Engineers, as practitioners of engineering, are professionals who invent, design, analyze, build and test machines, complex systems, structures, gadgets and materials to fulfill functional objectives and requirements while considering the limitations imposed by practicality, regulation, safety and cost. The word engineer (Latin ingeniator) is derived from the Latin words ingeniare ("to create, generate, contrive, devise") and ingenium ("cleverness"). The foundational qualifications of an engineer typically include a four-year bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, or in some jurisdictions, a master's degree in an engineering discipline plus four to six years of peer-reviewed professional practice (culminating in a project report or thesis) and passage of engineering board examinations.
The work of engineers forms the link between scientific discoveries and their subsequent applications to human and business needs and quality of life.
An engineer teaching Math!
I was just wondering how decent would it be for a person who has a PhD in Engineering to teach Math at a University? In other words does an engineering degree really prepares one to teach Math courses at a University level? Or, what courses would it be all right for...
Hello,
I need to conduct an interview for a research paper i am writing on mechanical engineering, and i was wondering if you guys could answer a few questions about mechanical engineering?
1) What High School/College classes would you suggest taking to become a mechanical engineer?

Hi,
I believe I might be getting false info. As much as I love Math, Engineering might be right for me. I said let me post on a Ham Radio forum. Yes Ham Radio not Physics forums, not Math forums, no College forums but a Radio forum.
Here is the reply I have. I believe I don't need to be a...

MiH had a cameo in my dream last night.
A guy who lived next door to a place I was visiting was experimenting with the aerodynamics of antenna probes, firing them off his balcony to see which would travel farthest and stick in the ground best. All these spiky things were protruding from his...
I'm almost 25 years old and I've finally started going to college, for a bachelors in mechanical engineering. I feel like it's the perfect major for me: I love math and physics, and I love creating things. My only problem is that I'm not wild about the idea of having a 9-5 job, working 5 days...
I am a US citizen and I love to travel. I am also a second year graduate student, earning my MS in Mechanical Engineering - concentrating in 'fluid mechanics, thermal sciences and energy'. I will be graduating in May 2008 and have some questions regarding subsequent aspirations of mine.

I am about to graduate as a mechanical engineer this coming August. I wish to further my study in physics. I wonder is it possible to change field since what I am about to obtain is a bachelor degree in engineering?
I am really interested in physics but back then I had no choice. I do...
does having a degree in Physics mean you are a Physicist?
does having a degree in Math mean you are a Mathematician?
does having a degree in Engineering mean you are a Engineer?
I personally don't think a degree gives you a title. I think your position at a company and the work you...
Hi all,
I will be joining Electronics and Communication Engineering at National Institute of Technology Trichy(India) in a few days. My idea was to get involved in high tech industries like satelllite designing or avionics or things like that. I know i am pretty late when i ask you...
I'm a freshman who majors in electric engineering.
Before several days, I studied for my exam on mathematics.
Accidently, an interesting idea hit me!

Hello there!
I have a question to anyone who has an engineering degree, was it hard to find a job after you graduated?
Some of my dad's friends at work have an engineering degree but they couldn't find a job so they're working on the assembly line as labourers.
Thanks.
What are the characteristics of a good design and a bad design? How can we be a good design engineer? How many design projects do we need to complete in a year to be a good design engineer?
