A photograph (also known as a photo) is an image created by light falling on a photosensitive surface, usually photographic film or an electronic image sensor, such as a CCD or a CMOS chip. Most photographs are created using a smartphone/camera, which uses a lens to focus the scene's visible wavelengths of light into a reproduction of what the human eye would see. The process and practice of creating such images is called photography.

I set up my scope on my deck at my new townhouse for the first time last night. It was pretty good, though my scope's tracking was pretty mediocre.
First up, Jupiter, with Callisto to the left, Ganymede and Europa to the right, and Io in front, casting a shadow.
Next, comet...
Does anyone know what the native resolution of Cassini's various cameras are? I'm looking for VERY high resolution (> 3 megapixel) versions of images like the one below, suitable for producing a good 5x7 or even 8x10 print. Anyone have any links to such high-res photos?

I took a Fathers day hike, thought I'd share the view. Marys Peak is about 20mi west of my home, I haven't been up there in many years, thought it was time for a revisit.

Are there any other geology/palaentology enthusiasts that like to do a spot of fossil collecting when they get a chance? Or maybe you don't like geology, but just think ammonites are cool?
What were your best finds? Where are your favorite fossil hunting spots?
Photos would be nice.

From Space.com, lots of really great shots from a tremendously exciting year in science. For those who don't know, this is the second golden age of astronomy/cosmology.

If photons are particles of light, then do things that emit light (for example, lightbulbs) create photons? If they do, is there an equation for it?
It's just something that's really stumped me for a few years now.

This came from a closed thread from 2003, but in light of new data and the fact that Mr. Martin has been on the radio this week telling millions of people that this object photographed by Cassini is the mothership he told of. One would think it's important to re examine his claim.
ok I'm not so sure if this topic is exactly where its supposed to be...in the biology section! oh well but the topic of the pics I'm looking for is called: "the relationship of living things and their environment" ...lol

I mean, a dead guy beat with a rock and rape. That's vile, that's torture. That is what I'm assuming all the fuss is being made about.

I saw photos on T.V I hope pictures like this will spread around so that people will start thinking with their conscious instead of their greed. I also heard that the Americans administration is afraid of such pictures being spread around and anti-war resentiment might rise again. I'm fully...
I'm pretty much okay with pair production but in the eqt we have that a photo gives an electron and a positron. If we do it the other way round we have an electron and a positron giving 2 photos in order to conserve momentum. Why do we not have 2 photos of energy for pair production ir order...
Why the movie or photos are not presented yet (about 40hours after the action)? Do you believe that the movie or photos are not modified now? I don´t believe it and many people also. Perfect propagandistic material is in fact lost. Too late... Why?
My main job is to photograph science and technology subjects. Most of my work in recent years has involved photographing northern lights and polarstratospehric clouds (seen over artcic areas and play a role in ozone depletion).
