DAAD RISE program in Germany or the JSPS Summer Program in Japan. These programs offer the chance to work on cutting-edge research projects while also immersing yourself in a new culture.

Additionally, you could also consider applying for internships at companies or organizations related to your field of study. This can provide valuable industry experience and help you make connections for future job opportunities.

Overall, my advice would be to research and apply for as many summer research opportunities as possible. This will not only make your summer productive, but it will also help you gain valuable skills and experiences that will benefit you in the future. Best of luck in your search!
