Hey!
I was hoping to read some interesting scientific papers about:
- Atomic, Solid State, Comp. Physics;
- High Energy, Nuclear, Particle Physics;
- Special & General Relativity;
- Quantum Physics;
- Astrophysics.
I want to read about those different topics to see what type of topic interests...
I have discovered a theory related to the anomaly and uncertainty prevailing after the discovery of Unified Field Theory. But I don't know what to do with the theory. I have learned that the theories are submitted as technical paper to the scientific journal, but how do I submit the paper to the...
Hey everybody,
I need to learn Java for a course I'm taking in the spring(my C++ course fulfills the prereq for our java intro to data structures course) and I need to get a working knowledge of java. I've been reading the book for the class I'm not taking, but it's essentially built around a...
I am writing a lab report as part of my degree and, of course, it must be in the standard scientific paper format.
I have come up against something that isn't particularly difficult but something that you must get correct for papers. I am defining quantities and their units, however I am not...
I want to support a scientifically oriented politician in the upcoming US midterms. I'm not looking to have people argue about which party is more scientifically oriented. Specifically, I want to support someone who either has a primarily scientific background or makes science a top priority...
As autumn arrives i tend to get depressed. Last weeks have been hell for me, literally, as I have nothing to do between study sessions, I end up wasting hours on youtube watching stupid crap. My solution is to find a hobby, something productive and stimulating that I can do on a regular basis. I...

Hi everyone!
I have a question for you all. I'm a 3rd year undergraduate math student who took 4 years away from school and I'm going to be returning this Fall(^.^). Prior to leaving school, I'd take courses in C++, Numerical Methods, Two additional semesters of Numerical Analysis, Modern...
You folks are the geniuses I have ever seen. So please tell me,is there any scientific proof for Karma?(I ain't asking any explanation from religious point of view). In some part of our life we might have done something immoral to others. In the same way,we may also get harmed by others. So if...
First, sorry if this is in the wrong section. This could span many subjects.
I was pondering on how reliable statistics in science are. My mother's best friend just had a baby naturally at 45 years old. I also know 3 other women who have had babies naturally after 40 (specifically 2 of them at...
Dear friends,
I am writting a simple essay about the mechanisms of scientific evolutions, where I would like to point out the main driving forces that induce scientific progress.
I would like to give simple examples from history of science (e.g Physics, Astrophysics, Mathematics, etc.)...
I have quite a lot of classic science books, e.g. on solid state physics, chemistry which I would like to sell. I am not in a hurry. Any ideas? ( I know of some services where you enter the ISBN of a book and they offer you some money for it, but the prices are ridiculously low when you compare...
Help!Strange problem with scientific calculator.
I was doing chemical equilibrium problems where one of the steps required me to square the reciprocal.
Which was (1/4.2x10^52)^2
The correct answer for this is 5.7 x 10^-106 but my Casio FX 115 ES calculator keeps showing zero.
Can anyone...
Hello everyone!
My teacher for quantum requires us to write up our homeworks using scientific workplace. We access the software through our schools website and login. I have downloaded the program and I can use it on my computer through the internet.

Say for example I discovered how to unify General Relativity with Quantum Mechanics and then someone else uses this improved understanding of physics to engineer a new product which would have been impossible without it. Am I entitled to a portion of the revenue generated by the new product...
I'm not quite sure what this course will entail, but it sounds interesting as I've been very interested in simulations like this, albeit it is a math class (MA1600) and my question is mainly this: what exactly would a class like this entail? What are the usual languages used? I've been required...
Hey guys I need some advice: I am a Math/Physics freshman whos pretty much a noob to programming in general; I have some experience with Fortran (taught as part of laboratory) and Python (self taught) but only in the context of elementary numerical methods / scientific computing. I have...
hi all,
I got a question about the spelling difference on a particular case.
I registered to address my problem to native English speakers(or people who can help me :)). Hopefully this is the right part of the forum.
Currently i am writing my thesis in English(i am not a native English...
Hi all,
I need to evaluate a matrix of functions. I got the jacobian matrix, and I need to run Newton's Method for systems of nonlinear equations on it. I have the right functions/matrix, but I don't know how to PLUG IN values for x,y,and z in scientific notebook. I need to iterate 5 times...

