They are exquisitely made and thus quite expensive, and I haven't found one yet for a price
that suits me . But one day I will probably own one.

My uncle, Lindely Bothwell had a about 80 early cars collection on his orange grove ranch in the San Fernando Valley kept in about 5 barns. Sure wish I had photos from my visits

Extremely cool, wow!
I am a fan of early cars, I think they can be beautiful and that's why I started collecting model cars (cars mostly from the years 1900 - 1970 (ca)).

Another batch of photos using the 55mm micro nikkor. For some reason, my camera's light metering doesn't work properly with this 45 year old lens so getting good exposures with this lens is a bit tricky. But having direct sun helps a lot:

The optical quality of this lens is quite high- here's a 200% crop of a bilobed stigma and pollen of a dandelion:

Lastly, with apologies to @berkeman, I saw this thing either waking up or hatching:

Probably something like waking up.
If it had hatched (exited out of a pupae) it would have left the pupal exoskeleton behind. Also the wings usually have to get inflated by blood pressure after leaving the pupal case.

It looks like its butt is stuck down and holding it up off its feet in the first two or three photos.
It may have been laying eggs.

The round things between the abdomen and wings are the halteres. They are modified wings that sense wind conditions and regulate flying.

… y’know, there’s days where I swear the distribution center is deliberately messing with us.

A whole plastic tote, just for this. Why couldn’t you put it in another box? There’s three other boxes that had more than enough room. 😑

Another walk in the woods with my macro lens:

DSC_2909.JPG

This dude was super chill, let me get right up close with the lens fully extended, maybe 2 inches away from contact. You can see a sliver of the woods and mostly my lens in the eye reflection.

When I accidentally bumped the web of this spider, it gave literal meaning to the phrase "pulling s*** out of your a**":

Montage.jpg

When it was done, it scuttled off and I got a nice shot of its underbelly:

Untitled.jpg

Then I passed by some spittlebug nymphs, the bug is the light grey blob clinging to the leaf:

And lastly, some flowers. I call this photo "Georgia O'Keefe was Half-Right":

Might as well post some pictures from the place where Mookie hangs out. This is the former "back shop" of the Southern Railway (now Norfolk Southern) in Spencer NC, now used by the North Carolina Transportation Museum for exhibits and hosting events like the model-train show that I visited on Sunday.

The NCTM has more than trains. Here's an electric car from 1918. Instead of a steering wheel, it has a steering lever. Two of them, in fact. One in the usual place, and one for the backseat driver.

Macro in the park

I had fun the other day in the park...
...first I unexpectedly happened to see a dragonfly (or damselfly?) sitting on a flower:

1964m2.jpg

1965m2.jpg

(shot with Konica 50mm f/1.7)

I think they are very cool and beautiful insects.

Later I fetched one of my macro lenses and went back to the park.
I didn't find any dragonfly/damselfly, but I found two flies...

Common green bottle fly

...sitting on a leaf:

2020m2.jpg

2051m2.jpg

Calliphora vicina

...sitting on a tree trunk:

2125m2.jpg

On a crop of the image there is a hint of the indivual ommatidia/photoreceptor units of the eye:

Really nice shots @DennisN!
Insect eye ommatidia (eye units) are really cool things.

Dragonflies hold their wings out perpendicular to their body axis, so probably a damselfly.
Local areas often have websites (wildlife, extension service, researchers, hobbyists) with pictures of local species for identification.

A damselflies in oregon returned this and other sites.
Same goes for birds, amphibians, reptiles, bees, etc.

Having photos makes identification easier and more accurate.
