An intelligence quotient (IQ) is a total score derived from a set of standardized tests or subtests designed to assess human intelligence. The abbreviation "IQ" was coined by the psychologist William Stern for the German term Intelligenzquotient, his term for a scoring method for intelligence tests at University of Breslau he advocated in a 1912 book.Historically, IQ was a score obtained by dividing a person's mental age score, obtained by administering an intelligence test, by the person's chronological age, both expressed in terms of years and months. The resulting fraction (quotient) was multiplied by 100 to obtain the IQ score. For modern IQ tests, the raw score is transformed to a normal distribution with mean 100 and standard deviation 15. This results in approximately two-thirds of the population scoring between IQ 85 and IQ 115 and about 2.5 percent each above 130 and below 70.Scores from intelligence tests are estimates of intelligence. Unlike, for example, distance and mass, a concrete measure of intelligence cannot be achieved given the abstract nature of the concept of "intelligence". IQ scores have been shown to be associated with such factors as nutrition, parental socioeconomic status, morbidity and mortality, parental social status, and perinatal environment. While the heritability of IQ has been investigated for nearly a century, there is still debate about the significance of heritability estimates and the mechanisms of inheritance.IQ scores are used for educational placement, assessment of intellectual disability, and evaluating job applicants. In research contexts, they have been studied as predictors of job performance and income. They are also used to study distributions of psychometric intelligence in populations and the correlations between it and other variables. Raw scores on IQ tests for many populations have been rising at an average rate that scales to three IQ points per decade since the early 20th century, a phenomenon called the Flynn effect. Investigation of different patterns of increases in subtest scores can also inform current research on human intelligence.
There were some good points brought in with the trash. but let's try to keep religion and personal out of this.
Is some ones universe different because of their perception of it?
If you see things as systems of systems is that your world or everyones?
If you see them as chaos experienced is...
If a person has a really high IQ, is a super-genius, doesn't it stand to reason that that person can perceive the universe for what it is more than an average person? i feel like i can see the universe for what it is...patterns...cycles...of energy. i can see what humans are...where they came...
I was discussing Plato's Republic in class and we got into eugenics. Anyway, I remember hearing somewhere that IQ always deviates towards the population mean, and, therefore, it is not true that eugenics will result in benefits for the population (at least when done on the basis of IQ). Is this...

do you have to have an IQ well above average to have a chance at being a competitive physicist? and to do well, like complete a phD etc.
question to professional physicist...what are your IQ's? if you don't mind.
Still working on that project on Scientific Racism. All in all, I have come to a conclusion:
(Please state your thoughts)
The IQ gap between races is, in a sense, both genetic and environmental; however, the differences we perceive as genetic, according to evolutionary theory, may have...

I'm not sure what's more amazing, cell phones are becoming THAT SMALL or people's common sense has become THAT SMALL.
Does anybody know how?
I plan on doing a series of brain exercises next term during school.
Does anybody know how to specifically target the IQ as well?
I'm also interested in taking an IQ test before the term begins, and as well as after to see how things compare.
Although I should...
Have you ever taken an actual standarized IQ test? Not the online ones, those are not accuracy. See this:

Important findings: self-discipline, as rated on a number of scales, appears to be a more significant predictor of academic success than IQ, particularly for GPA (grade point average). Also, self-discipline and IQ, as measured in this study, were independent...
I've been taking those online IQ tests and I've been wondering if they're accurate. When taking them they all put me at around 130. Is that my realistic IQ?
WOW I never thought a muscle freak like Dolph Lundgren aka he-man aka Ivan Drago was almost as smart as Steven Hawking. He even speaks 5 languages.

has anyone else found it this hard to get an IQ test? I tried my school counseler, who said that the only IQ tests she gave were for special ed. she said I should take an online test. I told her it wasn't accurate enough. so she cam up with her next brilliant Idea to...
What is your IQ?
I ever did some IQ index test, I found my IQ is around 15x. If it is an IQ test without language test, my IQ is as higher as 16x.

Difficult "IQ" test
This is a very interesting IQ test. You are basically ranked against all the others who also took the test. There are 20 questions total, but it calculates your percentile as you go. I answered all 20 this afternoon and got 94th percentile, answering 13 of the 20...
When you use a computer, your intelligence in many areas effectively increases drastically. You have unlimited memory as fast as you can type, you can find many kinds of information in seconds, and you can write or use programs to perform many mental tasks (for example, a human armed with a...
Is there a limit to how high a persons IQ can be
without outside influences like nano technology and genetic engineering. Is there a limit to how smart humanity can get with eugenics?
I read on a site once that higher IQ is found amongst Atheists, and I also heard that SAT scores were also correlated with religious affiliation. Does anyone have a reliable source that suggests or proves an Atheism and IQ correlation? Thanks.
Feel like you need a little humbling? This test is based on flash movies -- so you'll need a browser plug-in to run it -

"Willerman, Schultz, Rutledge, and Bigler correlated brain size as measured through MRI within a sample of 40 unrelated participants. They found a correlation of 0.51, which was higher in men (0.65) than in women (0.35). In a follow-up study, Willerman, Schultz, Rutledge and Bigler suggested...
Hello, nearly everyone in this forum likes to talk about IQ. They cite sources, books, theories, IQ maps and whatnot, but no one does anything about it.
Well I have developed a series of mental exercises to raise your IQ, please take a look at it...

I took the High IQ Society's Culture-Fair test. It's very basic. Many people have claimed that this particular test is the most accurate out of all on-line IQ test. I wholeheartedly disagree, the Mensa workout is far more accurate. All of the tests on HIQS's site are a part of an obvious...
This post is made mostly in fun since I don't believe that IQ directly translates into intelligence. I do believe, however, that IQ results provide us with an indication of potential. So, in response to all of the board talk regarding IQ, and admittedly, to take a tiny jab at the liberals on...
Damn i hate IQ tests, aparently I am in the top 0.5% IQ of people my age (15)
Well that makes no sense, because it takes me about 3 weeks to write a 1000 word essay, and a lot of people i know my age can do that in an hour. These things are so in accurate, does anyone actually believe the give...

Although I think that is a waste of time to discuss about IQ, since the high number of threads dedicated to this topic I pose the following questions:
1) Is (was) scientific research being directed by people with high IQ?
2) Does IQ measure creativity?
And the most interesting (for...

Do you think it will ever be possible to ever gain a true grip on someones intelligence. I mean I know people who get 4.0 (gpa scale) who get good scores on ACT and SAT who are just plain stupid in many areas. My personal feeling is that there will for sure never be a written test alone that...

Highest IQ?
I'm doing a project on IQ and for posters I'm doing some information on the person with the Highest IQ in the world. Unfortunately, this seems to be a difficult thing to determine.
Marilyn Vos Savant is supposed to have the highest IQ according to Guiness. But Guiness isn't...
Are some people born with an "intrinsic high IQ" (that is, are some people born with a profoundly gifted mind that makes them "natural geniuses) where others are not?
I picked A because it seemed like you can pair up the others. Like Z goes with N because they are rotations of each other. And F goes with E because E is just one stroke short of F. Well, it turns out the correct answer was E because it's written in 5 strokes and the others are written in 4...
Yes, I have declared it, so it must be true...the whole concept of an IQ test is sort of silly, and should be ignored. I should know, I've been subjected to about a dozen professional IQ tests over the years, and countless online tests(scores ranging from 150-170). The thing is, there's a...
Here is an interesting quote:
