Right now, I'm torn between 4 majors, 2 of which are fairly similar (chem and chem engineering).
My main questions is out of those 4, which one do you think will offer the best career options with just a B.S. Right now I'm not planning on a masters or PhD program.
A few things about me...
I'm playing around with a toroidal coil and eventually want to use it for some wireless power transfer experiments. My problem is that i need a function generator that can output around 1-5 mhz, and they are kinda pricey. I'm not going to need to know the precise frequency I'm producing, just to...
Hi
I'm a fresh graduate who is interested in pursuing a master program at any lead's school over the nation. In fact, I'm an electrical engineering major; however, I haven't decided yet which a program that I'll do. I'm really confused betwen either a biomedical engineering, bioengineering or...
Hi
I am unsure what I want to do for a career but I really enjoy calculus, statistics, chemistry, biology and physics. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I currently work in software development as a contractor, I decided to go to college and get a BS in computer engineering (to add to my skill set, and I figured I may find it useful in the future if I run out of work and need to seek traditional employment).
I've always had somewhat of an...
Hi All
First post, so: Hi
I'm in the final year of a MPhys Physics degree at St Andrews Uni, and I expect to do pretty well. I've been thinking about going in for the nuclear industy beacuse I'm a bit of an idealist, and I really think nuclear power will help the UK. The problem is...
I'm a senior in high school and I'm currently doing some research on colleges. I want to major in prepharmacy, but I have a fear that I might change it into engineering or art sometime later. I was thinking about applying to Rochester Institute of Technology but since I live in CA. I never been...
I'm currently heading towards an engineering disciple(electrical), but have thought about switching to math, since I think I'd really enjoy being a professor. I've always had a passion for math, I find myself enjoying math classes more than any other subject. Although, I do understand that I've...
Hey Everyone!
I'm going to be a Junior in high school next year and I am wondering what math course to take. My school has a schedule where there is only 4 classes a day; but they all run longer. So you can get through a normal math class in half a year with just as much time in the class room...
I am currently a sophomore Applied Physics major and I am considering switching to Electrical Engineering. I would prefer not to stay a 5th year, but, since I am behind, the only way I can graduate in four years is if I take some summer courses. The courses I would have to take are: Linear...
(I thought I'd repost this into the appropriate section)
Hi, I'm a semi-sophomore in Engineering at a community college in Massachusetts.
We don't have engineering classes, but a great Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics department (My Linear Algebra class has 6 students in it).
I plan to...
Is there a way for a kid to blend physics and art into a career? She can't make up her mind which way to go, so I thought I would see if there are any suggestions out there that use both.
I'm sorry I've beaten this kind of topic down to death, But I really need to a way to pay for college. This year, I am only able to borrow $5600 ; That amount is not enough to cover tuition for fall, summer and spring classes. My parent cannot borrow any more money for me right now.
What I...
So I got rejected from both programs I had lined up and applied to. I have a few options, but was really hoping you guys would have many more.
I could take two classes online from ArtOfProblemSolving.com, they would help me prepare for math olympiads and contests, and I would certainly enjoy...
hello, just a small question on taking phy II over the summer.
my schools gone through a great deal of budget cuts and we're not left with a lot of options with regards to classes here.
physics II is offered once in the first 6 week semester, may to june.

Please tell your opinion with reasons (if possible). I hope this will be important for those who do not have a good undergrad research experience
Please consider all the factors including the demand, funding, research, jobs,...etc.
I'm looking at housing options. I'm thinking, while I can afford to get a nice place, I could save around 20-30% on rent by getting a not so nice place. Even a not so nice place would still be better than any of the rooms I had during school.
I'm just mulling this over and considering how...
In your opinion, what are my options in life based on my pedigree alone
Just turned 24, graduated 1.5 years ago with a degree in physics/astronomy. I'm in between jobs. I have a 2nd interview with a financial software company that deals with hedge funds/private equity, banks, etc.

