I've been reusing the same seed word for a while now as it seems to give good results. When I have the time, I wish to make a proper selection of my seed word based on probability rather than randomness.

According to my spreadsheet, we are halfway through the game.
Of course, the are still deleting and adding words, so the halfway point is a bit dynamic, but I thought I'd mention it anyways.

This is biased though. I am certainly not first as I do not post every day but play every day (my streak is at 521). I am more likely to post if I get a good result or if the solution itself has something I consider mildly interesting (today had both!), otherwise I might just not care enough to post.OmCheeto said:

If anybody cares, here are my cumulative data since I started playing. I intend to use the same seed word in the future, so once I got a "hole in one", I don't expect another.OmCheeto said:
I also started recording the percentage of words already used and my mean when about 44% of the words was already used. That plot (shown below) indicated a steady improvement. The last (differently colored) point is today's mean value. I expect a steeper slope as the percent of used words increases. Please don't call me a geek! I didn't put error bars on the plot, did I?

Regarding the "weirder" words I'd expect (as I don't keep track like you do) that most of the "ordinary" words were used by now. Although, now that I write it out I can see the error in my thinking. Why would the "ordinary" words be used first?jack action said:Wordle 1,198 4/6

I think that separating words as "weird" and "blah" is not a reliable criterion. I looked at the list of used words and I picked the first 5 that I would place in each category according to my sense of usage frequency in spoken English. Of course a thorough job would require one to go through the entire list. I am not inclined to do that at this point.sbrothy said:

When you are left with a choice where all values have equal weight, you still have to pick one. Flipping a coin is just as good as any for a purely random process. I play Wordle on 2 other platforms where it is clear that the words are chosen at random. I don't use the criteria of "most likely chosen by a human" on those platforms. I usually choose the first word on the list provided by my program.
However, it is my theory that human intervention plays a role in the word selection for NYT Wordle. I'm testing that theory and sharing my results. It seems to give good results up until now and certainly better than always picking the first one at the top of the list.
