Measurement is the quantification of attributes of an object or event, which can be used to compare with other objects or events. The scope and application of measurement are dependent on the context and discipline. In natural sciences and engineering, measurements do not apply to nominal properties of objects or events, which is consistent with the guidelines of the International vocabulary of metrology published by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures. However, in other fields such as statistics as well as the social and behavioural sciences, measurements can have multiple levels, which would include nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio scales.Measurement is a cornerstone of trade, science, technology and quantitative research in many disciplines. Historically, many measurement systems existed for the varied fields of human existence to facilitate comparisons in these fields. Often these were achieved by local agreements between trading partners or collaborators. Since the 18th century, developments progressed towards unifying, widely accepted standards that resulted in the modern International System of Units (SI). This system reduces all physical measurements to a mathematical combination of seven base units. The science of measurement is pursued in the field of metrology.
I need to measure the density of aqueous microdroplets in oil. My first idea was to obtain a set volume of the droplet-in-oil mixture and weigh it to obtain the density, weigh the same volume of oil without droplets, then estimate the volume of the droplets so I can work out their density...

I am newly learning quantum computing and am confused about some concepts. Suppose your qbit is the electron of a hydrogen atom and its in the state α|0> + β|1> . As far as I can understand, this means that if you measure the qbit in |0>, |1> basis, you will get a ground state electron with the...
Hi there,
Maybe this is a stupid question. Maybe not.
I want to make a statement in my thesis that says that all radar antennas on satellites derive the EM field by: receiving the time-varying H field, and from the induced current derive the EM field. Am I correct in saying that? Or are there...

How do astrophysicists measure the redshift of electromagnetic waves from galaxies due to gravity without the use of General Relativity? If I can be more specific, how do astrophysicists know that the gravitational redshift of light emitted from some part of a galaxy or galaxy cluster...

From a purely theoretical standpoint, I'm quite comfortable with the concept of particle creation/annihilation, but, as a chemist, I cannot but feel that there's something missing in the way of interpretation, so I came up with the following 'explanation' of the phenomenon based on the measured...

Hello,
I'm wondering, is it possible to define an operator that gives information about the "distinctness" of superposition components?

I was reading up on the Andromeda Galaxy and it was saying that it was 2.2 to 3 million light years away from earth. So my question is how do we measure how far it is in light years?