Hi,
I'm a physics major at Cornell and after reading a few of the threads on this site, I'm worried I might not end up with the career I'm expecting. I love physics, and have been planning on going to graduate school for my Ph.D. But I'm not sure I love physics enough to be...
In Fall 2008, I'm going to start studying for an undergrad in electrical engineering.
I'm getting tired of doing gruntwork for my summer jobs, stuff like painting, being a salesman etc... and I was wondering whether people know about any summer jobs that are somewhat field related that I could...
im 21 and curently a security guard. my dad go hurt and i had to get a job straight out of high school to help support my family doing so putting my education on hold.My question is if the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Interdisciplinary Studies - Math and Physics at Ellis College online would be a...
I'm graduating in a week with a BA in physics and a 2.51 GPA (WOOT!11) Yeah, well I didn't do so well in chemistry and some other general courses which caused me to switch majors several times. It looks like I'll be denied every job that asks for my GPA.
Well, anyways, I feel I don't have...
career option?
i don't know how many times this has been asked(probably 347374 times, coz that's what this Academic & Career Guidance forum does:biggrin:), but being a stupid, i ll ask again:-p

Hello all,
I recently graduated from high school, and accepted my offer to a pretty good university in the faculty of science. I am going to be majoring in physics and/or chemistry. I just want to know if it is right for me. More specifically, what do people do out there with a physics...
I was on MIT's website this afternoon and noticed that the school offered 4 different options within the mathematics department. The 4 options were General, Applied, Theoretical, and Mathematics with Computer Science. I'd like to know the differences between these if possible. Is the option with...
I have a B.S.M.E. and now considering going back to get a MA in mathematics. Would this be a good career move or should I consider a MS in mechanical? I enjoy ME however I also enjoy mathematics. I am wanting skills to be diversified. What would be my career paths?
I'm trying to plan out my schedule for next year, and need to choose 3 arts courses. I found 2 that are interesting (History of science, and History of Technology), but can't seem to find anymore that interest me. Anyone have any suggestions for what might be useful/interesting?
The tutorial on how to make a search form with multiple search options was excellent!

Hello, I am a third year physics student (at UBC in Canada) and I am wondering what are my options for the future. My second year average was something like 52% (I was mildly depressed at the time) and have boosted my grades over the year to just under 80%. I am looking to start getting some...
I need to get a laptop in addition to my desktop computer for doing presentations/demos and general academic use--carrying it around all day every day in a backpack while cycling/walking a few miles. I'm still undecided. I am torn between a model from Sony's TX series--unfortunately I do not...
hi I am still at high school, next year I am yr13 and I am taking calculas but not the other maths option 'modelling and stats' is this a good idea or do i need to take it to be a ME or structual engineer? thanks:smile:
Hi,
I'm confused about what grad school I'd like to go to.. I'm taking physics first year university and was wondering if this would give an advantage what-so ever into entering grad schools,.. or do they not lookat it at all?
Hi all, I am currently in the last year of high school, and currently I am considering what faculty to enter in University.. most likely Engineering or Computer Science, because the admission average for Science is way too high for me. I am mostly interested in physics, math, and computers.
I...
I'm currently in the US military and stationed overseas in the UK. I'd like to finish my math degree while I'm in the military since they pay for it, but I've run into a wall. They will only pay for schools that are in the United States, so I can't go off-base to a UK college and earn credits...
Programming vs. Physics -- Career options;
Well, I'm 17 and am going to graduate college soon. ever since the age of 15 (when our family finally got a computer), I got very involved in programming and living in the "internet scene". For those of you who don't know what the "scene" is, it's...
Hi, I'm a junior undergraduate and I'm starting to look at graduate schools. My school offers an accelerated 5 year masters of physics program that I have to announce my interest in this year if I want to do it. My question is can get my masters now and then in 4-6 years come back and get my...

Anybody know how to type the UK poundsign?
Scheduled for release this month.
How much is 12 pounds?
Presumably if you wait for the paperback edition or a used copy you will be able to get it much cheaper. Still I'm curious and...

I'm a freshman in a college who is undecided whether to major in computer science or mathemmatics.
What are to possible opions for math majors or compsci majors for grad school/jobs?
hi, what kind of career options do i have if i i.e. get a masters degree in statistics? previously i studied abstract algebra, but found it to be a bit too theoretical. i did finish my masters degree, but i really don't want to work in abstract algebra for the rest of my life. so now I'm taking...
WHat are the options for a math Ph.D. besides teaching??
Hi, I will be getting my BS in pure math this spring and I need some advice. I breezed through the undergrad math curriculum in 3 years and this year I am taking real analysis and analytic function theory which are 600 level (master...
Is there a program that would allow me to write out and solve math problems on my computer, the reason is my professor only wants problems typed and printed from the computer, not hand written.
Are there really any jobs that you can get doing medical physics with only a bachelors in physics with a concentration in medical physics?
Maybe like a technician/assistant to a medical physicist...
I will be going to grad school for medical physics eventually after I get my bachelors, but...
