What is the volume of air swept out by a moving plywood sheet on a track?

AI Thread Summary
The problem involves calculating the volume of air swept out by a 4 x 8 foot plywood sheet, which is pushed 3 inches on a track. The dimensions are converted to inches, resulting in a width of 48 inches and a length of 96 inches. The area of the plywood is calculated as 4608 square inches. When the plywood is pushed, it sweeps out a box-shaped volume, which is determined by multiplying the area by the distance moved, resulting in 13824 cubic inches. The final answer for the volume of air swept out is 13824 cubic inches.

Homework Statement

A rectangular 4 x 8 foot sheet of plywood is fixed to a sled which moves on a track. The face of the plywood is perpendicular to the direction of the track. The sled is pushed a distance of 3 inches. What is the volume of air swept out during this motion.

Homework Equations

None. The problem is stated in its entirety.

The Attempt at a Solution

I know that the sides of the rectangle must be converted to inches, so 48 inches and 96 inches respectively. And I know Area = LW, so Area = 4608 inches squared. The next steps are unknown

When that rectangle is pushed forward 3 inches it sweeps out a box shaped volume. They want to know the volume of that box. That's all.

Oh, wow.

So the volume of that box would be:

Length times Width times Height of the box?

48inches x 96inches x 3inches = 13824?

13824 is the volume of air that is swept out during this motion?

Almost. 13824 isn't a volume by itself. You need to put units on it. 13824 what?

oh right, inches cubed?

Thread 'Voltmeter readings for this circuit with switches'
TL;DR Summary: I would like to know the voltmeter readings on the two resistors separately in the picture in the following cases , When one of the keys is closed When both of them are opened (Knowing that the battery has negligible internal resistance) My thoughts for the first case , one of them must be 12 volt while the other is 0 The second case we'll I think both voltmeter readings should be 12 volt since they are both parallel to the battery and they involve the key within what the...
Thread 'Trying to understand the logic behind adding vectors with an angle between them'
My initial calculation was to subtract V1 from V2 to show that from the perspective of the second aircraft the first one is -300km/h. So i checked with ChatGPT and it said I cant just subtract them because I have an angle between them. So I dont understand the reasoning of it. Like why should a velocity be dependent on an angle? I was thinking about how it would look like if the planes where parallel to each other, and then how it look like if one is turning away and I dont see it. Since...
