Cell is a multi-core microprocessor microarchitecture that combines a general-purpose PowerPC core of modest performance with streamlined coprocessing elements which greatly accelerate multimedia and vector processing applications, as well as many other forms of dedicated computation. It was developed by Sony, Toshiba, and IBM, an alliance known as "STI". The architectural design and first implementation were carried out at the STI Design Center in Austin, Texas over a four-year period beginning March 2001 on a budget reported by Sony as approaching US$400 million. Cell is shorthand for Cell Broadband Engine Architecture, commonly abbreviated CBEA in full or Cell BE in part.
The first major commercial application of Cell was in Sony's PlayStation 3 game console, released in 2006. In May 2008, the Cell-based IBM Roadrunner supercomputer became the first TOP500 LINPACK sustained 1.0 petaflops system. Mercury Computer Systems also developed designs based on the Cell.
The Cell architecture includes a memory coherence architecture that emphasizes power efficiency, prioritizes bandwidth over low latency, and favors peak computational throughput over simplicity of program code. For these reasons, Cell is widely regarded as a challenging environment for software development. IBM provides a Linux-based development platform to help developers program for Cell chips.

A 12V photovoltaic cell receives solar irradiance of 200W/cm^2. Measurement show that the photovoltaic cell has an open-circuit of 0.6V, short-circuit current of 3A, and the photovoltaic cell maximum current is 80% of the short-circuit current. The efficiency of the...
Quantum "Cell Phones?"
Earlier today, I was thinking, what if we could use Quantum mechanics to have lighting fast cell phone access? How it could work is you could have one particle in the Cell Phone tower (which could now be just a room.) That was entangled with the particle in your cell...
Hi,
I am an engineering student, and I have an idea for a project, but I am not sure if it is viable. I want to make an article of clothing such as a jacket with several mini faraday flashlight-esque devices inside. They would be connected, and would charge a cell phone or other electronic...
I am trying to find the Absorbed dose for Silicon cells on a geostationary satellite from a period of (1996 to 2005)
The Equation I have is:
D(rad) = 1.68e-8 *((1/ρ)*dE/dx) * Phi
Where: D is absorbed dose and units are (100 ergs/g or 0.01 J/Kg)
(1/ρ)*dE/dx = (MeV*cm^2)/g...
Fuel cells means chem engineering, right? (move to the right section if necessary) Anyway this sounds great, except that it still uses gasoline:
http://www.technologyreview.com/energy/39203/
I have been following this story for awhile, and since no one is reporting it, I thought I would post, because I feel you should be aware of what you may be subjected to when you use your cell phone. Have a look, comments, disbelief, outrage...

I just replaced my old Nokia cell phone with a new Samsung phone about two months ago. I loved the voice quality and reliability of my old Nokia, but they don't make them anymore, so I settled for a Samsung with a small keyboard. I use TMobile and in general have been OK with their service...
I'm given a fuel cell that uses methane as fuel:
(CH4) + 2(O2) --> 2(H2O) + (CO2)
And I'm asked to find (a) the electrical work I can get out for each mole of methane, and (b) the amount of waste heat produced.
I understand that ΔG is defined as the amount of useful non-mechanical work...
How are cell membranes enlarged? What is known about how this process is controlled? How might I read more about this topic?
I am mainly asking about animal cells.
My son is a 3rd grader and wanted to do a science fair project on solar cells.
So we devised an experiment to see if reflecting light with a mirrow would increase power
output. We constructed a circuit using an amp-meter, solar cell, and 10Kohm resistor.
He hypothesized that reflecting sun...

Hey everyone, I was just wondering, in a PEM fuel cell the Hydrogen ion diffusion through the membrane is an important step. But don't these ions need to diffuse through the anode as well to reach the membrane? Also, if this is the case and the anode is a metal like Pt, wouldn't the diffusion...
Out of these I mean
1. Capsule
2. Cell wall
3. Flagella
4. Nucleus
5. Plasmid
Bacteria don't have a definite nucleus, I'm thinking it is cell wall that is a permanent feature. Am I right!
Hi Physics friends,
We purchased a dye-sensitized-sloar cell (DSC) kit for $50 which can make 5 sets of cells (10 pieces of glasses).
Hope we can make a good plan so we won't waste the materials.
We are thinking of making the dye from berries and change the concentration, and/or using a...

So I usually use VESTA to make my figures, and though the new version is able to do many mad things with calculated electron density isostructures and whatnot, I can't seem to just be able to throw in some clover-leaf d or p orbitals like what was done in the image below (from this paper on...
I am now waiting to go uni after alvls. I am interested to do research about solar cell. which engineering program should I take? elelctrical, mechanical?? if my uni offer me electronics in optical engineering, should I go if I wan to research in solar cell??
I am trying to have students build a tester with sourceMeter, lamp, etc. for solar cell efficiency measurement.
Could someone give me advice on this project?
Thank you very much.
I will admit that I still have a bit of trouble when it comes to reading the table of standard electrode potentials. (Though, I do think my understanding is improving.)
However, unless I am mistaken, should not Daniell cells (zinc anode, copper cathode, sulfate solutions) not rechargeable...
I am trying to use a 0-5000 lb load cell with an Arduino. My issue is the 10 bit input on the Arduino. The load cell will actually be pre-loaded to about 3800 lbs. I just need to measure up to a couple hundred pounds difference. The load cell is a standard 4 wire and measures the difference...
My question is basically how can a solar cell operate in forward bias?

I know individually about primitive cell("It has lattice point at corners only") and unit cell("It has lattice point at corners as well as at center if bcc or at faces if fcc or at bases if it is base centered")
Are these right?
But I don't know what is Wigner-Seitz cell...
I remember reading on this forum (probably) about how it was physically impossible for cell phones to cause damage to DNA. A microwave photon has energy in the meV range. My biology and chemistry aren't all that great, and what little I could properly google gave me the idea that molecular bonds...
i want to generate electricity from piezoelectric load cell by application of load on it, but i don't know which type of cell to use and from where to get it? i want good efficiency, please help me out.
As electrons leave one half of a galvanic cell and flow to the other, a difference in charge is established. If no salt bridge were used, this charge difference would prevent further flow of electrons.
Why would the charge difference prevent further flow of electrons ??
Hypothetically, could the transmitter-receiver systems in cell phones communicate directly among other such systems at a range comparable to the range they can communicate with towers?
With 4G bandwidth?
I have received conflicting information from the internet regaurding cell phone/mobile phone communication. Some articles site radio waves and others microwaves and still others mix the two when trying to explain the signals used by cell phones/mobile phones? What am I missing?
I did some...
