A simulation is the imitation of the operation of a real-world process or system over time. Simulations require the use of models; the model represents the key characteristics or behaviors of the selected system or process, whereas the simulation represents the evolution of the model over time. Often, computers are used to execute the simulation.
Simulation is used in many contexts, such as simulation of technology for performance tuning or optimizing, safety engineering, testing, training, education, and video games. Simulation is also used with scientific modelling of natural systems or human systems to gain insight into their functioning, as in economics. Simulation can be used to show the eventual real effects of alternative conditions and courses of action. Simulation is also used when the real system cannot be engaged, because it may not be accessible, or it may be dangerous or unacceptable to engage, or it is being designed but not yet built, or it may simply not exist.Key issues in modeling and simulation include the acquisition of valid sources of information about the relevant selection of key characteristics and behaviors used to build the model, the use of simplifying approximations and assumptions within the model, and fidelity and validity of the simulation outcomes. Procedures and protocols for model verification and validation are an ongoing field of academic study, refinement, research and development in simulations technology or practice, particularly in the work of computer simulation.
I'm modelling a scenario for the research that I'm working on, and I got the cells and surfaces all mapped out for the environment finally, but now I'm totally stuck on creating a source.
I'd like a point source of Californium-252, but after hours of looking, I don't see any out of the 1000...
Hi folks!
A while ago, we discussed a real-time simulation of an oil cycle within a combustion engine. Back then I was focusing on volume flow and pressure and you were incredibly helpful in coming up with the required formulas, so thank you again for your help!
I'm now moving to the next...
Hello, I'm new to electronics and I'm reading a book currently to learn more about the topic. I'm currently on a section where I'm building circuits where I'm using a transistor as a switch. I decided to experiment with the circuit they gave me and put it in a simulation software called Proteus...

i want to make a simple model for a light bulb for a project i am not "Mechanical and energy" specialized i just need it to avoid any thermal issues.
is there a simple energy simulation for non-specialized use?
thank you.
Hi all,
This is my first time posting on this forum. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question so apologies in advance. Perhaps someone could recommend a more appropriate forum for me to post this on.

Hi guys,
I'm wanting to simulate faraday cage form, analysing mesh perforations defined by wavelengths of different electromagnetic spectra (eg. radio, microwave, UV etc).
Are there any good analysis softwares which I could import a pre-made digital model with these perforations and simulate...
Now, we all know all physical things are related to math. EVERYTHING is related to math. Now, we have all heard the theory that we are all living in a simulation, right? What if... math is the coding of the simulation and throughout time we have been decoding our own simulation.
I am looking to try some design ideas using PMs for alternator design. I am a retired EE so I do not have corporate capital for simulation software.
Does anyone know of low to medium cost simulation software that might be workable for basic flux/emf/etc calculations and modeling? Or other...

Hello!
I'm trying to write a 2D program that uses simple physics. I was wondering what would be the best 2D physics engine to use in my case, and if it even matter what engine I choose. I also want my simulation to run in real time, so at least 30 fps on a decent home computer. I prefer a fast...
Hello, below is the screenshot from the book INTRODUCTION TO MODERN DIGITAL HOLOGRAPHY With MATLAB (TING-CHUNG POON, JUNG-PING LIU). This book is free to download. There is a script for Fraunhofer diffraction pattern and equation 1.40 is Fraunhofer diffraction formula in terms of Fourier...
Hello all,
I am a new member of this forum,
I would like to know where can i find the detailed tutorial of magneto static simulation of C-core. I am in the middle of one project and for further move I need the magneto static simulation of C-core. The image is attached.
Hello Physics Forums! After almost a year of haggling and research, I think I have successfully made a engine simulation spreadsheet! I have simulated the Nissan KA24DE Engine with two different cam profiles:
As far as I'm concerned, there is still a lot of work to be done...
I am using Ansys 18.2 Maxwell 2D to analyze a transformer by using transient and magnetostatic solvers. Normally the analyses were completed correctly and took time like a half an our . But right now the simulations are comleted suddenly(in few seccond) and there is no error no result and no...

I have tried to simulate the Vickers hardness on a substrate with a coating on it. I am really struggling to get it to work as the deformation is far too big. I have added the pictures of my model. Is there anyone that can help me with this?
Hi, anyone using COMSOL?
I'm new to this program and I'm trying to get a plot of the pressure distribution on a cut-plane of a cube. I have applied a boundary load of 4 MPa to the upper surface of the cube and fixed constraint to the bottom surface of the cube. Now, as a check, when plotting...
Hello everybody!
For my water in nanoscaled-pores simulations with SPH I need a value for the characteristic velocity.
My planned approach is to estimate this value by attaining the propagation speed of a diffusion wave.
But I have problems with understanding this process since I find some...
I am making a physics simulator and this problem is tricky. You have two freely moving objects with known masses and velocities in a frictionless environment. The first object is a ball and the second is a pipe. They are moving toward each other. I need to know what formulas are used to simulate...
I was thinking about Newton's Cradle the other day, and I wondered how those collisions actually look like in detail. Which then got me thinking that my understanding of even a basic elastic collision of two macroscopic objects is weak to say the least.
Simplified, the two objects could be two...
I need to simulate the Friedman equations under different conditions of flat space. Can someone please tell me a good package in MATLAB, Mathematica or stand alone. I am most well versed in MATLAB but have coded in Mathematica before.
I am trying to simulate concrete material under three-point bending in Ansys Workbench 16.0. The concrete beam (unnotched) will be under displacement load at the center while as the both ends will be fixed. The design geometry is simple which I have already completed. I ran the simulation using...
I am doing the dynamic process of a water droplet impinging onto a wax substrate in COMSOL, using the Phase Field method for tracking the free surface. I am able to do the simulation for Static Contact Angle(SCA) i.e i am imposing a fixed contact angle throughout the time step in wetted wall...
Hello! I am implementing the three body restricted problem numerically (2 of them are massive and the 3rd one is not affecting them, so it is just moving in the potential created by them). I implemented it and if I put the 3rd one close to one of the big ones it moves in circles around it, while...
I just have a simple question to ask. I'm simulating an instrumentation amplifier and then testing it practically. When I simulate it, my gain is 6, but when I test it, I get a gain of 5.54. I'm just wondering what is causing the slight drop in gain in the practical results?

I'm doing a bit of material science research at my university. I'm running molecular dynamics simulation programs like Lammps and Amber as part of it, and I'm pretty new to the whole thing (just like I'm pretty new to this forum). I'd like to ask, has anyone here used Amber to find their...
Hello,
I've been asked to talk about a time where I have used quantitative analysis.
I once used simulation of the solar system to find out more about things like close approaches, and Gladmans criteria
I was wondering if simulation is considered a quantitative method of analysis and if the...
It seems like every argument in favor of the Simulation Hypothesis revolves around the strangeness of Quantum Mechanics. So can the Simulation Interpretation be just as valid of an interpretation as Copenhagen or Many Worlds? If not why not?

Dear all,

I have been working on implementing a solar system system simulator in C++ - but am getting incorrect results on the order of 10^10 km, and it seems that the planets are moving directly away from the sun. I suspect that there is a mistake in the integrator (Velocity Verlet) that I have posted...
I have come across an interesting simulation of hyperbolic space. I can't totally wrap my hand around it, though. But I am interested in technical part of it. As far as I see no object in the space would get curved when you are moving. The visual deformation is the result of bent light reached...
