Equivalent circuit for a battery.

AI Thread Summary
An engineer is modeling a lithium battery using a Thevenin equivalent circuit, obtaining an open-circuit voltage (VOC) of 3.7V and a voltage drop to 3.2V when a 0.5 Ohm resistor is connected. The discussion focuses on deriving the internal resistance of the battery and understanding the circuit parameters, specifically the Thevenin voltage and resistance. Participants clarify that the circuit parameters refer to these component values. After some time, one participant successfully solves the problem and shares their findings regarding the internal resistance. The conversation emphasizes the importance of understanding the equivalent circuit and its parameters in battery modeling.

Homework Statement

An engineer is trying to model a lithium battery with a thevenin equivalent circuit. She first connects a voltmeter across the battery and gets a reading of 3.7V. She then connects 0.5 Ohms resistor across the battery terminals. The reading now drops to 3.2V. Draw the equivalent circuit for the battery and work out the circuit parameters.

Homework Equations

I understand how to derive the equivalent circuit but i do not understand what circuit parameters represent

The Attempt at a Solution

VOC=3.7V
R=? I do not know how to derive the internal resistance of the battery also

Now, i don't understand what the circuit parameters mean. What are they asking for?[/B]

o_OIn Relevant equations above you stated that you knew how to derive the equivalent circuit.
Now, i don't understand what the circuit parameters mean. What are they asking for?
In this case they are looking for the component values for the Thevenin equivalent circuit (Thevenin voltage and Thevenin resistance).

Show us what you know!

Post the equivalent circuit of the battery and 0.5 Ohm load resistor.

Haha! Yes! i solved it after 2 hours haha! thanks guys

What did you get for the internal resistance?

Kindly see the attached pdf. My attempt to solve it, is in it. I'm wondering if my solution is right. My idea is this: At any point of time, the ball may be assumed to be at an incline which is at an angle of θ(kindly see both the pics in the pdf file). The value of θ will continuously change and so will the value of friction. I'm not able to figure out, why my solution is wrong, if it is wrong .
Thread 'Voltmeter readings for this circuit with switches'
TL;DR Summary: I would like to know the voltmeter readings on the two resistors separately in the picture in the following cases , When one of the keys is closed When both of them are opened (Knowing that the battery has negligible internal resistance) My thoughts for the first case , one of them must be 12 volt while the other is 0 The second case we'll I think both voltmeter readings should be 12 volt since they are both parallel to the battery and they involve the key within what the...