I've just started programming with Python this summer, and I'm taking a course in computational physics this semester. I've been really enjoying it and programming in general, but I don't have much knowledge in computer science save for intro stuff (string/list methods, functions/classes...
So all my life I have disliked writing in scientific notation's notation as mx10n where m and n are constants, because it looks indistinguishable from m times x times 10 to the n power. Alternatively it looks like the cross product of m and 10^n, which makes little sense because m and n are not...
I recently stumbled upon Kragh's Dirac: A Scientific Biography, and got a lot out of it. Usually, biographies of famous scientists are geared toward a general audience, and are hence light on details...but the "scientific biography" is a survey of the subject's scientific work, with little or no...
I came across this blog entry on how to read and understand a scientific paper and thought I'd share it here. It's very accessible and right on the money IMO, especially point 2 which is very basic but I often see people fail to do. Enjoy all :smile...
I have been exploring potential careers with a physics/ math or engineering degree and one job that interests me but I can not find much information on is being a science adviser. I would love to get some more info and possibly intern as one as a undergraduate. From what I understand you need at...
I am a bit curious about how pedagogical terminology, say what you found at the glossary of your science (or non-science) textbook gets established.
My guess is that you have a pioneer in the field come up with some concepts, write articles etc. on those concepts and gives it a name, and then...
Basically I don't know anyone in real life that can help me with this, so I need help checking to see if my answers are correct :)
PART A

My answer: 2.4 x 10^-4
6) Factor the following completely: 3x^3 - 18x^2 + 24x
My Answer: (3x)(x - 4)(x - 2)
I haven't been drinking coffee for a couple of years due to avoiding any substance that alters psychology significantly.
But now I'd like to accelerate studying for a while. Will coffee help me?
And what are the best practices about it?
I'm asking this question here on a physics forum because a physics question sparked this off. However, it is applicable to all aspects of scientific knowledge.
I am looking for a scientific knowledge dependency graph. This is one centralised database which captures the specific and required...
i just want to understand what i read in my algebra book. here what it says:
a measurement of 83200 ft. converted to (8.32)x10^4 ft. is now accurate to the nearest hundred feet. if we write (8.320)x10^4 the measurement is now accurate to the nearest ten feet.
i want to know why it is nearest...
I'm curious but usually negative exponents mean you're going to put those numbers on the bottom (sorry forgot the exact term it is much earlier than I normally get up) (example 6^-1 =1/6 so why is scientific notation different? Or is it? (Ex: 5x10^-3=.005)
If anyone wants a good laugh please read this article. If you take a shot every time you find an error, you will likely be drunk before you are finished reading.

Hi all,
I'm trying to put together a fairly comprehensive list of mysteries that science cannot currently explain with the standard theory.
So far I've got:
dark energy
dark matter
shrunken proton radius from muonic hydrogen
As you can see I've only got three items on the list and...

Hi everyone. I've been looking at some computer aided design software, FreeCAD, and while it's to my understanding that engineers use programs like this constantly I wanted to ask if anyone knew if there programs are used in scientific computing or computational science and engineering. From...
Hi. I'm looking for a calculator similar to the Casio fx-911es plus, but with programming capabilities,or at least simply a small expression that I can write and save to. The fx-911 is mostly good, but it annoys me that it clears memory on Power off (minus the 8 variables).
I used to have...
Hi everyone, as an undergrad in Pure math I have to take two classes of C and C++ programing.
I also have to take a mathematica class. I really donMt mind because I love programing and I'll probably get more class like this. But I'm wondering what good is C and C++ when one can use mathematica...
