A school is an educational institution designed to provide learning spaces and learning environments for the teaching of students (or "pupils") under the direction of teachers. Most countries have systems of formal education, which is sometimes compulsory. In these systems, students progress through a series of schools. The names for these schools vary by country (discussed in the Regional section below) but generally include primary school for young children and secondary school for teenagers who have completed primary education. An institution where higher education is taught, is commonly called a university college or university.
In addition to these core schools, students in a given country may also attend schools before and after primary (Elementary in the US) and secondary (Middle school in the US) education. Kindergarten or preschool provide some schooling to very young children (typically ages 3–5). University, vocational school, college or seminary may be available after secondary school. A school may be dedicated to one particular field, such as a school of economics or a school of dance. Alternative schools may provide nontraditional curriculum and methods.
Non-government schools, also known as private schools may be required when the government does not supply adequate, or specific educational needs. Other private schools can also be religious, such as Christian schools, gurukula (Hindu School), madrasa (Arabic schools), hawzas (Shi'i Muslim schools), yeshivas (Jewish schools), and others; or schools that have a higher standard of education or seek to foster other personal achievements. Schools for adults include institutions of corporate training, military education and training and business schools.
In homeschooling and distance education, teaching and learning take place independent from the institution of school or in a virtual school outside a traditional school building respectively. Schools are commonly organized in several different organizational models, including departmental, small learning communities, academies, integrated, and schools-within-a-school.
I’ve been a school teacher for 6 years, and I want to get into coding. I’ve been told by a CS professor I know that my background is very sought after in the tech industry, and I would be very competitive if I got into coding. Is this true? What’s the best route, bootcamp, nanodegree, etc.? What...
So I’m a high school freshman this school year. We have these little presentations by our counselors about planning out our high school years and beyond. In our high school, you only need 3 credits for math (3 years) to graduate. I am currently in Algebra 1. I heard that my school offers these...
I am in a high school physics class and have been recently assigned a mouse trap. We were given a mouse trap, that is all, and sent out on our own to create one. The requirements for this specific mousetrap car are to go forward 3 meters, then backwards 2 meters, and finally forward three meters...

There was an equal number of boys and girls in a school hall. After 108 boys left the hall, the number of girls in the hall became 4 times the number of boys in the hall. How many pupils were there in the hall at first?
my work:
Number of Boys = B
Number of Girls = G
G = B
We know that the...
Hello,I have been accepted for a physics teacher position in a high school. This would be my first job ever. I taught "tutored" students before in my home university for two semesters, and I think I am a good teacher. But, I feel that teaching high school students is totally different.
I am not...
During a school event, there were 8 times as many pupils as teachers and there were three times as many boys as girls. There were 70 fewer teachers than boys. How many people were there at the school event?
My answer: is there a better way to do it.
We know that pupils are students
Students =...
I teach high school astronomy. I am in my second of teaching. My bachelors is in physics and astronomy.
i was presented with the idea of starting an astro club, but I don't know what I would do with it. The only reason It was brought up is because there is a NASA test facility near here, and I...
I am in the rather unique and exciting position of being able to design an extension curriculum for some gifted Physics students who are in their final year of high school. The goal of the curriculum is to help prepare them for university physics with tools and ways of thinking, without just...
Hello everyone,
I've been trying to find an introductory textbook that really introduces biochemistry with a very basic approach. As part of my first year medical courses, I will need to take a few weeks of biochemistry and the textbook that has been recommended is Lodish et al. Molecular Cell...
Can you understand thermodynamics without a lot of information from chemistry?I mean I didn't learned a lot about atoms,molecules and everything that is related to science so I was wondering if it is possible to learn it without these subjects.I learned a few things about chemistry in high...
Hi, I have one year of undergraduate classes left. I am trying to figure out how best to prepare for my applications to an AMO physics program (hopefully highly competitive).

For the final project I do at a high school level, we are required to construct an experiment regarding any topic of physics. The experiment should yield quantitative data which can then be analysed through equations or trends. Essentially, I need to be able to discuss and critique the work...
Hello,
One of my children is switching to a new school system next year, and I was surprised to find that they cover subjects such as fractional exponents, exponential functions, rational functions and perhaps other topics as part of algebra 1. Their book has "common core" in the title, if that...
If one is considering graduate school later (say, in 5 years) after starting a job, is it considered dishonest to not tell the an interviewer who asks where you see yourself in 5-10 years? Most people I've asked have said: "Hell no. It's none of their business. And they'll never hire you if...
Has anyone ever became a non degree student/special status student at university to get better grades in undergraduate courses so you can apply to a PH.D program? What was this like? Did you receive financial aid? What classes did you take? How many semester did you do? Did you get into graduate...

Would it be a good idea to take both AP Physics C and AP Physics 2 in my senior year of high school (next year for me)? Does anyone have any experience with this and if so what was it like? Would I be biting off more than I can chew or should I go for it?
I am currently study physics at a top 20 us school with, however, a pretty weak physics department. I am in my sophomore year and almost finished all the major course. Till now, I am still not very into doing REU in my home school, because I feel I should learn more graduate level physics and...
I forgot about this article that I read a while back, and finally remembered it today.
We often get questions on here on how to get into MIT, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc... etc... all those highly competitive schools. People seem to think that there is a "recipe" or criteria, that if they...
